However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Hey Guys,

I have a 2011 Genesis 3.8 with 61000 miles. The back right passenger side seat belt will not clamp together. I was wondering if anyone know if this would be covered under warranty?

Thanks

If it is not under warranty, and you are even basically handy with the toolbox, replacing a rear seat belt latch is very easy. Typically no special tools are needed, and the rear seat base snaps in and out. Worst case scenario, it is probably just the cost of the part.

I assume you're not trying to put the belt into the center seat belt latch, right? I only ask because I about drove myself crazy once trying to figure out why the belt wasn't latching trying to get my kid buckled in. Yep, I was using the center latch which won't close on anything other than the center belt.

I'll wager this is the problem!

i would say it is a safety thing. i would expect hyundai should be able to replace it for you for free. its a government regulation im pretty sure that all seatbelts are in proper working order. If its the manufacturer defect it should be covered if not under warranty because of a safety hazard. i had an issue with my honda accord and the passanger air bag light will not activate when a person is sitting in the seat. honda said it was a safety issue and i didnt have to pay for it. i would assume a seatbelt that doesnt work should be considered in the same category.

I'm pretty sure, by law, seatbelts are a warrantee forever item for all cars (I'm not 100% Positive though).

It should be fixed for free if they inspect it and find it was a part failure. If your dog chewed it or it broke from something like that, then you'll probably have to pay for it.

Before I would do much of anything else, I would use some compressed air and clean out the buckle. Probably something in it.

Once had a back seat passenger trying to plug the belt into the wrong latch also.

Yeah, I'm not putting it in the center buckle lol. I do wish that was the problem though. The center buckle is on the left side behind the driver seat. The right passenger seat buckle is what I am having trouble with. It will not go all the way in and it feels like it is jam or something. It just will not snap.

Well I'm going to check with the service center. I'm just not sure what is covered under warranty. I have an extended 100,000 mile warranty that normally ends at 60,000. So I'll see. *crosses fingers*

*****Update*****

So I called the dealership and thee Service Sales Consultant told me that I was out of warranty like some have said. I think its only covered to 60K. He told me to take the car up there to take a look at it. Well after he looked and played around with it for about 5 mins, he told me he will contact Hyundai for goodwill assistance and it will cover the cost to fix the buckle.

I'm going to the dealership Saturday morning for them to repair it for free. I never had this to every happen to any car that I ever had, but at least Hyundai is taking car of it. =)

That is an excellent story. I have had a few items on my prior cars covered under a goodwill warranty. It is a powerful indication of the support that the North American operations has for the individual dealers.

For example (and this is solely my opinion based on personal and close friend and relative experiences): Mercedes has very good NA support and is the most free to offer good will warranty work, BMW is second, and Audi is a very distant 3rd. Honda is OK-- probably between BMW and Audi. Volvo is a turd. No experience with any US brand or Toyota or Nissan.

What that means is that when you have a real issue with a part that the N/A operation deems is probably not up to snuff, but got through the warranty period, us owners will have a much better ownership experience. With an Audi, you really had to beat up the dealership, and the local franchise dealers typically paid because Audi NA turned their backs on issues.
