  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

At 32000 km after three years, the stock tires (255/40R21 Michelin Primacy Tour A/S) on my Performance model GV60 are worn out. I have never gone through a set of tires so quickly.

I live on the rainy north-west coast of Canada. Most years there is snow on the ground for a few days. Last winter there was no snow at all. During rare winters there is snow for several weeks or more.

I am looking at three replacement tire options:

Michelin Crossclimate 2
Michelin Primacy Tour A/S
Nokian Surpass AS01

Concerns I have are road noise, effect of the tires on range, and safety in the rain / avoiding hydroplaning, less important is snow performance but it will be nice to have good snow performance the odd time when it it needed. The Nokians are significantly less expensive and seem well-reviewed but currently I can't find them in stock.

Any advice based on others' experience would me much appreciated.

I can't imagine a better replacement than the original Michelin. They are great tires. Don't feel bad about the tire wear. My AMG required new $2400 tires every 12,000 miles.

Tirerack tested the Crossclimates and while generally had positive comments they noted an 15% loss of range.

I did some research also for all-season tires and I found 3 good choices. The Yokohama Geolandar X-CV, the Hankook ION EVO AS SUV, and also the Michelin originals are great tires. Per TireRack website they have the first two I mentioned also but they select the GoodYear Assurance Weatherready2 as their third choice. Apparently in their tests the Michelin, although it is great performer for sound and comfort, the treadwear loss is higher than the GoodYear but a great tire nevertheless. There are some tire manufacturers makin tires specifically for EVs now where one of the "upgrades" is to add some form of wall (usually foam) to reduce the thread distortion due to the excessive weight and also helps with the sound and ride smoothness. EVs are notorious to eat the edges of the tires and some manufacturers are tackling this problem with new thread designs and other wall tweaks. Some examples are Michelin Pilot Sport EV, Yokohama Advan Sport EV A/S, Hankok Ventus S1 EVO3 EV, Bridgestone Turanza EV, and others. These examples may not be available to the GV60, I just mentioned them as they are specially made for EV vehicles. Noticed the manufacturers try to give the customer a hint incorporating something EV related in the name. There's another manufacturer (I can't remember which) that it added "Elec" or something like that in the name also so it's not just the "EV" nomenclature used for it. Just do some research and find which one might work best for what you are looking in a tire. Remember a lot of this is try and error process, specially with the EV world as it is so new to the market.

We're happy with the Hankook ION EVO AS SUV tires that we installed to replace the (out of round) OE Michelins...

Have you seen any change in efficiency?

32k/km, wow, that’s fast, I was just under 70k/km & that was a surprise considering the way I drive. I just put Cross Climate 2 on a couple of weeks ago. I don’t quite understand the 15% loss claims but I only look at battery percentage, so I didn’t see a 1% average difference. Driving 100km (62mi) round trip daily (almost all highway), that would equate to 15km (9mi), I would never notice that small change. My two bits.

We don’t track efficiency that closely on that car, but based on a couple of road trips before and after the tire swap, if anything the new tires seem to be slightly more efficient.

They’re certainly quieter and ride better.

I also got them as a replacement, but didn't install yet, they have good reviews. Michelins are wearing good- almost 38k, will replace them in a couple of months

Although it may not be what the OP is looking for, I replaced the Primacys with Pirelli Scorpion WeatherActives. I needed a stickier tire for the slushy, snowy days I find myself driving in a dozen times/year.

They've been a good change for me but I do think it has cost me on the efficiency side. Maybe 5-10% less efficient? Otherwise I would recommend. In fact, I put them on my wife's minivan as well.

Edit to say I cross shopped the Pirellis with CrossClimate 2s but ended up deciding on the Pirellis. I want to say there's a CrossClimate 3 coming out in the near future that might be worth a look...

On my Mach E, before I went to the GV60, I put on Michelin Cross Climate 2's and they were excellent tires. I ran them about 5psi higher than Ford suggested and did not notice any appreciable loss of range. Will get the same tires for my GV6o when it is time.

I have ordered a set of Nokian Surpass AS01 for my GV60, based on good reviews, will see how this works out. Ordered Crossclimate 2's for my wife's Ioniq 5.

I bought the Lexani VOLT-EC 235/50R20 all season tires from Walmart for my GV60 Advanced. EV specific tires and only $101 each (they're $115 each now).
