  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I thought we might start a thread one various issues that might be a concern on the GV60.
The two initial issues have to do with the Ioniq 5 but since they are both based on the same e-GMP platform we might expect them to plague the GV60 as well.

1. charging: a couple of youtube reviews have noted that the Ioniq does not have pre conditioning of the battery. As a result, cold weather charging never exceeded 50-60 kw. It took 18 minutes to go from 20 to 40% at a two Electrify America stations.
The review also alluded to multiple complaints of the same slow charing in Europe.
This is likely fixable by an OTA update but that would be a sad start if the Genesis has similar slow charging, particularly when their major claim is the speed of charging.

2. another review discussed how bad the visibility out the back window without a wiper was in snowy weather.

I may have seen the same YouTube reviews you mentioned on the charging, however some more recent ones indicated that there is now pre-conditioning functionality. IIRC, the GV60 material specifically mentioned pre-conditioning.

That would certainly be good! thanks for the info

Regarding the preconditioning, I believe it is capable if the built in nav is set for guidance to a known DC fast charger. I don't believe it can be triggered manually by the driver yet though. I sure hope we get the option to either in car or in the app to precondition for DC charging especially in winter months.

I can't imagine that manual preconditioning is a difficult thing to do if already possible via the nav system. Seems a significant oversight not to have it from day one - particularly when they are so heavily promoting the 18-minute charge time. Do you know if/how this would be different than the manual pre-drive conditioning that is available?
I was doing some math and calculated that if/when able to draw >200kW, it would be cheaper to charge using Petro Canada's network at 33c/min than at home. :)

It's my understanding that the pre-drive conditioning that is available is climate only. Used to warm the cabin and the battery slightly just to drive and defrost the windows. A DC fast charge preconditioning requires a lot more heat put into the battery to prepare it for high amperage charging - and I believe it's only capable of doing that while the car is in motion, not parked. I also believe the entire pack needs to be preconditioned to around 15C to enable decent DC charging rates, beyond which point the high current draw will continue to heat the pack while it charges.

I also did the same math for the kW rate on Petro's network. Where I live its also in that same neighborhood. Careful planning and only using that 10-80% zone on the DC charger could be more economical than home charging as long as the weather is nice enough, but it sure is less convenient than having a home charger to trickle in overnight.

Yep, the Ioniq5 and EV6 have air deflecting slots on the roofline spoilers, without that trick one will need to RainX monthly.

I wasn't sure how else to share this file, as a video file wouldn't work. So I zipped it. But it's an Ioniq 5's rear window after driving in the snow. I thought it was...interesting.

Yikes! I'm surprised to see that. I'd have thought that keeping the rear defroster on would keep snow from accumulating. Personally, I'd be more concerned with mess from wet/slushy roads.

that's exactly what i was talking about above. why in the world wouldn't they put a wiper on the rear? it's a luxury vehicle and no rear visibility in snow or sleat?

Most people in the world don't have large amounts of slow or sleet
So no cars should have rear wipers then as most places don’t get snow or sleet.

Clearly, you can't please everyone.

Two things to keep in mind:
1) We don’t yet know what the aerodynamics of the GV60 will mean for potential snow accumulation. We’ve seen that the Ioniq seems quite bad, and the EV6 seems a fair bit better. It isn’t clear how necessary one is for the GV60.
2) Market-specific changes are made for vehicles all the time. It would not be unreasonable to expect a rear wiper for North American vehicles.

Here's a couple reasons for a rear wiper that have absolutely nothing to do with snow. Have you ever been in the south in Spring pollen season? Sticky yellow goop covers the rear window of our SUV any time it's parked outside until we can clear it off with the wiper/washer. And a couple months ago, while in Dallas after a west Texas dust storm air-mixed with an overnight rain, our SUV was COVERED with a muddy film. It was easily removed from the windshield and rear window with our SUV's wipers/washers, but the $150K+ Acura NSX with a long sloping rear window and no rear wiper that was parked next to my vehicle in the hotel lot had a completely opaque rear view that will have to remain that way until they could take it somewhere for a car wash.

I eliminated the new Cadillac Lyriq from consideration for this reason (no rear wiper), and now I'm disappointed to learn its not on any of the Hyundai/Genesis EVs too. Cadillac actually touts it as an esthetic advantage to NOT have a rear wiper. Personally, I'd live with a bit less cosmetic "improvement" for the obvious functional requirement of a rear wiper--even if it added to the price or was at least available as an option.

First question here:

In the insideevs actual range testing the closely related Hyundai Ioniq 5 product scored a full 24% lower range than the published range on 20" wheels (which were much worse than 19" wheels).

My concern is that the GV60 Performance might have quite a low range.

Look forward to hearing real world reports.

Where’s the question? 😀

Does anyone know if Genesis will consider adding a rear wiper? Seems odd to include bells and whistles such as facial recognition and a crystal ball but not include a rear wiper.

No reason to think they will add a wiper. FWIW the soon-to-be-launched electrified GV70 will almost certainly have a rear wiper.
