  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Sedan Rear Bumper Chrome insert crack

Have a 2012 White Genesis Sedan 5.0 with same issue. Paint was peeling from top of rear bumper but perfect everywhere else on the car. Good body-shop wants from $700 to $900 to respray. My dealer wouldn't help at first but agreed to pay half the repair using a portable bumper repair contractor who goes around to all the dealers in town. I was very skeptical but watched him do the work and it came out perfectly. Can't tell it was ever repaired and it only cost me $200. (I actually don't think the dealer paid half. I think you can get it done for $200 to $300 by outfits like this.)

The pearl white paint is a 3 stage paint. White, pearl, then clear coat. I do a little spraying myself but it would probably cost upwards of $200 to get the materials from a paint supply store and I would have never blended it as well as he did. This contractor mixed it onsite with a computer reference system. Really slick!

Also have a cracked chrome strip. Already have the replacement and will be fitting tomorrow. Think the biggest PITA is getting the trim out of the trunk. I hope to be able to just pull one side of the cover back to do the job. I will post my results.

Resurrecting this thread as it's related to my question…

The right rear bumper outer molding (I think part #86686-3M500) likes to "pop-out" a bit from time to time. The attached pic shows the seam that pops — unfortunately I pushed it back in before taking this rainy day pic.

From the images shared by 2010V6Tech (and another I'd found on eBay), I assume this molding is affixed by bolts from inside — and am curious if it may have loosened or the threads of the bolt lost their grip (hence popping out over time).

Has anyone who has removed these offer advice — i.e., to get to the (assumed) bolt at this particular seam, can I do it only by removing the tail lamp?

I hope this makes sense. My technical writing skills leave a bit to be desired.

Sincere thanks for any insights… Cheers!

That piece of trim is part of the bumper cover and not called out individually in my manual. Which tells me that you'll need to remove the bumper cover in order to deal with it. Probably worth a trip to a local body shop and an hour or so of labor for them.

Thanks Gunkk… Appreciated!

But drat! I was hoping it would be more accessible — or at least wish it had been a piece of filigree held by trim clips. Is it just me, or does the way the rear bumper bling is pieced together seem over-engineered? Could it have been one piece — or is it this way to allow some stress-flexing?

The local shop that takes care of 'The G' specializes in Eastern imports and has as a master technician with years with Hyundai experience. As it's a minor, non-mechanical nitpick, I'll either have them assess on its next service — or if it really drives me nuts, follow your lead with a favorite body shop.

Now back to more important things… whatever those might be.

Cheers!
