If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Does anyone know of an easy way to use the Genesis remote start feature without paying a yearly fee? I’d appreciate it if you can help.

I just installed the 12 volt solutions over the weekend.

How to remove the panels

the video shows 2 different panels to remove.
After that I found a cross bar that needed to be removed that I believe is the Knee airbag.
I did not disconnect the wires from that cross bar, I just set it too the right.

After doing that I was able to get to the magic black box above the gas pedal.

I wish I had hands of a 10 year old, it would have helped.

What I like about this setup compared to the Genesis App
7 Secs from the time I tell it to start and the car is started.

the Key Fob does the same - 7 seconds to start.

you don't get all the features like setting the temp.

The GPS works as well to pin point where the car is located.

I thought it did have the ability to set the temperature… I reached out to customer support to confirm.

The only thing I see in the App
Start Car
Stop Car
Lock Doors
Unlock doors
A timer for how long the car has been running since started
Outside Temp
icon to show if doors are locked
Signal strength of the 5g for the car
Battery meter for the car

then a swipe up I an see
map of where car is located
help button

There is no way to set temp so it just goes from the previous temp setting of the car
My car is pretty much set to Auto all the time and has some temp that is pretty close to what I like.

Press and hold START and you get another menu to set up your presets.

Are you talking about the 12 volt solutions app or the Genesis App?
I don't use the Genesis app anymore...waste of time since the clock is ticking on that death

Press and hold does nothing on the 12 volt app for me.

Just confirmed with 12Volt Solutions that there is no way to set temp… so always shut the AC or heat when I left the car, I’ll test it today at see if it starts with the previous trip setting if left on. BTW, do any of you have concerns about the Genesis factory warranty? Genesis Consumer Support told me in no uncertain terms that if any 3rd party part was installed it would void the factory warranty!
I’ve got a deposit on a new Volvo S60 Recharge being delivered at the end of October… just about impossible to find any electric car, just got lucky with timing on this.

...
They can't legally do that. They can only deny any warranty claims for a failure that they can reasonably show as likely to have been caused by the third party module or its installation.

Glad you said “legally”… given what Genesis has put in writing about voiding the warranty, I’m not willing to take a chance even though I’d most likely prevail in court due to Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act etc… The responses from Genesis Consumer affairs about “it’s in the terms and conditions..,” and their blatant refusal to even consider assisting loyal customers is reprehensible. I’m sorry to give up my ‘18 Sport, but they give me no choice. Should they offer a solution before my Volvo is delivered, we’ll see.

oops...would like to delete but this post, but can't figure out how...

Are there any options available for remote start from your phone other than the cancelled genesis connected services?
I have installed the 12volt.solutions module. I had some difficulty getting to the connectors to plug it in, but other than that, the installation was not hard. There is no app for the phone or anything like that, so it does not work from your phone. It is activated by depressing the lock button on remote 3 times in succession. The key presses must happen within a minimum amount of time, say 5 seconds. Also, they state that your car MUST be push button start, or else it cannot work correctly.

I find it works great for me.

***Edited to remove (strike-through) remark about phone***

This is not true. I just ordered the 12V solutions module that I linked to with the App module. The link should have indicated that. The app module adds remote start from a phone app. I think it is $30/$40 a year for the cellular service.
Below is a link that you can use to order the app module separately for the remote start that you have already installed.

I stand corrected. I've edited my post.

Okay, after a week and a half with the 12V solutions remote start + app module, here is my comparison to the factory remote start.

Pros:
1. It [still] works after the 3G shutdown
2. It is nearly instant. A second or three instead of a minute or three to start.
3. The yearly cost is $40 instead of $200.
4. The app gives a car battery voltage reading.
5. You can use it to lock the doors while the car is running (doesn't have to have been remote stared, can start with the button). If you do, you also have to use the app to unlock it (or the mechanical key).

Cons:
1. It unlocks the doors (or maybe just the driver's door) before starting, then locks it back. The unlocked time is about 10 seconds.
2. It does not give OBD2 diagnostic codes or odometer reading.
3. No web browser access, app only.
4. One time $450 or so up front cost. (passes breakeven after 3 years)

Compustar and Viper are two other systems that seem popular.

I'll eventually get one, just not sure which. I renewed Connected Services until April, as my '19 wasn't affected by the 3G deal.
