In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Hey guys, I got some ANNOYING, severe rattling in my rear deck when the bass hits. I usually listen to pretty much everything, some songs do have heavy bass. I only have my bass at 5 I believe, and it rattles like crazy. It's annoying and embarrassing. And no my sub isn't blown.

I had a 13 Sonata which had the same issue and it was due to these two rods that overlapped each other under the deck, I simply placed a rag in between the rods and I loved when the bass hit from that point on. It was clear and perfect.

Now looking at the trunk lining, the clips look a bit difficult and I don't want to break anything. I'm sure I can find the source of the rattle once that liner is out. Anyone have an easy method of taking it out so I can inspect wtf is going on. I won't quit till the rattling stops. It drives me insane.

Thanks

Do you have the retractable rear window shade? I had the same issue and found out that raising the shade stopped the rattle. The next step is finding a way to stop the shade from rattling while retracted

I got the same thing after a while. Platinum_R, I actually have a video of the sound with the cover under the sub removed, that's how I confirmed it wasn't a blown sub or anything vibrating. It's actually mounted on a rock solid piece of metal so it's really just the sunshade rattling when it's down. I too haven't found a fix yet that doesn't look bad like having cloth stuffed under the shade so it doesn't retract all the way, but I'll bring it up during my dealer maintenance next week and see what they suggest.

I read some people mentioned tightening a motor but I didn't see one from inside the car with the seats removed or the trunk so I'm not sure where that is.

What I noticed fixes it for me is if I pull up the rear deck trim cover thing (above the sub and speakers), the sunshade doesn't vibrate against it so it makes no noise, but if I put everything back, it does it. So it's the top edge or those little arms of the sunshade hitting the edge of the trim part but they're too close together to shove a cloth in there without having it look bad or keep the sunshade from not closing properly..

Would it be possible to location the specific section of the shade that's making contact, and put the fuzzy side of a strip of self-adhesive velcro on it? Black in color, cheap, thin, non-abrasive, easily cut to size. Might be just the ticket?

its all about the bass the bass no treble.

sorry couldn't resist.

Theoretically, yes. Personally, I spent some time on this when I removed my back seats and even with some thick acoustic foam under the top (visible) edge of the sunshade it still did it, and it was hard to keep anything there and still allow the sun shade to move up/down. The only thing that always fixed it (temporarily) was having that speaker cover lifted up. I tried putting some foam under it to keep it higher but it wasn't enough.

This Friday I'll get my oil change and ask the dealer for suggestions. If they can't do anything maybe I'll try something else and post back if it works.

I have the same problem with my 2010, and I also have the bass setting at 5. I've tried with both the sun shade up and down, and can't get the rattling down.

If you want to look at whats under the deck you unfortunately have to remove the rear seats to remove the trunk lining entirely. There are two tabs that are held in place with push in plastic retainers that is behind the seat. There is a metal cover that also has to be removed before yo can get the trunk liner out. To remove the top clips holding the trunk cover in, pull back the trunk weather stripping up and pull the metal clip over the trunk lip. By removing these it will hang down and you might be able to see what you need. I posted pictures on here somewhere a while back.

When removing the top portion of the seat there is an Airbag sensor that has to be disconnected. It is located about 3/4 of the way up.

If anyone's interested, I took pictures when I did it:

If you wanna check the sub from the trunk, just open the trunk, carefully pull up the rubber liner thing at the top edge of the trunk opening, then pull up and away on those 3 little hooks. The part under the sub will just hang down so you can see everything. You only need to remove the back seat to get to the top of the sub.

If the sun shade is causing the rattle, it should stop when it's up (it does for me anyway), but if it's anything else, this is the quickest way to tell for sure before you remove anything difficult. For me the buzzing is really obvious when I get close to it.

My sun shade only rattles when I have it in the UP position. When I have it seated in the down position, it's quiet as a mouse. Knock on wood.

Tinted Windows, I have never moved mine from the down position. Even with the 2 JL Audio 10's in the trunk, no rattling

So I went to the dealer for an oil change and also asked about the sun shade thing. They basically had no idea. I showed them how it happens when I listen to music at a regular volume like 10 with bass not on high and they noticed the rattle is at the bottom of the sunshade but they said to really find out they'd need the car for an entire day.

I only took a half day off today and I'm surprised they didn't just go "yeah, lots of people have this issue, it's caused by X". Honestly I don't think they see many people with Genesis and Equus. While waiting I asked if I could check one out and despite the place being called "Hyundai Equus" with a giant Equus logo outside, they had 0 there, lol. The only one was on a lift, brought in by the owner.

I guess I'll have to look into it myself when I get a chance.

I don't have the top plugs you have shown in the picture. What are those for?

They're probably for the heated seats (never tested them). If you don't have rear heated seats, you should have 2 less things to unplug. :)

Just as long as you don't pull the seat off right away you'll be fine, every plug and clip so far has been in a logical, visible location so honestly it's been a joy taking the Genesis apart. I have yet to break anything or to get stuck on one bolt for a long time, that's how I know Hyundai assembled everything logically.
