If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Replacing 21" wheels with 19"

Just got my new wheels installed...I think they look good, though the picture isn't great. They are machined chrome on the face but matte bronze inside, which I think goes well with the Burgundy...and the dark chrome almost looks a bit bronze in some light.

Looks fantastic! Getting mine has been a fiasco. UPS, the butchers, damaged 2 wheels, others were scratched. Long story short, finally got my wheels, tires installed, and bam...installers knicked the clear in two places on one wheel. Now it's getting refinished. Itching to get my summers on!

Wow...that's a pain! The Genesis dealership destroyed my old tires while I was waiting to get them mounted - a truck drove over them. So they replaced all 4 tires with new ones. Makes you wonder what goes on in the service bays out back...

The increased fuel economy comes from the fact that it takes less power to accelerate the car with the smaller / lighter OEM wheel. So your savings actually depend on how much stop and go driving you do. If you do a lot of highway driving the savings will be negligible, if you do a lot of stop-and-go driving you'll see a benefit. You also see a marginal increase in your acceleration with the smaller wheels. All that being said, it is possible to get the same fuel economy benefit from putting on an aftermarket 21“ wheel that weighs less than the stock 21" wheels.

Holy crap! That sounds unreal!

Well this has been an absolute nightmare. Finally got my wheels on last night. I took the time to pressure wash each wheel well from winter crud, clean the components, cleaned the brakes and put a coat of ceramic on them. Side note, anyone else notice how much dirt those damn wheel well liners hold? I swear, even with my pressure washer about 1.5" from the liner, I had to spend a good 10 mins on each before I stopped seeing a significant amount of dirty water coming off them. Brutal!

Wheels are gloss black but machined face with a tinted clear, so the pattern and design stands out. I was looking for a muted look, but as I have stated many a time on this forum, solid black is not my thing because of lack of definition unless within 20 ft and vehicle not moving. The tinted clear is a good match with the tinted trim along the windows. Not exactly the same tone but it works. i was trying to avoid total chrome delete...not looking for that total stealth look either. Wheels themselves are just under 20lbs each, Rotary forged.

And happy to say that my offset calculations worked out perfectly. I went with +32, 21 x9, and the tire has a very slight poke at the front (about 1/8", which is what I was expecting) and the back is very close to flush. Looks perfect and with the slightly wider tires, it has a nice aggressive stance.

The Fast spline nuts supplied are perfect in every way, length, quality of finish (gloss black) and the key easily fit in the wheel without making contact inside the lug bore holes. Tip - in order to prevent accidental scratching or dings, I wrapped some Gorilla black duct tape around the key so there is about 1/16" past the end, that way, if I accidentally tap the face of the wheel when putting it in, contact is with the tape, not the end of the key...thus no ding, 'cause I have never done that before :-| . And just long enough not to interfere with the key going over the lug. Works like a charm.

Anyway, I digress. So, got my wheels on and went for a drive. All seemed to start well, then got up to some speed. At around 55 kms/hr, start to hear a faint drone, which increases in pitch as I go faster. At 80-85 kms, very noticeable and loud, higher pitch, and over 110 a little ridiculous. Also have a vibration at 70 kms and over 110 kms/hr. But I did not notice in the steering which may mean it is isolated to the rear wheels/tires. Given both issues, there is a decent chance that one of the tires may in fact be defective, according to BlackCircles.ca, which is where I bought them. I would be surprised if a balance issues because the shop uses a Hunter Road Force balancer. One of the best. In fact, that was a must when choosing the shop to install. If anyone has experience in these sort of things, input is appreciated.

The shop that installed said they will have a look, so have to bring car back there so they can take a look again at the balance of the wheel, and the tires themselves. If the tires, I have to file a claim with Black Circles.ca and likely pay the shop more $$ to reinstall and balance. What a royal pain in the buttox.

I was worried degradation in ride quality, which is why I upsized to a 265/40/21 from stock 255/40/21. I was hoping that the slighty taller sidewall would give me a bit more cushion. i also chose a Touring tire rather than a performance tire...touring are designed for better ride quality. At my age, the days of "spirited" driving are long past. Result? while you do feel bumps slightly more, I am extremely happy with the ride quality. No where near the jarring impacts I was concerned I would feel over bumps. The bonus of upsizing? The variety of tires available increases significantly, the costs are significantly less than stock size. Yes, speedo is slightly off, but had an speedometer app on my phone this morning comparing my HUD speed with it constantly, and only noticed on the highway where they were off by about 1 km per hr. Obviously the app is not perfect, but still provides a good idea.

Crappy weather for over a week and a half here, so once we get a stretch of decent weather, I will give it a clean and post some pics somewhere on this forum.

I think the last mod I am going to do at this point is paint the muffler tips black. Not a fan of the stainless being so prominent from the rear given my badges are blacked out.

Sorry for the long post.

I was worried about running into problems with spacers, nuts, balancing, etc...so I actually had Genesis do the tire mounting, balancing and installation. I also gave them 3rd party TPMS sensors that they swore wouldn't work, but they did. ;) I had no problems with that, but the alignment was off when I got my car back...I took it back and they found something needed a "small adjustment" so I think they actually did something to it when they were mounting the wheels.

I am super, super-sensitive to any kind of harsher ride so I ruled out the 21" wheels immediately - I considered 20" but when I put on winter tires (19"), I really noticed how much harsher they were to drive on, so I realized I'm not going to like 20" wheels either. I even complained to Genesis when I got my new tires mounted on the new 19" rims that they put too much air in the tires (39 PSI all around). I had to let air out of the tires...so, you can imagine how much 21" wheels would bug me. I'm way too picky on that front. Which is a shame, because I certainly like the look of 20-21" wheels better!

Oh well...good luck with getting that noise figured out!

I have a 2023 sport prestige 2.5 T and I have been getting 24 mpg in the city. Highway mileage has been closer to 30 mpg. Both figures are using 93 Octane.
I am obsessing over this as well. Do you have the 21-in tires and you're still getting that kind of gas mileage Or do you have the sport Prestige in Canada that has the smaller tires?

my tire size is 255/40R21. Keep in mind, I am in my fifties. I don’t drive the hell out of it but I do enjoy a little fun now and then. If you drive around flooring at 24 seven and slamming on the brakes repeatedly, you’re not gonna get the same mileage. I plan on having mine for a while, so I want to take care of it.

On a sidenote, I had to bring mine in for a torque converter recall. There’s very little information on the web or any other public notice and very hard to get details. Even the dealership is acting strange about it they told me it was gonna be six hours to replace, they’ve had the car for two full days and he said probably nothing till next week? Aggravating to save the least. So far not very impressed with the Genesis experience. It’s a shame because the car seems to be decent, but sometimes makes me question of Genesis can compete with the heavy hitters! I want to believe they can cause I’ve always backed Hyundai products, but something this major is a little too soon for my taste.

I just got a 23 GV70 2.5T Sport Prestige in green, but I don't want the 21" rims. I prefer the better MPG of 19" rims. Is it possible to just do a straight swap?

I'm willing to trade with anyone. Located in SoCal.

Out of curiosity, do you still have the 21 inch wheels and tires.
