  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I was wondering if anyone else has noticed that the steering wheel position changes from what gets stored in memory. For clarification, when my wife uses the car, she hits number 2 to get her seat and steering wheel settings. When I get back into the car and hit number 1 to get my seat and steering wheel settings, my steering wheel telescopes to the right spot, but it does not tilt to where I had preset it. Has anyone else experienced this? Something weird happens because when I fix the preset, I can go back and forth between 1 and 2 and I can't replicate it. It seems to happen over a period of time...and is sporadic in nature.

p.s. I'll say it before anyone else does....yes, I know the solution to this problem is to not let my wife drive the car! Unfortunately, thats not going to happen....:(

I have noticed a similar problem; sporadically, my steering wheel settings will seem to vanish, and I have to reset the driver 1 setting.

I've also noticed, as I suspect everyone else has, that the seat immediately ceases moving into the preset position if I put my hand on the gearshift in preparation of moving out of park and into reverse. That took my by surprise; my Acura continued to set itself in the driver 1 position whether the car was in park, neutral, reverse, or drive. It's not a flaw or anything--just a different way of doing things--but I'd prefer it if the car returned to its preset position regardless of gear. As it is now, if I forget and shift before it's finished, I have to stop, put the car back into park, and then press the button to return to the preset position.

This sounds like an issue Hyundai needs to look into.. I'm moving this discussion into the Issues forum.

As for the seat no longer moving after going into gear - it's a safety feature. If the settings are absolutely terrible, they could cause you to get into an accident. This is one of those "better safe than sorry" scenarios that Hyundai had to set into affect - to avoid all the lawsuits that WOULD certainly follow otherwise. Ever since some moron sued McDonalds for coffee that was too hot, EVERYONE is on the defensive these days...

I've had this issue as well, but got over it rather quickly. For me, it only moves about 1/4 of an inch. When I sit, i like the top number of the tach. and speedo. to be just visible. When I push #2 (which is me) the wheel sets itself about a 1/4 - 1/5 above my preset. I fixed it occasionally with a bump of the button but I dont even fool with it now.

You must be tall like me! (6'1") I'm always having to adjust steering wheels that were designed for short people. I'm just glad on this car there is an adjustment because for a lot of cars, that means I can barely read the speedo at all.

NO, NO, NO...the solution is to make your wife #1 :D

I am having the same issue and wondering if my wife might have been changing the setting. This will now go on my list for the 3750 mile checkup.

I have the same problem with the seat/wheel position..AND I AM THE ONLY DRIVER OF THE CAR. Took it in to get checked. They said they could not duplicate the problem!!
Some times it happens after 10 starts somes times after 15, sometimes after 6. It is random. If any one gets a clue on the fix, please advise us.....

I think you will find ALL the Genesis' lose their memory presets regularly. It's a fact of life. Just have to live with it !:(

My past 2004 Nissian Murano kept it's memory for 5years, 70,000 miles. Never errored even once! So it's hard to "live with it" after a couple of thousand miles. Sounds like something a service writer would say.

It's gotta be a gremlin (hopefully not GMC) in the Genny

Mine does this too! I wen't for about two weeks where nearly about 75% of the times I started the car my steering would not come out to the programmed extension. Everything else would adjust to where I programmed it. If I then pushed the #1 button, it would come out. On rare occasions it wouldn't come out even after pushing the button and I'd have to do it manually and reprogram button #1. Now this week it never messes up. We'll see what happens next week.

OBTW...no wife driving my car. She loves her Tucson.

During the first 1000 miles, I had occasional problems with the seat and wheel presets, including being pinned against the steering wheel a couple of times when I shut down the car. Strangely, it seems to have fixed itself. I'm past 5000 miles now and there hasn't been a problem in the last 4000 miles.

Mine has done the same thing since new. I'll just live with it before I'd let my local Elanta mechanics try to fix it.

There's a whole thread about this... and pages 9 & 10 have a work-around for some model year cars: Tilt Telescopic Steering Wheel - Page 9.

Moving the shift lever out of Park freezes the seat and steering wheel positions... so wait until they finish whatever motion they're doing as part of the "easy access" that happens on engine start-up or shut-down before shifting. That was catching a few folks... but others had real issues with the steering wheel not moving through its normal full range. Apparently something gets out of sync between the steering wheel and the control module. I suggested using the tilt/telescope button to move the steering wheel all the way in and down and then HOLD the tilt/telescope button in & down for an additional ten seconds or so - as a way to perhaps re-sync the module. It seems to have worked for a few folks. It was also recently reported that Hyundai now has a new module that supposedly cures these issues - but it's not a recall or TSB for everybody - just those that have been experiencing/complaining about these problems.

My 2010 Genesis has the same issues with the settings. I also need to have the seat switch replaced, as moving the seat forward is difficult.

Does anyone know if any "go faster " parts have been made for the Genny yet.
