  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I was playing around with the Lexicon system (tech) today and noticed a distinct rattle in the rear deck when a certain type of bass note would hit. The volume wasn't excessive (10-12) and the music wasn't ridiculous, but the rattle was definitely there. I was parked and might not have heard it had I been driving, but obviously there should not be any rattles in a car that cost this much, even if it was a great value. So i poked around for 30 mins making sure nothing was loose in the trunk, couldn't find anything. I was about to give up and take it to the dealer when I decided to try raising the rear shade, which had been down.

bingo, when the shade was up there was no rattle at all. shade down, rattle.

at least i found out what it was, that's it's not something loose inside some panels i'll never be able to get to. i still don't think it should rattle but can probably live with it since it only happens when the bass really booms and having the shade up is no big deal.

anybody else have this happen to them?

I will try to duplicate the conditions you have described to determine if I have the same noise. previous to your post, I have not heard any rattle but the rear shade is usually in the up position.

Hi I also have the same problem with some music and I did the same thing with the rear shade, I also notice if you open the trunk and push the rear brake light from the bottom it will go away I think this is a patting issue. I'm going to take it to the dealer so they can fix this. meanwhile I put some small piece of foam pushing the rear brake light.

If this turns out to be an issue that dealerships need to look into, please let me know so that I can move this discussion into the appropriate area..

Thank you...

went to the dealer today for this problem and it seem to be that when I had the window tinted they pulled out the small cover behind the rear shade to installed the tint and left one of the clips loose, and that was causing the vibration, that's why when I was pushing on the rear brake light from inside of the trunk the vibration went away.

i'll have to try this, my rattle isn't as bad now as when i first brought the car home, but it's still there a little. i don't think my dealer would even be able to help, it's going to be up to me on this one. maybe i'll play with the cover you mentioned... thanks!

Hi all. New to the Genesis family. I have this problem. Just brought home a new 2012 3.8 fully loaded with all packages. There is definitely a vibration either from the deck or the sunshade. Has anyone identified a fix for this issue? Somewhere on here I read about removing the rear deck and insulating/padding it better. Will that help with the shade vibration problem or are they unrelated problems? It's the only thing about the car that disappoints me. Otherwise, I love this car!!!
