  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Rear End Whining or Roaring Sound

2012 to 2016 Genesis Sedans
My 2012 has a rear whining sound when I let off the accelerator form about 46 mph down to 35 mph.

I'm curious does anybody else have this problem. Most owners don't realize this because they listen to the radio or talking on the Cell phone. I drove Sedans most model years all the way to 2016 and could hear this roaring whining sound. I'd appreciate some feed back. Hyundai put 3 rear ends and a new drive shaft in my car and it's still making the same sound. Either the gears aren't mfg. properly or it possibly could be a assembly problem or just maybe a Engineering screw up that Hyundai doesn't want anybody to find out about!

Thanks
Randal

I just bought a 2016 3.8 sedan and notice the same thing. I didn't notice at first, but around 500 miles or so on, I began to notice it. I'm not sure if it's the differential or something else, but does sound like gear whine. On mine the noise occurs when decelerating from about 43mph to 37mph with it loudest right around 40. I don't hear any noise when accelerating or holding an even throttle, just when decelerating. I'll try test driving another Genesis next time I'm in for service to see if I hear it in another car as well. Sounds like you tried that though. I'll post if I ever find a solution.

Thanks for the reply. Driving yesterday I've always assumed it was the rear end. Even Hyundai did even replacing 3 rear ends. However, yesterday I found the whine comes and starts about mid way in the cockpit. I let my Son drive me around slid the seat back and it sounds like the whine starts about Mid-Way in the Transmission area. I actually put my ear down on the side of the console and heard the whine.

It's going back again this week.

Hyundai service Tech who drove in from Tampa after spending a whole day on my car. Told me this was a sound all Genesis make. Meaning there's either a Design Flaw in the Tranny, or the Rear end. They want say just that it's a Characteristic sound which is Unacceptable.

When I told them I bought a Luxury Class Car because this was the way it was advertised. Then mentioned Luxury Class Cars don't make this sound and then said if I'd had known before hand I could have bought a old truck to get the sound they didn't have anything else to say.
