I know someone mentioned something along these lines earlier, either on this forum or one of the FB forums. Thought I would share my thoughts and ask others for their observations.
I tend to carry my keys with me at all times, so this is not a routine issue. But I was curious about the finger touch start authentication since my GV60 appeared inconsistent at recognizing my fingerprint when the message to do so would pop up when I got into the car (with key).
Something seemed off with the consistency, specifically how the retry message displayed. So I started experimenting, setting my keys down far enough from the car so as to not engage it, instead relying on my Face ID to open it and my fingerprint to start it. And, voila, the vast majority of the time it authenticates just fine.
The rare occasions it hasn't, I have simply waited the required lockout time (1 minute at times, 3 at others, and once even 4 minutes). And ultimately, in all cases it did start ... though I did find it seems to work better if I leave the car entirely and start fresh from the door a couple of minutes later. One time it even popped up a lockout message, only to then immediately display that authentication was successful.
My theory is this -- There is a delay on the screen itself, triggering it to ask you to retry though it has in fact already authenticated (or is still in process of authenticating). The message that it hasn't authenticated just seems premature to the processing. And if you keep trying, you may in fact cause an authentication issue, like perhaps it can't authenticate twice so it displays an error. That was particularly apparent the time it displayed the lock-out message seconds before displaying the successful authentication message.
Bottom line is I'm not resetting my fingerprint as I did early in my experimentation. I think the fingerprint imprint is fine ... it's just the vehicle sometimes has a lag in authenticating it.
Has anyone else observed anything similar? Or have an alternative explanation?
