  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Ridiculously low MPG on GV70. Anyone knows why?

Sometimes the older stations have bad tanks that leak. Used to drive a three hour commute between cities and every time I filled up at a certain Shell, which was at the half way point, my car would run like crap. Found out that not only had water been getting into the station's main tank but fuel got out and polluted the ground water too. There was an artesian well (spring) were locals used to get free water and they posted warning signs last time I was there. Anyways, since then I always prefer to use newer gas stations.

Yeah, that's probably my average. I went on a 300 KM trip today and I was seeing 8.2 for the last, flat section. My overall average is 10.5 I think, which includes a lot of idling over the last 3 weeks for warm ups.
I'm surprised remote start hadnt been mentioned in this thread prior to this. If I don't use remote start (10 minutes) in the morning I get about 24-25 mpg average in my 3.5, if I do use it I usually see around 20-21. This was for a 20ish mile commute. I'm very curious as to what my mileage is gonna be when I get my car back now that my commute is over thrice that.

Not in this thread, but I've mentioned before about how different vehicles calculate MPG differently. Some only calculated when the vehicle is in drive or moving. Other vehicles calculate when the engine is running and drive by mileage. Each vehicle is unique.

But it also amazes me that so many people think because the estimated MPG is ~24 or whatever, that no matter how they drive, no matter what the driving conditions are, no matter what gas they put in their car, no matter the driving mode.... the GV70 should get 24 MPG because it was printed on a piece of paper.

Four weeks later and 550 miles I think the fuel tank is a sponge. Mileage is exceptionally poor. Maybe it has a rich tune. It’s anything but fuel efficient.

Gas mileage is definitely worse during the break in period. I don't remember when it started transitioning to being better; maybe around the 2,000-4,000 mile range. I could never get it to go above 24mpg doing 75 on the highway before then. Now I brush 30mpg doing 75-80 on the highway.

You have a 3.5, right? What are your mileage stats? How long are your drives, at what avg speed? At what points do you reset your MPG calculations in the onboard system? Do you track MPG using an app like Fuelio since the car and app sometimes track fuel consumption in different ways? What drive mode do you cruise around in?

I've seen a few others complain about low gas mileage on here and some other forums and FB groups. To prove their point some people include a picture of their dash. The picture normally tells the story to me about driving habits and why they get the numbers they do. Sometimes the picture shows ~20 miles traveled, in ~40 minutes of time which to me says they are in a lot of stop and go traffic which of course will not be ideal for high MPG. Or I've seen the opposite where they are getting low MPG but they just left their home 3 miles ago and are likely driving through a residential area and haven't gotten to an open road yet. None of that factors in if they are driving in Sport+ or Eco mode or their driving style.

For reference, I have a 3.5 and normally each tank consists of 50/50 mix between city and open highway driving. I have over 7,000 miles on the GV70 and my worst MPG was recorded at the start of November with 20.826 mpg, which was 90% city driving on winter gas which is expected to be worse MPG. My best MPG was when the odometer had just rolled over 3,100 miles and I got 25.638 MPG. That tank was about 80% two lane highway driving and 20% city, but not stop and go city travel. It is not uncommon for me to see 25-26 MPG while having cruise set at 75-80mph on interstate. I consistently get over 300 miles per full tank of gas, but I do agree I wish the tank was two of three gallons larger.

Honestly I do not try to reduce this to the lowest common D. I'm not complaining .. I'm just saying.
Currently breaking in. I drive in Comfort mode... no jack-rabbits... no quick throttling, A lot of stop and start local driving. Was on the turnpike yesterday and still think the mileage is poor. Could definitely be better. The milage sucks (no pun). My comments are based on the fuel indicator and the mile number going down substantially fast. Compared to our other rides it eats gas. Not a complaint. Not an anything other than my review of my GV70. Regardless I love it. I bought it to drive and looking forward to Sport mode. I'm retired and hardly travel. Great mileage is not a concern. The fuel tank could be larger yes!! If I knew then what I knew now... I'd buy it again and again. I traded a 2016 Q3 w/ 200hp... For the GV760 3.5 I'm concerned the sunroof might be open and I and go into passing gear on a windy day....hopefully my hairpiece does not blow off.
What mileage are you seeing with an all-wheel drive, 3.5 liter, 375 horsepower engine mated to a 4300lbs vehicle that you deem is so bad? You have made several comments about being unhappy, then said you don't care, and still won't provide any details.

Someone researching the GV70 while thinking of purchasing a GV70 reads owners comments that "the mileage is poor. Could definitely be better. The milage sucks (no pun)" and decides not to buy the car because owners are complaining about poor gas mileage. To me and possibly others that sounds like complaining from an owner and yet we don't know if your MPG is within the estimated MPG printed on the window sticker.

I understand you don't care if you get 12 MPG or 35 MPG, but making public statements without a benchmark can impact others decisions when they read owners not complaining comments like "Mileage is exceptionally poor" and "It’s anything but fuel efficient".

Let's pass. I'm quiting here. Not looking to debate.
LOL. You make the post the above, which I respected and let the topic drop.

But then you feel the need to come back 30-ish minutes later and edit your post with the red font below???
Let's pass. I'm quiting here. Not looking to debate. I'm sorry (not really) I posted any comments. We move on.

Deewan... If you are a Genesis sales person or represent Genesis and you feel my comments can or will effect your sales I'll gladly delete my posts. Otherwise you do not have to defend the GV70. This thread is not the bottom line.

I'm not a Genesis sales person. I'm simply someone who read your post, sees through your wishy washy back and forth "facts" and asks you for clarification so other people who may not realize your full of it do not get confused by your comments as you look for attention. Let me be very clear I am not asking for you to prove your statements because what you say impacts me, I am asking for facts because I feel your comments could impact others. I know you are full of it and I know the MPG of the GV70 because I own it and drive it.

To put things in terms you enjoy using (more than once and in a few threads), I need to continue this conversation with you like a snail needs air brakes. I'll gladly see myself out of interacting with you and not come back later to edit my post or ask you for clarification so you don't confuse others. You and I can go our own ways and hope that anyone who reads your nonsense realizes it's just that. Deal? :)

You do have a nice way of expressing yourself. Well written. I never came back and have no idea where the red came from. I deleted and done is done. Please indicate the post # and I'll gladly delete again. As for me being full of it. I take great pride and take that as a compliment. Thank you.

Public apology to the readers for our intellectual bit of mensa exchange. Deal my friend. You’re on my ignore list. I’m passing you like gas… since that is the topic. Aside from all this I got a good deal on car insurance but mileage still is poor. Life ain’t fair.

Just did 115 mile trip with my GV80 3.5 TT and got 25.5. I am not complaining.

Jealous here. Is the 3.5 the same as the GV70. If so that’s great milege.

Yes it is the same. I just drove the limit.
