If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. For those with the 5.0 V8 version what is your real world mpg?

I test drove one yesterday and the dash said 13 mpg for a car with 1,100 miles on it. Of course it could be that people are driving it real hard as I hope it gets better than that.

I'm hoping for 22-23 mpg for mixed driving and a light foot

A tester is going to be driven on shorter runs with stop and go, as well as some likely spirited driving. Getting a consistent 22-23 for mixed driving will be tough - that is probably only possible in near 100% highway driving. More likely to shoot for near 20 with a delicate foot and some highway miles.

I can live with that. My drive to work consists of mainly highway albeit slow highway drive.

I tested the 5.9 and 3.8 back to back and boy it was apples to oranges. The 3.8 felt very sluggish vs the 5.0

I have not heard one single automotive reviewer ever say that the Genesis 3.8 is "very sluggish." If you want the 5.0, go ahead and get it, but let's not delude ourselves.

Mine gets about 16 - 18 MPG driving to work (lots of traffic), low 20s in highway driving without as much traffic, and low teens if I'm feeling frisky in sport mode.

What's normal traffic like in your area? Stop-and-go driving really kills the mileage on this car, but it can get pretty good (for a V8) highway mileage.

75% highway and 25% city I average 300 miles per full tank.

I only have the "very sluggish" 3.8 RWD, and have yet to get a single tank over 20 mpg. I drive mostly highway (Austin toll roads and use ECO mode when just cruising, SPORT mode if I need to get out of dense traffic).

If you check Fuelly (real people with actual cars tracking real mileage) it seems like somewhere in the 16-18 mpg range is realistic for the 5 liter. I assume if the 3.8 is sluggish to you, you will use that V8 power, so I would expect at the lower range of the 16-18 mpg level for you ...

22-23 mpg seems completely unrealistic given the data available from other 2015 Genesis 5.0L models - not a single tank of gas got more then 21 mpg (best case) for the cars I checked on Fuelly...

I have the AWD 5.0 which is supposed to be the worst of them all if we are talking full economy. That being said, my average is 18mpg and I do not baby this car in any which way or form not to mention I am always first when the light turns green. This is combined highway city, about 2/3 highway.

16 mpg + for local driving

27 consistent mpg highway driving

Not complaining for car using 420 hp to push 4600 lbs

I'd agree with the highway driving mpg. Never actually checked in town mileage.
Bought the car for long trips at... higher cruising speeds.

Loving the hwy mileage and range compared to my previous CTS-V

Here is an example on a recent 500mi trip
(my buddy wouldn't believe me until I showed him photos and gas receipts)

Amazing how people have different experiences and/or drive differently. I too have a 3.8 RWD but I have never had a tank below 22. Best was about 26 with a lot of highway driving. Most of my tanks average 23-24 depending on traffic.

Based on my 10 tanks of fuel used so far, here is my mileage based on actual data, not the (very optimistic) trip computer (which tells me I get 23 mpg). I only use regular gas, as recommended by Hyundai.

Is your data based on the trip computer, or based on miles/gallons re-fueled?

I do use the accelerator at times, and the legal speed on the toll roads here is 75 or 80 mph, not 65 or 70 like most places in the US, and I go at or slightly (5 mph) above the speed limit usually.

Did you ever calculate the actual mileage using miles driven/gallons re-fueled? I find the trip computer to be overly optimistic (19 mpg real vs. 23 based on the computer), as it was on my previous Chrysler, VW and Audi vehicles.

I use Fuelly ( www.fuelly.com/ ) to get accurate data and compare myself to other similarly specced vehicles ... (http://www.fuelly.com/car/hyundai/genesis/2015)

I agree. The 3.8 is not 'very sluggish', merely 'sluggish'.

Hmmm... is there another way to get the car to move?

Yeah, about 50% of drivers here in Austin use the Flintstones method to accelerate, preferably when pulling out in front of you while you do 60 mph (legally).

According to Car & Driver, there are 0.9 seconds between the 3.8 and the 5.0 acceleration time from 0-60 - both these are based on actual instrumented tests, not manufacturers brochure numbers:

2015 5.0 = 5.0 seconds
2015 3.8 = 5.9 seconds

http://www.caranddriver.com/hyundai/genesis

Does that make the 5.0 "sluggish" too, or is less than a second the difference between "sluggish" and "fast"?

Nice - I know the feeling!

I'm not saying the times for the 3.8 is wrong but 0to60 . Com says it's 6.4 seconds. I agree, 3.8 isn't slow by any means and for some people mpg is more important then 1.4 seconds.

My father and myself both have 5.0's. He actually called me last night to tell me that he had taken a several hundred mile trip and was astounded the computer was showing 27.3 mpg. He wanted to know if I thought it was lying or not :-)

As for myself, I am getting 18.7 in mixed use and drive it considerably harder than he does. My V6 Infiniti M35 used to maybe get 18 so I really am happy with the Genny.
