  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

We just bought a 2012 Genesis sedan Rspec 5.0 about 3 weeks ago. We took it in Monday to San Tan Hyundai in Gilbert AZ to have the oil changed and the rear diff serviced. We have about 1500 miles on it. I have always liked changing the oil and diffs early on to get any metal and particles out. The service guy called today and says they refuse to service the diff because they don't have the oil and it is not due until 50K miles. I said what do you do when one comes in that has 50K miles and he said they have never done a rear diff service on a genesis sedan. So is it unreasonable to ask to have something like this done. I am obviously going to be looking for a new service source, it just does not make sense, maybe its overkill but if i want to pay for it why would they not want to do it. I know i should just do it myself but i did not have time and we already had more miles on it than i wanted to have before doing it. Anyway jsut wondering if anyone has run into this or what other owners are doing about rear diff service.

The Genesis doesn't call for any differencial service for 60,000 miles (at least the 4.6) and the manual actually says to "inspect" the fluid. Doesn't specify to actually change it. I'm not surprised your dealer does not have the fluid since the Genesis is still somewhat new, but they should be able to get it in if you are requesting to have the differencial drained and refilled. I checked with my dealer and they charge $74.99 for this service. Sounds like they have the fluid:)

the 5.0 says it doesn't need changing or 80k under severe service, but I get why you want to change it. People have had the same issue with the AFT fluid. You can try an independent BMW repair facility and see if they will do it for you as a lot of the fluids used are the same for BMW as they are for Genesis.

I guess i am old school, i always like draining and filling the diffs on all of my vehicles early. There are always metal flakes in there on the first change. The Genesis has a drain plug on the rear diff making this an easy service, I will just do it myself. I think the issue is that they have never had to deal with a rear diff at all prior to the Genesis. We also have a rattle in the headliner that we have taken in twice for and is still not fixed. I am pretty sure its the passenger side vanity light. If you hold it the rattle stops. It goes back today and they better fix it this time. Thanks for the comments and info.

The dealers should have plenty of experience with rear diff's considering how many Tucsons, Sante Fe's, and Veracruz' they've sold, plus other non-Hyundai vehicles that come in for service.
