  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Now that air conditioning season is here, I wonder how many Genesis owners are still blowing hot air out of the rear seat heater unit? Now is a good time to check that out. '-)

Funny when you forget to switch it from hot to cold on the rear controls and you feel heat coming from the back. Happens to me quite a bit because this NC weather flip flops so much. Changed mine back to cold earlier last week.

Well, by golly, you do need to flip it.
Had not picked up on that feature.
Thanks

I find that every now and then I will feel heat coming from the console against my leg. When I reach back, I find that the rear heat controls are set to high heat and high fan. this happens when I have not had any rear passengers in a long time. the only thing I can think of is I bump/rub a grocery bag against the controls when removing the bags and they get set to full heat. Now I just check them out of habit whenever I start the car up.

I'm sure many folks are not aware that the rear unit is a separate zone and can pump out the opposite setting (heat or AC) vs. the front system. Folks who carry kids in the back should always check these settings.

this must be on newer models.

The only problem I can foresee and it works in both scenarios for hot/cold is that the plumbing will need to warm up/cool down before flow can be desired temperature.

My 09 has it. I never leave it turned on because I will always forget what it's doing.

If you have a child in the rear seat that isn't old enough to adjust the settings and the rear control wheel is set to the wrong setting, there doesn't seem to be a way for the driver to change the setting without going to the rear and physically turning the wheel. Wish there was a way front passengers can control the rear temperature

You can just reach back there without even getting out of the seat?

You don't seem to understand that your car HVAC is capable of blowing cold air in the front and hot air in the back AT THE SAME TIME.

Never even looked back there to see the controls, wow LOL.

I absolutely understand it.

I have owned several trucks with rear climate controls. The example I was trying to give was that in extreme temperatures, winter for example, I have experienced the rear heat would take longer to get warm because of the poor plumbing and insulation by the manufacturer. Best example would be my old 04 Trailblazer. Damned upper vents were plumbed through the roof of the car and almost never blew out warm air because the surface exposure of the roof would pull the heat right out before it could get to the vent.

I've decided to tape the rear seat heat/AC control to AC position. Seems like it always wanders to the heat position whether I have changed it or not. I was wondering if it was a defect? Again, I just taped the control into the AC position for right now. Thanks for the note Ernie. Dan here.
