If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So, I have recently noticed that it seemed my front camera was always dirty, and this summer we had a ton of rain so it made sense and I never really looked closely at the camera. But now our September has been nice and dry and my car has stayed clean, and I noticed I still didn't have a clear view. Example (hard to see in the pic, but there are a bunch of blurry looking spots):

So I finally looked at the actual camera thinking it needed a better clean, and it turns out it has a ton of little rock chips in it:

You can not clean that off. I am going to bring this up at my next service, but wondering if anyone else has had this issue or had it repaired?

Maybe, never tried just thinking out loud, the headlight restore kits?

Or maybe a plastic polish.; jewlers rouge on a buffing wheel at low speed.

yes, had the issue on my Lexus. so for the g80 I had some clear 3M film put over it when they did the hood, fascia, mirror, fenders. etc.

I noticed this weekend it is looking a bit worn, damn semi-trucks on the highway always kicking up crap. I will peel and rewrap this weekend.

I noticed a small chip on my front camera as well. I should ask if my dealer could replace it... Then maybe I could cover it in PPF or something.

Since this is my first car with a front view camera I was worried if this could happen, highways here are full of trucks loaded with construction materials spilling everything behind them. I will check mine in the morning.

Have the same issue from 1 rock/mark (2018). Wonder if it has to be calibrated if you the replace the camera yourself. Plexiglass polish by hand was ineffective. Do come back with dealer report if possible. thx b

This was my hope. I will say that the headlight lens restore kits chemically soften the plastic to allow easier repair and then are re-stabilized.

It's drastic and may make the whole thing worse but if the lens is near gone may be worth a shot.

Well I will definitely bring it up at my 40,000km service which will be next month. I will report back with how it goes. Right now I am hoping they will replace and I will then add a film that I assume will need to be replace at least every spring since we have a lot of sand/gravel on the roads in the winter up here in the north. :(

I just had my car's first valet service at my jerk dealership. When they came to pick up the car I mentioned it to the guy, and he said he'll ask if it's covered. Later the service manager called me and told me everything was done and the driver was on his way back, I then asked her about the rock chip on the front camera... She starts going off about how expensive it is to replace, yada yada, so I asked her again if it's covered under warranty, and then she says no.

I'm to the point where I don't trust anything this dealership says now.

Waiting patiently for hear what everyone else experiences in terms of warranty coverage on this thing.

In the meantime, anyone know where to get some PPF for it?

She's the service manager. It all goes through her.

At this point I'm not even gonna waste my time with that dealership anymore. I'll just call Bend. Those guys are what Genesis dealers should be.

Why would you expect warranty coverage? Is your windshield under warranty if a rock hit it?

Not expecting anything, though it never hurts to ask.

Thing is I've had a lot of problems with my dealer, so it's difficult to trust anything they say. Just sharing my experience, and I'm curious to see if others get the same or a different answer.

My car came with the "extra 3M film" option. I wonder if there is one on the camera.....

You would think that knowing it going to be subject chipping on the front they would have used stronger glass, that or make the outer cover replaceable.

I’m going to put some 3M film on mine. I have a small roll from another project.

Done. 14mm socket and cut around it and little bit of window cleaner to help position it and get the air bubbles out, heat gun (or hair dryer) it down. Couple bubbles in it but those will disappear after a while doesn’t seem to affect the visual on the camera whatsoever.

Nice work! It looks good.

Thanks. Wish I had a hole punch that size which is actually 3/4“ o.d. It would have been a cleaner cut.

Maybe I’ll find a hole punch and start making these.

I wonder what people would pay for one. They could send a a SASE and $2 cash and you send one back. $3 for 2

McMaster-Carr

^ Under $20. I buy a lot of hard to find stuff from them, they always have good stuff too.

I wonder if that lens is actually hard plastic, the pitting would suggest it is. If so, it could be wet sanded and polished back into good condition. Then put a cover on it.
