  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

There are a couple of thread here about remote starters. Depending on the features you want, figure from about $250 to $550 for one installed. Takes a couple of yours to put one in. Check your local auto electronics store.

Wish I did it sooner. The aftermarket starter is faster and more reliable than connected services.

A few years ago I couldn't pass up a Best Buy deal for $300 to install a Compustar DC-3 unit that included the addon Drone phone module. At the time it normally sold for around $500. On occasion it went on sale and I got lucky and caught it. My wife bought a new car last year and I checked in every week for a few months but it never went on sale.

So... I bought one and installed it myself. If you're a decent DIYer, it takes maybe an hour or two. Very easy to install, I spent most of the time trying to figure out where to mount it under the dash with tyraps.

The main unit, Drone module and harness was around $200 (via me searching for the best prices) and I also needed a $50 USB adapter to 'register' the unit and for additional programming. There's a monthly charge for the phone connection and we went with the five year plan for $3 a month.

Works flawless and zero complaints (other than make sure you've picked the proper car to start!)

If you found one installed for $350, that's gonna be hard to beat. Make sure to check reviews.

has anyone dealt with Directed or nustartauto remote starters ?

Lilrobo,
I went with Directed, professionally installed.
It's excellent. Mine is is just a medium range system that works off their little fob. Works much farther than using Genesis fob.
Defeats the nanny state idea that car has to shut off when you enter, then restarted.
All buttons work as before; easy to lock or unlock while remoted; doesn't need to be locked to remote start.

They even asked me if I wanted heated seat to come on every start. It's easy to toggle that on-off seasonally.

And if I want, they will move 1 wire every spring and fall to make cooled seat come on in summer.
Come to think of it, I should have them put in a 2 way switch for that.

Couldn't be happier with this product.

i do like the heated seats and cooled opt

There are some that allow one fob. Not so bad though. The second one is about 1/3 the size and is clamped on with a short chain so you just grab them at the same time.

What is nice, the car start in seconds, not minutes or not at all like connected services. I should have done it sooner.

I have the Compustar 1900S. It is the middle model and gives two way feedback. $448 installed.

I'm sure others are good too, this was local and available.

Do you have to use 2 fobs ?

Yes, the second one is about 1/3 the size and they are together on a piece of chain so you grab them both. I also have a keychain with house keys, mailbox, etc so I don't find it a big deal to grab it all.
