Real World MPG Numbers?

Now that there are a few owners on here of the Genesis 3.6 V6 I am curious about some real world long term MPG figures.

The reason I ask is because I recently read the Edmunds review of the Genesis and noticed on the dash what appeared to be 16.xMPG.

Can you Genesis owners please share your MPG numbers along with your approximate City / Highway driving Percentages?

Still working the first full tank of gas. So far, 20-21mpg doing 97% city / 3% Interstate. Road trip 8/23 will test highway claims. Hoping for 33.

Most cars seem to get better gas mileage as they break in. Keep that in mind...

My first day with the car, about 80 miles driven (80% hwy) the average MPG is at 24.2 MPG. Waiting for first fill-up to see how accurate the AVG MPG display is.

I've had my 3.8V6 for nearly one week...(that's two tanks of gas for you and me)! Averaging about 22 mpg overall...probably 65/35 city/hwy driving. The window sticker numbers were interesting...18/27. I'd love to be a fly on the wall when they make them up! The Azera I traded got the same mileage...same motor...go figure!

Finished the first tank of gas: 295.4 mi on 14.573 gal....20.17MPG 97/3 city/hwy. Trip computer had been dead on. After fill up it's reading 28.0mpg, go figure.

My overall results have been mixed, too, in part due to running the engine in the driveway while I work on setting up all the DIS stuff (FM & XM presets, NAV, phone, etc.). But for a 88 mile freeway run yesterday, I reset the mpg calculator, ran 75 - 80 mph the whole way and got 26.3 mpg. Not too bad.

While I haven't measured city mileage carefully yet, it appears that I'll be in the 19 - 20 mpg range in town.

One thing I miss from my BMW is a dual mpg calculator. With two, I was able to dedicate one to overall mileage, and reset the other one as needed to measure specific runs.

20mpg in almost 100% city driving isn't too bad and neither is 26mpg on the highway. I wonder if the break in will improve those numbers.

Would be good to get a bunch of numbers together to get a real world average (even if it may be skewed a bit based on location)

My view is that every single one of you is reporting astounding figures. This car is only 10hp shy of the 335i, which weighs the same and has direct injection. I never saw north of 18.5 city in the 335i. I did see same or better on highway, but that's not my point. This is NOT a direct injection engine and is a brand new model car. BMW has had decades to perfect the 3 Series and it is just damned incredible.

Yet out of the box this Genesis doo-dad is really incredible. I can't believe I'm going to bypass BMW next year. Wow....

V8 fully loaded.... Yessir here I come. The same 5 series would be at $60,000. A loaded up E550 is north of $65,000.

Hyundai is opening a serious can of whoop ass here. Every time I climb from my Ford Edge to our Veracruz limited, I want to puke. The Ford is just a typical American POS.
9,000 miles and it squeaks, rattles, brakes bind up when cold, and it drives like I'm on 4 wooden wheels which are attached to a bamboo raft. The Veracruz is so many leagues above in every category except maybe looks, it's no comparison at all. AND my Edge gets 12.8 in the city!! Our Veracruz is AWD, the Edge is not, Veracruz has the weight of a 3rd row seat, the Edge does not, and the Veracruz is heavier and longer, and we get 14-15 city with the Hyundai!

Then we have an even quieter, more refined vehicle than our Veracruz? LOL WTF?!!!! The Genesis is a no-brainer.

Driving styles and conditions vary quite a bit. Even something like "city" can mean very different things to different people.

You made the right decision on the Edge. I get dismal MPG and I have read plenty of forums where people post the same numbers.

Every day the word "hatred" creeps a little more into my thoughts. I am seriously contemplating eating some money and getting out of the Edge and into the V8 Genesis with Tech.

I have to be fair, I got what I paid for. A $20,000 SUV/crossover. VERY hard to find anything for that price one would want to own.

But I have never in my life driven a more soul-less, boring vehicle. I cannot reiterate enough that it feels like a hollow wooden box on four wooden wheels attached by a wire axle. It just feels.... rickety... compared to the Veracruz Limited we have, or for anything short of a bicycle.

The Genesis is a hit. I really believe this is the start of the public perception changing towards Hyundai.

I'm hearing similar things quite often from the people who own luxury cars in TrueDelta's panel. The Germans are going to have a tough time in the U.S. market, at least until the economy picks up again. People don't feel like they're raking in easy money anymore, so no need to express that feeling with a fancy badge.

Similarly, people who can easily afford gas even at recent prices aren't happy with poor fuel economy. One of my members recently got rid of a 2008 G37 for this reason. Much worse MPG than his 335i on the highway.

I think it is a bit premature to declare victory in the image department. (Except with us on this forum of course!) Hope you are right though. I agree that in difficult economic times like these most people are looking for ways to show they saved a dollar instead of wasted one.

Now bragging about your fuel economy earns you points with the neighbors! Today's status symbol is turning into a hybrid car in the driveway instead of a BMW or Lexus.

On the subject of MPG I have noticed that my Genesis practically coasts along under 1,500 RPM around 50-55 mph. I think this low engine speed helps the fuel economy considerably.

Absolutely. I was wondering how tall sixth was.

The participant in my research who got rid of an Infiniti G37 blamed the short fifth gear--and lack of a sixth--for the car's poor fuel economy. Infiniti is gradually replacing the five-speed automatic with a seven-speed, and they badly need it.
