  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Well for me i came from a 400hp that got better gas mpg and i was looking for something similar. Your comment may hold true for people who have an unlimited fuel allowance. However people who by hyundais do so for value. Im sure you comment would change if you were getting 8 mpg. For me the line in the sand is 14 mpg. I knew id take a hit going to a v8 and am ok with current mpg.check the projections for gas prices if we keep our cars for 10 years is insane.

Time will tell

Ppp

What "400 HP" gives you better mileage than the R-spec? Considering its FI system and max overdriven transmission I'd be hard pressed to think of another gas-engined vehicle that could beat it.

And yes, you are mostly correct about Hyundai value but value comes in many forms. For me it was the consistent high marks given by true vehicle reviewers + price + amenities. I had, at the time, a Santa Fe that was getting marginally better mileage than the R-spec but it wasn't nearly as much fun to drive. The difference in 3-5 mpg is insignificant to me. The difference between 20 and 8 mpg would be which is why I don't drive my '67 El Camino with the big block around town. :D

my 5.0 non-R has 5434 miles over 231.2 gallon of Shell 91 v-power (~23.5mpg) 75/25 hiway:local pretty easy on the gas 90% of the time. (10% to the floor)
Synthetic oil is used since 1600.

- Car/engine: 2009 4.6 Tech

Last tank:
- Fuel octane used: 93
- Miles type: 75% Hwy (75-80mph), 25% City commute
- Driving style: Sporting on occasion
- Car reported MPG: 21.5

Normally:
- Fuel octane used: 93 or 87 depending on my mood
- Miles type: 100% City commute
- Driving style: Sporting on occasion
- Car reported MPG: 18.9 to 19.6

Tires are sticky Michelin Pilot Super Sports. The Dunlop SP Sport Signatures that were on the car when I bought it did ~2 mpg better city and ~3 mpg better highway... but they were noisy and had wicked tire pull. Very happy with the PSS!

I drive a 2009 3.8 with the premium package.
Recently I drove about 490 on a tank which consisted about 95% highway averaging about 75-80 mph. Works out to be about 26-27 mpg. I'm happy with this but...

My daily commute is about 7 miles each way of heavy suburban 25 and 35 mph zones and about 12 street lights to get caught at. During this daily commute my gas mileage is about 14-15 mpg. I drive average with hardly any stomping. I'm disappointed in the mileage with stop and go traffic. The car is supposed to be 18 mpg for city driving. Why is mine so much lower? Is there any way to increase this with a software update or something? I'm curious to know if I'm alone here.

2013 R-Spec with 5753 miles on it. Put in a total of 279.01 gallons of a mix of 91 Oct to 89 Oct fuel ( real gas ) average mileage 20.619 mpg over the whole range. Best Highway only miles on one tank 23.68 mpg, worst tank 17.75 mpg with lots of idle time.

My daily commute is via the Natchez Trace Parkway with a posted speed limit of 50 MPH with a few stretches of 40. I generally exceed the limit by about 5. (The federal speeding tickets are incredibly expensive.) The best I can get by the readout, which is about 2 mpg high, is around 25 mpg. However on the open interstate I can exceed 30 mpg running between 70 & 75. Kinda seems backward to me, but that's the way it is. It would seem the Genny is geared somewhat on the tall side. I'm still looking for some improvement since I am under 3000 miles on the car.

Here's my first fill-up since reading this thread, I pretty much always fill-up at the same Shell station here. I let it run until the pump shut-off kicks in, doesn't top off to the nearest dollar . I always reset my Trip B before exiting the gas station (OCD).

- Car/engine: 3.8 V6

- Fuel octane used: Regular 87

- Total miles till date :- 5587

- Miles driven: 291 (half tank of gas)

- Miles type: 25% city, 70% highway

- Mileage: 30.7 (miles/gallons)

- Driving style: mostly conservative

This pretty much hits my average exactly every time for my typical work commute ( I drive on crazy I-405 in LA). Not too shabby for a pretty powerful V6, I'm happy with it specially since am getting more than what's being said by Hyundai.
