If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. I've searched to see if anyone had this problem, but didn't see any.

Stopped for gas today.

Have the 3.6 with tech package.

No radio. Says station not authorized. This is XM, but also no FM or AM stations work either. All the other functions are fine. Is there a reset for the radio? If not going in the shop tomorrow.

I assume your XM was working previously? How long have you had the car? Did you competely turn off the car and try the AM and FM again?

I had the same thing happen to me about three weeks after I picked up the car..... I was driving....... then I stopped to pick someone up.... and when I restarted the engine the radio was not working......... I drove for the next 1/2 hour with no radio........ and drove straight to the dealer........ I parked the car in the service bay....... turned it off and went to get the service manager....... He got in the car .... turned it on..... and WALLA.... the radio was working........ He said sometimes there can be a "static charge " buildup which can cause the radio to turn off......... I have never heard of this before.... but it has been fine ever since.........

I've only had this happen 1x in 9,000 miles. Somewhere in this forum you will find this answer.... Turn off the car... wait about 5 minutes for the DIS to REALLY shut down.... fire it back up. Worked for me.

Who knows. Maybe Microsoft at the guts :) (not true) and needs to be rebooted once in awhile.

Bought it in February, and yes had XM and functionality previously.

But here is the update. Left car off for about 4 hours, went out started and the radios (XM, FM, AM) are working fine? I'm very confused.

HM, static charge. That's pretty bizarre. But okay, I just posted that after about 4 hours it worked again. I'm going to keep an eye on this because I personally think this is weird.

Thanks for your post.

Don't believe the static charge explanation. Your Tech system is a computer with some very new and complex software. It has bugs and has to be rebooted occasionally. Things will probably get better over time as they improve the software and apply patches to your Tech System.

This has happened to me several times and I've FINALLY figured out how to "fix" it.

Do this - you'll notice that when you turn your car off the radio is still receiving power. You can tell by putting your ear close to the radio (after turning off the car) and you'll hear a dim humming noise emanating from the radio. This lasts for approximately 3 minutes after which the blue light in the CD slot flashes once, then the humming stops.

At this point turn your car back on and VOILA, the radio will be working again.

This obviously isn't a fix, but I'll live with this solution rather than having someone rip out my radio and replace it. It's only a 3 minute period.

Yes, I agree, I can live with this fix. I also believe the other poster is right that after they apply patches hopefully this will go away.

This is the only problem (knock on wood) and other than that this the car is just wonderful.

Thanks everyone for your assistance.

Well, this thread must be some kind of a "voodoo" thread. I've got 8000 miles on my Genesis, and today, for the first time, I had this problem. First, I drove downtown for my morning "Cafe Mocha" fix. When I got back in the car, and started it up, NO RADIO. no AM/FM/XM/DISC, etc. Everything normal on the screen, but no sound. I tried the above mentioned "fix" and it did not work.
(I knew it would come back because others in this thread said it would). I then went for groceries, and when I got back to the car, I unlocked the car using the key fob button (vice touching the door handle button like I normally do). Started car, and voila, the radio was working again.

What really worried me was "what would happen if I got a phone call when the radio (read; speakers) was not working? I have Bluetooth. (I don't want to find out).

Ain't these modern electronic things great> ;):(:confused::rolleyes:

Update: I did not completly read the above post, and did not wait the three minutes when I was firs trying to correct the problem. When I went for groceries, yes, it was longer than three minutes. I'll try it again if it ever happens again.

I am not sure, but I think that most of the interconnections (excluding speakers) within the Genesis are all Fiber Optic. This is really state of the art stuff. I think Mark nailed it. There is most likely some unique condition that the software is not dealing with properly. I would not be surprised at all that some update will not be available at some point.

It happened to me 2 or 3 times in the first couple of months I had the Genesis but I noticed it hasn't happened since I let the free three-month XM trial expire.

It may be a coincidence but I thought it might be worth mentioning.

I think there is some technical problem with the receiving unit. You should go to the dealer.

I also experienced the same paralysis of my electronics...no navigation, no USB, no XM, no AM/FM, etc., but saw that the screen was locked on the phone application. I used the screen's keypad to call dial and call my home, and that successful call seemed to free up the other electronic functions. Everything worked after that. Give it a try.
