If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My poor Genny was beat up in a hail storm on May 2, 2016.

It was pretty well repaired using the PDR technique --

But if I were to replace it, is the G80 V8 a near exact replacement? And what kind of trade-in value am I looking at - The hail repair was almost perfect, and it has only 7000 miles.

Lastly, what is the current G80 model year? 2017?

There are some minor enhancements, but pretty much the same.
Have no idea on trade-in value.
Current model year for G80 is 2017.

Should be similar enough. There are a few updates made and the G80's come with service included. But, you are going to take a serious hit on your trade-in. I just got a '15 Genesis V8 Ultimate with CPO coverage for 66% of MSRP, aka $36,000. I wouldn't be surprised if you got between $28,000 to $33,000, depending on how equipped it is...possibly less if there is a record of the repairs made.

G80 is a 2017 model year.

If you have an Ultimate now then you will not get the same in a G80. I believe they got rid of the electronic shocks, rear electric sun shade, rear side window shades and heated seats. Go look at the Genesis site and compare the options in the 5.0. Kinda sad what they did.... But you do get a bigger nav screen!

I don't have the ultimate & shades are one of the sillier things on the car. But even my old Sonata has heated seats.

Would a G90 V8 AWD be something you'd consider?

The G80 has heated seats, just not heated rear seats.

Never used the rear shade on my gen1 therefor do not miss the non included in Canada rear shade of the gen2. That being said I do have tint on the rear windows. If it gets really hot, I fire up the remote start which cools it down in no time just like I have been remote starting it as of late in the mornings because of the -25c temps.

After the big hailstorm mooshed my cars last May, I had a nice double carport built.

Now, I have no worries about summer sunshine, hail, rain, snow, dew, or frost - best investment I ever made.

Couldn't you go through insurance to get the damages fixed? They should be able to fix the car to basically 100% if the shop is good. But you trade in is gonna blowwwwwww.

The damage was fixed using the PDR method & ins. paid something like $12K for both cars.

But, after that kind of hailstorm, ain't nothing the same again.

The storm happened on May 2 and they're still roofing houses around here.

PS. the trade in on a Genesis will blow you away, in any case - you lose $20K in value the day you drive it home.

I've been watching trade-in and private party sales numbers on my 15 V6 Ultimate. I only have 15.5K miles and the car is in better than great shape. Just in the few days I've noticed the values going up. Perhaps it has something to do with the tighter used car market or the time of year. I have 15 months left on my lease and can't wait to get rid of the car. The very first time I checked value I was beyond disappointed but now I am getting closer to my payoff amount. I'm watching the market and if I can get close to my buyout I might go ahead and sell it. This was my first Hyundai/Genesis and will be last.

Really? I love mine so far, what didn't you like about it? I only have a few months in mine, but so far I can't find much fault; The only thing that annoys me atm is when its really cold out the panoramic roof seems to creak over bumps, but once the car warms up and the seals soften it goes away

Yeah, that's true enough, some hail can be pretty destructive for sure. We don't get big hail storms here where I live, but I've seen some hail when I lived in the Prairies that was almost as big as a golf ball. Crazy big hail. Either way, the trade in is not gonna be pleasant so soon into a finance or lease term. :(

I was wondering the same thing.

I've had mine now for 9 months and have, thus far, really enjoyed the ownership experience (except perhaps the cost of the first oil/filter change). The only problem I've had to go to the dealer about was the USB port not being connected. They had it fixed in less than 90 minutes.

It's a smooth-riding comfy car that goes like stink when I want it to. I'm not that concerned about the depreciation factor since I paid $14K under sticker and got the dealer add-ons (the ones for which they tried to tack over $3k onto the sticker) for no charge with the E-plan certificate.

Yeah, I'm just about to clue up my 4th month with the car now, and I am quite satisfied with both the ownership experience and the dealership, as well as the car itself. It's not the V8, but even the V6 is pretty quick for a big car, it's quite comfortable and it looks good.

So at 1100 miles I had the tires replaced with Michelin tires as the result of the recall. Both the old set and new set have really bad flat spots on them after sitting only a few hours. It is not dependent on temperature or tire inflation. Makes me think its the car and not the tires. Dealership service (which totally sucks (0-3 on maintenance visits) says "what do you expect its a heavy car". All my Volvo s were "really" heavy and never did I experience this. From almost day one I have had the air conditioning stink. Dealership can't fix it they just spray the intakes. I keep a can of Lysol in the garage and give it a spray every once in a while. The sunroof creaks and rattles almost constantly. The uneven tires accentuate this even more. I will say I like the tech on this car. The controller is amazing but my overall experience with this car is very poor. The dealer service can't do anything right so from a premium experience I'm missing it with the car and the service. So as I said I"m moving on as quickly as I can.
