  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Road or wind noise entering the cabin, might have a fix

Keeping your door seals moist will help prevent this from happening, and extend their life. Every 3 or 4 months I clean them all with mild soap & water (Dawn), let dry a day, then hit them with a rag and vaseline. Rub it in so it gets absorbed. by the time you get around the car you can go around again and wipe off the excess. Don't forget the trunk and hood seals too.

definitely notice wind noise on the driver side around the mirror area... I travel I 95 to and from work and its pretty relevant and just drove to Orlando over the weekend. The cabin is still really quiet and i'm still happy with the vehicle...

I believe vasoline is a petroleum product and would not be good for those rubber based seals....use a silicon based product only

My wind noise problem seems to be coming from the passenger side. Since I do most of the driving, my wife is the one who says that the noise seems to be coming from around the side view mirror area on her side. I have taped the outside of the door around that area, but it didn't seem to make any difference, so I haven't been able to convince my dealer of the problem as yet.

I agree. DO NOT USE Vaseline on any part of the car. Modern rubbers and plastic are destroyed by Vaseline. I have learnt this by hard experience. For example, I lubricated the coolant tank plastic filler cap on a Ford, and the cap swelled so I could hardly undo it. I go around the seals regularly with the rubber/plastic cleaner that is silicone based (I think).

glycerin or liquid paraffin? is this a good idea to treat the seals with?

The rubber will be petroleum based and any other petroleum based product may act as a solvent or change the material's characteristics. Vaseline is a petroleum product and so is paraffin. I'd stick to silicon products. I'm not a chemist, so my knowledge is based more on experience.

I've been using vaseline on my MR2 Turbo for the past 15 years and the seals still look okay. I wouldn't use it on a new car that still had warranty tho.

The material used then may have been the older type where Vaseline would not do any harm. Yeas ago I used Vaseline a lot on my car. Modern materials are different.

DIAGNOSTIC TIP:

I have wind noise from the driver's-side window. My dealer adjusted the window seal, but did not replace it. It did fix it that day but within a few days of use the wind noise was back. I will take it back in.
I can offer one diagnostic tip. On my window, if I lowered the window just a bit, the wind noise would stop.

Hi everyone,

New to the forum. Have the same NOISE issue in my 2015. First, I thought it might go out of the roof. But after reading the posts here, the problem might be really in the front door. Blizer, did you solve your issue with the dealer?

Also, my roof rubber doesn't seem to be in place. Dealer declined to do smth about it since they were not sure. Photos attached. 20180807_191231.webp20180807_182039.webp20180807_191201.webp

That is out of place. Have them look at the roof on any Sonata or Genesis on their lot with the pano roof and have them tell you that's normal.

Great advice. Thanks! I will do, and keep updated.

Specifically which door seal? There are several.
One on the door that is somewhat thick, and should compress against the door jamb, others that are smaller and stiffer out to the edges of the door, etc..

Hi,

I have an appointment with the car dealer on Monday regarding the "wind-noise-issue-front-door". Could you please help with more specifics: how should I properly explain the issue because otherwise I know how the technicians will act -- they will open the door, look at the rubber isolation and state that it's OK.

Thanks!

Anyone have anything to offer on the last sentence above? Describes my issue exactly.

I recently purchased a 2015 3.8 and experienced a wind noise which sounded like the drive window was not completely closed. I have had 2 weather strips replaced to no avail. In between replacing the two sealing strip appointments, I was in Home Depot and came across some rubber car door sealer strips. I lined the outer frame of my car door with it and that seemed to do the trick. The key are for me was the corner area around where the driver side mirror is located. My car is black so no one notices the "Home Depot" car parts. Maybe I'll take a photo of what I did and post it to this thread.

When I had this problem I cleaned the inside of the window seals really well. Fixed it.

Btw,

When at 40-> I can hear serious noise from the front of the sunroof -- is it normal?

Same here....lots of wind noise from drivers door. Dealer said its normal...

Dealer is wrong. My Genesis is as quiet as a tomb!
