  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I recently installed the Genny wings on the front and back of my 2012 Genny. Last week I was driving on a six lane highway (I was in the middle lane of my three southbound lanes).

I noticed a supercab pick up truck come up quickly on my left. As soon as it was next to me, it slowed to my speed and three faces were pressed up against the side windows looking at my car. Then they moved ahead of me and looked back at the front and then slowed to look at the rear and then then changed lanes to the right side of me (this time four faces looking at my car). They did the same move ahead to look at the front and then the back.....then back to the front. The driver really looked over the front end and then finally smiled and threw his arms up in the air...in a 'I give up' sorta way.

It seems to 'turn heads' all the time, but this was above and beyond the norm, hence....my desire to share the story.

Hyundai should be paying us! Putting the 'correct' badges on the car gets more attention and sells more cars!

Funny. Just bought an 09 Genesis sedan. I came fully badged. Guy came to my house to buy my Honda. Looks at the Genny and says to paraphrase him "man, I love your Bentley."

True story. I know it's a Hyundai and I am not out to deceive anybody. Actually we spoke about the Genny. he is now considering one for his wife!! Hyundai should be thanking us for the rebadging!!

I've owned my Genny for 2 1/2 years and just a couple of weeks ago someone asked me if it was a Bently. First time!

I'll have to dig one of my post but when I first saw Genesis rebadged, I HAD to think of it as Bentley no joke. I was on my Escalade when the car passed by and even though I didn't look too much like that cab truck driver, it made me glimpse quite a bit and guess the brand.

I was up on Brentwood, TN last week taking a customer out to dinner. After a few rounds and steak at Stoney River we decided to carpool to a place for a couple extra drinks to finish the conversation. He gets in the back as my engineer grabbed the front and he was like, wow is this a bentley? Not sure if he was kidding or serious as he took back a few glen velvets at dinner but it was kinda cool.

All of you guys are relative newbies. Genesis with wings has been confused by casual observers with a Bentley ever since 2009. There are quite a few other threads on this subject.

One of my favorite Bentley moments was when in 2009 when I pulled up alongside a brand new (temporary tags) Bentley Continental Flying Spur at a traffic stop. After the light turned green I pulled ahead so the Bentley could see my wings. As we stopped at the next light, I looked over at the driver, and I don't think the owner of the $200K Bentley was amused.

I get the "Bentley" comment regularly myself. It's quite humurous actually. Especially when I see the look on their faces when I exclaim it's a Hyundai.

Peoples perceptions of the car are increasing as owners such as ourselves are willing to take the time to share our experiences of the car. I enjoy meeting new car friends from the rebadging.

Hyundai should be paying us! Putting the 'correct' badges on the car gets more attention and sells more cars!

That would be great! But better yet, Hyundai should be sending the US cars over with the darn badges on in the first place. I still don't understand this. Does Lexus or Infiniti send their cars over with Toyota or Nissan badges on them? Uh..I think not. Get a clue Hyundai. ;)

Badges! We don't need no stinking badges!

I have a quick question about badges that maybe one of you can answer. I just picked up a new r-spec a couple weeks ago that was rebadged by the dealer with the wings. I want to remove the hood and trunk badges entirely, but am unsure if they are just taped on or there are any type of holes underneath them. I don't want to remove them if there will be holes to fill. Does anyone know?

No holes on the hood, it's stuck on by tape, but the trunk has 2 holes and tape. You'd need to have the trunk filled in by a body shop.

Thanks for the quick reply. I guess the trunk stays on for now...

Were you intending to put back the Hyundai flying "H" on the trunk?
They are available on ebay as well as many members garages I would imagine :)

Oooohhh Noooo... I'm not a big fan of badging, but the wing isn't that bad! Now if it was the H on it, I'd already have an appt at the body shop :D

Similar experience I had last weekend when I was driving with my wife in my rebadged 2011 V8 (I have replaced all exteriors lazy H's, including the ones on the rims). I had this Accord zipping around me, with the driver and his passenger checking my car out while we were on the highway. One thing I love about the rebadging: Makes the car even more eye catching and people want to know what it is.

For what it's worth......as I type my R-Spec is in a body shop. it's the Platinum color and I'm having the painted portion of the grill painted black leaving the chrome part as is. I also peeled of the Genesis 5.0 and R-Spec badges on the trunk and am having the body shop fill the two holes filled where the "H" is removed, and the chrome strip on the trunk lid painted to match the car. That means the entire trunk lid has to be painted for a proper match. Hope to get it back tomorrow. Will post some pictures. Nothing against Hyundai, did the same to a Mercedes and BMW I recently owned. The cleaner the better.

I am guessing that you also require your girlfriend/wife to be waxed for that clean look.

Where did you get the re-badge kit and what are the part numbers?

HELP!

I need instructions for rebadging the steering wheel on my 2012 Genesis sedan. I bought the badge, but am unsure how to install it. I know it fastens over the existing logo, but it came with a separate glue "piece" that matches the size of the badge, as well as the regular sticky tape on the back of the badge. I'd appreciate detailed instructions on how to go about this.

I already screwed up on doing the trunk lid. I tried to follow the video instructions, but it did not work the way shown on the video. I got the H emblem off using 40 lb test fishing line, but all of the adhesive backing stayed on the car. Even copious amounts of Goo Gone and surface cleaner had no real effect. I finally resorted to using a razor blade to slice it off and wound up leaving scratches in the paint. Rats!

Thanks,
Dandydon

Ouch on the trunk lid...if the scratches are not too deep you may be able to hide them with some sort of scratch repair stuff like you see on infomercials....Mine left a significant amount of tape on the car when I took it off, but I patiently rubbed it off with my finger and some Goo gone and left no scratches. The Goo Gone really doesn't dissolve it, it just makes it softer. It is really amazing how tough the 3M badge adhesive really is!

For the steering wheel, do not use the extra piece of 3M tape....not sure what it is in there for, maybe as a spare. Just clean the existing H well with alcohol and peel the backing from the emblem and stick it on over the H.
