  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I was PM'd on another forum to come over and answer a few questions about the Genesis.

My father works for Hyundai and Kia and he helped work on the Genesis model. I would be happy to answer questions about the car (obviously not everything though as some stuff is still under wraps).

I'll try my best to answer everything :)

why doesn't the trunk open when you push the button?
It just unlocks it, but it doesn't come up?

How do you trick the DVD to play while the vehicle is in motion?

Thanks

:welcome: Cho and thanks for joining. Many loyal Genesis fans on here with many, many questions. [as you can see already] Some folks have "hard" questions on how stuff works, etc., while others are just curious why some things work the way they do [the design thinking], or are missing altogether. We are curious if the missing stuff was just not thought of [unlikely] or was left off because of time constraints of the product launch. If stuff is missing because there was not enough time, when might we see it. Would it be held until the "next model year", or perhaps be released as a TSB. Especially the software related stuff. For example:
1. Ability to display .jpg files in addition to MP3 and WMA
2. Ability to "backup" data in phone and NAVI address books
3. Will there be a "user section" on the 40GB hard disc?
4. Why does the 3.8 not have a trunk liner?

As you browse around here you will see many wants/needs on user wish lists. We appreciate your willingness to try and shed some light on the mystery issues.

Maybe pass on a few flaws:

have them come up with something that prevents water from dripping in the trunk when you open the trunk lid.

Also pass another thing on: If this is the biggest flaw we could find they designed a really good car!

A top secret code to temporarily completely disable the Electronic Stability Control? Other than that...Tell your dad THANK YOU for a wonderful machine!

Welcome to the forum!!!

Welcome aboard, ps2cho! Thank you for signing up! And thank your father for helping to bring us the Genesis! :)

Q#1 Why no random shuffle play for iPod in the tech package?

Q#2 How much money did engineers really save eliminating the cooled passenger seat in the US version?

Q#3 What was the competitive benchmark in setting the firmness of the suspension?

Q#4 Why does the car need such a large hard-drive if it does not store any music content?

As much as I would want to answer most of the questions above -- my father worked on the actual modeling of the car itself so electrical questions are outside my knowledge and were done abroad in Korea.

As for the question above about the suspension -- They have brought into the studio a vast array of cars to set the "benchmark" for the suspension. I have personally seen FX-45's and Elise's being studied for their suspension uses. (Actually got to take the Elise out for a spin one day :) ) They aim to set the quality to above the Mercedes and BMW E and 5 series classes, respectively.

The car is very eclectic!

Are you sure you're suppose to share what your dad does at the company? My friend used to design mirrors and doors for Honda and GM and he wasn't suppose to tell me anything on what he does there.

Press and hold the trunk button on your key fob for 1-2 seconds. It should pop open.

My father didn't work on the Genesis. But if you notice my screen name, I am related to someone who did.

- The competitive bench mark for the car was the 5 series BMW.
- Navigation is not able to legally display movies, while driving. Some cars have hacks for this though.
- truck may not rise up due to the weight of the materials in the trunk lid.

how's that for a start?

Welcome aboard, Krafcik. Thank you for signing up... What's your relation to John Krafcik?

With regards to suspension... I would never have imagined they would learn much from a Lotus to apply to a 4-door sedan.

Was it ever considered to simplify the design and just offer one suspension and transmission for both V6 and V8?

As to styling was this a global design team working on various components simultanously worldwide?

I appreciate the low drag coeffficient and relatively low weight of my Genesis as features that help deliver on handling and high MPG.
- Are there still opportunities to improve in these areas either through mods or next generation?
- Does the Genesis have the lowest Cd in its class or who does it better?
