If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Ridiculously low MPG on GV70. Anyone knows why?

Is your engine fully broken in? I’m assuming you have more than 500 miles? I have the 3.3 so may be slight differences in mpg but not anything huge. I stay in comfort mode, drive 11 miles to work in the mornings through lights and light traffic. Speeds 35 to 45mph and I average 20mpg over 24 minutes. One thing I’ve noticed is trip time affects accuracy. If I run to the store that is a 5 minute trip going similar speeds as I do going to work, mpg sucks. If I go to a store 20 minutes away, again average speeds 35-45mph, the mpg will jump up closer to 18-20mpg. I don’t think Genesis uses a fuel flow meter, but maybe some fuzzy logic or it counts injector pulses or something? If I drive 5 minutes the fuel flow per minute at 35mph should be similar as if I drive 20 minutes at the same speed but the calculated mpg will be way different. When I’m at a stop light I’ve seen the mpg number change when I’m not going anywhere. At idle speeds I would think you would need to idle for a long time to affect how much fuel is really used to affect mpg. Take a 30 minute trip, stay away from sport mode you should get close to 20mpg unless you are a heavy throttle user.

The mpg numbers for very short trips are legitimately worse because the time spent accelerating up to speed (where your mileage sucks) is a much larger percentage of the total time driven, compared to a longer drive. So it's normal for your average mpg to be a good bit lower on a very short trip - unless you're going downhill. 😉

If the car's computer only took data samples and calculated an average every minute or so, then I would agree that the accuracy over short periods of time would be very poor. But since it's (likely) looking at injector time (or more appropriately injector duty cycle), it would have thousands of samples to use for calculating the average, even for a short trip of just a few miles.
Many people may not realize just how bad the mileage is while accelerating or going up hill, which of course is why stop and go driving trashes your mpg.

Any rear end noises?

Hey, let's not get personal 🤣

Hey, let's not get personal 🤣
That would normally be funny but it's too soon for me as I just realized today the transfer case is going. It seems to be holding it back at low speeds so made me wonder if that drag might be reducing the mileage.

Sorry to hear that.

Hi friends I’m a new 2023 GV70 owner and after a few weeks driving around I noticed that my average MPG is ridiculously low - between 8-10 and my full tank only last for about 140-150miles in total. I wonder if you guys know any possible cause (perhaps I did something wrong) or it is still normal?

My GV70 is 3.5T sports prestige and I know it is supposed to consume quite a lot of gas. But 8-10 MPG is hardly making any sense for a compact SUV even though most of my mileage is in city roads.

For further information:
1) I drove in comfort mode
2) I seldom use AC, never used seat heating/cooling
3) Didn’t play music at all

Anyone has the similar issue as I do? Thank you for your advice
Genesis doesn't have best in class mileage. Demo cars are driven erratically, and idle a lot, but even the demo car (2.5L Sports) which I test drove showed 13.1MPG (18L/100km) in mostly city driving of 17 km. So, 8-10MPG city mileage that you are getting is too low and it might not be just down to driving habit.

Test the highway mileage by driving 100 plus miles or so in a single trip at mostly highway speed. If the highway mileage is also unusually low, there may be something wrong. Talk to Genesis service about it and insists that you want the fuel injector, air and fuel filter, airflow sensor and the oxygen sensor to be checked. A new car should not have problems with these, but you never know. One of these sensors could be faulty. Also ensure you run with recommended tire pressure.

Writing from previous experience - once the air filter got dirty in my car (not a Genesis) and I never knew it and I assumed nothing could be wrong as servicing was done on time. But it was discovered later that it was dirty, and I was losing as much as 30% on the mileage.

I'm averaging only 19.5-20 MPG on my 2.5. But I basically got the same fuel economy on the 3.5 I had as a loaner (and I pushed it hard). Something does seem off.

That being said I've gotten as low as 8.5 mpg on my 2.5T for very short traffic filled trips (like to go pick up food a couple miles away).

Actual MPG differs by driver and driving style and has many factos such as tire pressure, outside temp, quality of fuel, etc. If you are seeing 8-10 mile per gallon that insane and I'd love to see a picture of it showing a drive of more than 3-4 miles. I'm curious if you are sitting in stop and go traffic and doing some really hard accelerations.

Even doing hard accelerations on my way to the grocery store (4 miles away) I've never seen my 3.5 GV70 drop below 15-16 MPG for that short trip. If I accidently cruise on the way back without hitting stop signs I can't get it below 20 MPG. If you are driving in comfort mode and actually seeing those numbers you either need the a fix of something crazy the dealer should be able to pinpoint or you need to adjust where you buy your fuel and your VERY heavy foot.
Thanks friend. Will have my car checked soon.

If You're getting 8-10mpg, I'd suggest trading it in for a Dodge Charger Hellcat... It gets about the same gas mileage, but it will get you anywhere faster than your GV70 :gathering:
True, for all I know I can get 8-10 mpg from a decent 18 wheeler, which is like 10+ times heavier than GV70

Fill up the tank, drive to near empty, fill up the gas tank all the way, divide amount of gas put in tank by miles driven and you have your MPG. The onboard MPG calculator on any car is never accurate. This calculation requires less work than an internet post!

Very informative, thank you my friend!

Yes that's what I did, like I said, less than 150 miles with full tank (17.4Gal tank)

To all friends who saw this post: mystery solved. I have taken my GV70 to a long distance ride and it turned out to average in 22-24MPG (peaked at 24.5, see photo below) during this 600+miles trip. After I got back, the MPG has since never fallen below 16. The only difference is that I refilled gas along the trip using random Exxon/Shell supply instead of using the gas station I always went to (which is near my place/dealer). The increase is significant. The car itself is fine, I will never refill gas from that store again.

As you put more and more miles, your highway mileage will increase and will approach the advertised. I noticed this with my previous cars, and no reason why GV70 would be different. Keep an eye out. 16-17MPG average is still on the lower side, but not too bad.

Steady motorway driving.

4.9 litres per 100 kilometres. (U.S. 48 mpg)

Wow, never got anywhere near that in my 2.5T! The diesel engine isn't even an option here. The lowest I've ever seen is about 7.9 L/100 KM

I am still on 10.2L/100 Km :(

Yeah, that's probably my average. I went on a 300 KM trip today and I was seeing 8.2 for the last, flat section. My overall average is 10.5 I think, which includes a lot of idling over the last 3 weeks for warm ups.
