  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have had a few cars that when the REAR DEFROST is activited, creates interference somewhat with AM stations. I know the systems pulls some amps, but the GENESIS rear defrost distorts both AM/FM severly. Apparently no line filter in place. Do all experience same? It is not on long- but it is significant.

Here is my experience...

Ill crank my car and FM will be scrambled and it will eventually fade in.

I have come to my own conclusion that it is my HID FOG LIGHTS that are causing this issue. When they ignite, you can watch them on the wall of my garage, the radio station scrambles and as they gradually heat up to max output the FM signal will gradually de-scramble.

Weird.

I guess the HID ballast are not insulated as well as the factory HIDs.

I get a snap noise when my HIDs come on. Then there's the static with the iPod plugged in. Now this...

The radio/amp is not insulated well imo - I've thought about adding a line filter to keep this interference down.

No issues with FM (I don't listen to AM).

I have the 4.6 tech package.

I notice the last poster as the 3.8 which is a different head unit.

Absolutely no problems with my TECH 3.8. No interference from anything on AM or FM:)

Interesting....I have no interference issues when I turn on my HID's Headlights and Fogs..... Is it possible that the HID kit you ordered is not a digital kit, but an anolog??

I have the midlevel Lexicon on the 2009 base V8. I have been experiencing poor AM reception, a whining on a lot of the AM stations. The first try was the AM antenna. Nope. Then they swapped the amp, didn't work either, they hooked it up to another head unit and that worked. I am having the entire unit changed in the car. The dealer said this was a special order part and they did not have it in stock. They also indicated the entire component cost $4000. Thankfully this is under warranty.

Very well could be...Im not sure! Heck...the kit was $49 if that tells you anything...HA:p

I hear ya. I've installed an analog HID kit years ago and it created all sorts of problems. Flickering headlight, alternator noise, and so on. Pretty much all HID kits now days are digital, but for $50, you may have bought an analog kit. Who knows:confused:

I have a stock 09 3.6 premium tech and have had this issue since day one (march 09). I posted about it here or on another forum once and never really got any feedback. In Seattle, it's so bad that once an FM station switches to HD, I can turn on my rear defrosters and count 1, 2, 3, before the HD signal cut's out. There is a noticeable drop in standard am/fm reception with the thing on too. Some of my stations wont even come in with the rear defroster on.

The dealer should replace the antenn roof unit and check all the grounding of the AMP, Tuner, Antenna leads. No excuse for this type of problem, thets why they teach this stuff in engineering school so you do it right. And business school teaches, fix it, don't push the customer off. If you do you most likely will loose them.

The roof antenna is for XM, and I'm pretty sure the am/fm antenna is built in to the rear window.

Is your vehicle tinted? Some tints have been interfering with radios/nav/tire pressure sensors, etc. Llumar started making a film to combat this, which is what we pretty much use solely now.

Only film to cause problems with electronics in vehicles is a metallics film. Dyed films suck, carbon films are great, and ceramic films are best (most expensive) and metallics is great, but can/may cause problems.
