  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Rigid Collars installed on my G2!

After the collars, the alignments are way off and it is fixed now. I will recheck in a month to see if it is still under spec or not. The alignment shop was asking what happened to the car? Saying it is a nice new car and how come the alignment is this off?

1) softish plastic from front rear bolts
2) front front hiding under steering rack boot
3) front rear with collar on it
4) garage dog
5) rear rear with collar
6) rear front loc
7) rear front after plate removal
8) rear front after collar torqued in
9) another view of front front
10) another view of front front when trying to fit collar, there does seem to be a "collar" of some type welded on, but there is still room to move, so I am going to get the front "spare" collars and get them turned down (outside diam) by 50% at a local machine shope and see if I can fit them then....just for shits and giggles - - small red points at rim of collar, large red points at "welded surface" with small circle showing face area, yellow arrow showing bind point, blue pointing at base of bolt

I am looking for a pic of the front front collar with a scored area on it after trying to fit it, if I can't find it I will take another pic and side by side it with the only one that didn't get (or attempted to be) installed.

Additional thoughts, total time was about 2.5hrs, I also did an oil change. The bulk of the time was taking off and replacing all 5 underbelly pans. You can do the job without removing ALL of them, but the more you remove the easier it will be only had to use the impact on the rear rears, everything off cranked off just fine with a 2ft bar and socket. Oil change is muuuuuuuuuuuuch easier from the bottom of this car, I may start going to this place to do oil changes instead of doing it from the top, at $20/hr for a lift and no sneaky charges...not even oil fees or tool fees, it just makes sense (DIY Austin on Bratton Lane, southwest corner of 45 and 35). Total cost at the garage was $82.71. I brought many of my own tools, but you have a standard kit as part of the lift rentals and everyone is super cool and knows what they are doing. Now the $64K question, is there a difference? Absolutely, I could feel it immediately, it's subtle but there, at low and high speed (took it up to 110 on the toll road), turning feels more positive, not sure "sharper" is the word I would use. Absolute bottom line, would I do again? In a heartbeat for twice the price.

Interesting to compare your front, front to mine. No pre-welded collar what-so-ever on mine. And I didn't have the plastic sleeves on any of the bolts.

Took mine in to check the alignment yesterday and everything was still in spec. I told the shop guys about the collars and they commented that on some cars they have to loosen the subframe bolts and nudge it around to get a car in spec. I still can't believe this slop exists in the first place...

Finally installed the collars, it was a fairly simple install. I used all 4 of the front collars and there were no plastics sleeves on any of the bolts.

Oof, so finally went and did an alignment, aaaaaaaand I done been scrubbin tars. the toe was WAY off front and back and the rear camber was all over the place too, all done now, car drives better and a very slight vibration is now gone, boy if you do these, get that alignment sooner than I did

I did these on my G1 and it was a huge difference, might have to do it on the G2 as well.

I installed rigid collars on my 5.0 last week and went to check an alignment today, which wasn't needed. Everything is still within a factory specs.

Those are before and after pics.

There is a considerable amount of confusion in this thread. However, I am going to order these and see if they make a difference.

They do make a difference, proved on my Gen 1, I haven't got around to order it for my Gen 2 yet.

I wonder if Tom would give a special discount for forum members ? :)

Who is this Tom character, I need a set of these, but I might order from ebay for the gene coupe its like have the price of atq.

I ordered my today. I couldn't for the life of me remember the name of the company or what the collars were called.... like for months.... Anyway, I'll let you guys know when I get them and my before and after.

Seriously, I don't see any difference in driving/handling, before and after installing them. The 2nd generation of Genesis have much tighter suspension compare to 1st gen. that would explain why owners of 1st generation like those rigid collars on their cars.

Btw. the name of the company is ATQ Automotive Products Inc their FB page https://www.facebook.com/atqservice/

ATQ's shipping rates are stupid, 31 bucks to ship for a total of 124 are you kidding me, get the same Gen coupe collars off ebay for 62 bucks shipped.

I am not sure the coupe collars are the same. They are shipped from Canada.

for 60 ish dollars I'd take my chances with it vs 95 + 31 in shipping. Worst case my machinist will turn them down a few more thou and should be fine.

Having access to free custom machinist work with a lift to custom fit and install a set of collars for around $50 is sure not available to 99.99% of us normal folks. Any collars that would need to be machined down would have to be done with the car available w/o the collar(s) needing work to custom fit each one to where it will be installed. Normally that cost IMO would be well north of the difference between the $126 for the correct collars and the $60 you would be paying for the coupe collars and you also don't know if the length of each couple collar is the same as the sedan ones and just how do you determine the proper length not to mention what if some of the couple collars are not too large as you are assume, but too small already for any sedan suspension holes needing collars ???? :p

I think trying to save $66 for something on a $50K+ car is working on the wrong end of things, but that's JMO .... It's your $$$$

BTW I installed these on not only my current Genesis, but also on my 2013 Sonata and they made a night and day difference in the handling especially around corners and firming up the feel in straight line driving. However, while I saw some improvement on the Genesis, it's suspension IMO was much tighter to begin with already and I also had installed at the same time a top end Strut Tower brace on the Sonata so my assessment of the collars included that improvement also. The Genesis improvement was mainily in the higher speed aggressive cornering behavior of the car.
