  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I was on SR130 yesterday (speed limit 80, but an otherwise interstate-like road) and I came up upon a passing-lane squatter whose speed was varying between 70-80 (dry conditions- at that particular time, anyway). This particular gray crossover driver happened to be next to a semi-truck which more-or-less matched his speed and was basically blocking the highway with about 15 cars stuck behind them (most in the passing lane, unfortunately). There's a stretch of the road where it opens up to 3 lanes and when that happened I immediately nailed it and sailed around the blockages. Once past the whole lot of them I properly moved to the non-passing lane and resumed my drive home with clear road ahead of me.

Man the V8 really wakes up in temps below 60 degrees. It's like it bares its teeth. Horrible for fuel mileage though (because of the temptation to plant the right foot).

(Okay, I know cool-weather helping performance is not limited to the V8 and is somewhat intrinsic to internal-combustion-engines, but I was just enjoying my car alright?!
;))

It scoots.
I was also on SR130 a few weeks back. Taking it easy ( about 70 with cruise on ). Gaining on a semi and would soon need to pass. A check of the mirror & saw a long line of cars coming up in the left lane. If I didn't pull out & pass right now, I'd be stuck behind that semi for a time. Pedal down & was past the truck in an instant, Looked at speedo and was at 105 and climbing fast. My 1st V8 and I love it.

Yup gotta love the cold dense air. The 3.3t motor would be even more drastic. My big turbo'd car love 50 to 40 degree weather, anything blow that I'm getting sideways in 3rd 4th or even 5th and its just way to sketch to mess around.

Yeah honestly my driving skills aren't up to snuff to go much higher on the power train (see what I did there?) than where my Genesis is. I can't imagine what the Supra would do!

lol, man too bad you aren't close, I'll take you for a ride. The supra is fun it did about 165 mph in a standing 1/3 mile with around 28 psi.

Love the Pickle Parkway. Only time to get above 85 legally.

I don't take 130 all that often, but when I do, I love that little stretch where you can blow by all the slow moving morning drivers/semis.

Unrelated side note, but I'm shopping around for a 5.0 Ultimate and jeez they're hard to find. South Point had one that was beat to hell, and I found one in Killeen that was also...beat to hell. Round Rock had one for like half a day but I think it was just a standard 5.0, not Ultimate, and it was gone before I could even go look at it. If you ever look to sell yours, drop me a line!

Will do! Just a word of caution though; I have a lot of miles on mine and will try to hold onto it until 100K, so it may not be desirable as a used car at that point. That being said, it does look and drive great and looks like it has half the miles it does (62K). No door dings and no "shiny" leather. I still look at it longingly when I walk away. It's going to be a very bitter parting a couple of years from now.

i had to recently change a turn a signal bulb and has to take out the air box and noticed a air duct going into the air box.. Do the K@N filters make a difference?

Not sure about the K&N; some say they do. The last car I modified with an intake (Frankencar), exhaust (Magnaflow), and headers (Hotshot) was my 2003 Altima. Sure it was fast (for the era), but I didn't like the trade-offs (noise in particular). It was then that I came to the conclusion that every change to a vehicle presents a compromise. Some are acceptable, others are subjectively questionable. The engineers who design a car are constantly tweaking those levers for the optimum balance for the car's target market, and usually they do a pretty good job.
Now that I have a gray hair or two, I like speed, but I'm less tolerant of NVH. Unless it's a sports car, give me the stealth luxocruiser. Like Jaguar's old advertising campaign: "Swift, Silent, Strong." That's essentially what I want.

I may have a gray hair or two more than you, but the 3.8 is adequate these days. I could not justify the upcharge to the V-8. Back in the day it was only about $100 for the 8 over the 6.
Not much more for the convertible either. .

Yea, I remember when you could buy a darn nice car for the cost of the upgraded audio system these days.

Gotcha. By that time, I may have gone through two cars. I wish I could keep a car til 100k miles, but I have...problems...keeping myself out of dealerships, it seems.

I have the K&N in my 3.8, difference, not too much! But i mainly got it because it's cheaper than having to replace the air filters for the life of the car.

I used to think a K&N filter was a good thing. Until I dug into some testing on them.
True, they might save you money over the long run. But the only performance gain is at WOT at max RPM's.
In addition they do not filter (particulate size) as well as a paper filter.

hahha well i have a few gray hairs myself but adding exhaust or intake i've been doing for over 20yrs lol.. There;s a member on here making parts for the Genesis such as intake, exhaust etc but i can't justify spending $800. I've messaged K&N a month ago asking if there R&D have any plans for a dual intake setup. I'm sure are intake design is the best, Sucking in outside air and being a closed filter instead of open element filter sucking in hot air and losing performance.
