Shimmying/Shaking Over 60 MPH

Vibration update: Went to dealer where they performed a road force balance on all four wheels. Took a test drive and eureka, problem solved, no vibration at all. All this was completed within two hours while I waited and was covered under warranty. On a side note, the service Mgr rolled his eyes when I said tires were Continentals.

Bingo! I had all that cockamamie mess done to my car and it really didn't help. Mostly I get a smooth ride. There are those vibing rides as well. Will see if there's a difference when I finally get new tires.

i put a deposit down on a 2018 g90 5.0 ultimate with 28K but i read all of this thread and it scares me. some people have solutions and some fought to have a buy back of their car. so im at a loss what to do. love the car but cannot get involved in all the stress and money spent i just read about. i have just one car and my local mechanic 3 blocks away will be working at the car. even if i wanted genesis dealers they are 50 min away and i dont have a second car to drive for weeks on end while it's in the shop.

i did not go on the highway to drive but rest assured ill at least do that when i go back in 2 weeks. but then what if theres no vibration. doesnt mean it wont happen. ugh. so has anyone actually known about this issue and bought the car anyway? you regret it?

21 G90, no issues until about 12K miles. Then a vibration above 60ish started. Dealer performed a road force balance on tires. No more vibration. All under warranty. Hope that helps.

i appreciate the first hand experience but the more i google the more i realize i cant get the car. even car and driver couldnt solve their issue. and reading what people have gone thru on brand new cars under warranty was scary. i cant be giving up my car for days /weeks while my local shop tries to get something fixed if i even did buy the extended warranty on the used car. my 14 impala except for transmissions is extremely reliable . but if trans breaks you pay for new and its fixed..for sure! (i just dont wanna pay that right now which is why i want another car)

with the g90 reports there is NO single definite fix and im of the age i cannot mess around with troubleshooting and being carless while it's done. im very disheartened actually and sad after reading all this. the car is so darn nice!

cant get the car out of my mind so put your magic 8 ball on

after what mileage would you assume the vibration will not start if it hasnt already?

also at what mileage would you not buy a g90 due to high repair or maintenance costs?

for the fun of it i started widening my search area and also included turbo which i did not before. i see at least 2 g90s with no mention of anything that i deem suspicious (2 alignments in 2 months etc) . one has 37K on and is the premium but i could do without ultimate. its a 2019 3.3 and carshop says 5 day money back guarantee and lifetime engine ( i realize thats never gonna happen though).

Find one owner cars. Carfax should show only proper maintenance. You don’t want issues. Test drive the car or pay an independent contractor to do a full inspection. With a 2019 and newer there should be some original factory warranty left. Depends on in service date. The only way to get your questions answered is to drive the car. Every car has its issues. Not just a G90. Nothing is perfect.

Get the Ultimate. If you don’t, you will always regret it. Lots on the 5.0 that the turbo doesn’t have.

i have no issue with imperfect cars and if you told me that X car was known for X going wrong and it will cost 2000 for it to be fixed, i think thats great. you know the risk of part X going. but one guy replaced his steering rack, one did his rotors and brakes, one did manual moving of each brake piston until he got them all to free up. and the list goes on. some people got new tires and it was fixed. others spent thousands and never got it fixed. the unknown fix is what drives me crazy. i cant be doing all that, would drive me nuts and i cannot afford replacing a steering rack!

ill def test drive on the highway any car i buy. and get my mechanic to check it out. but thing is, if it doesnt shimmy that day, what are the odds that it will do it in the future. thats the magic question i NEED the answer to but there is no source for that info apparently. except some kind of poll. plus i believe based on what ive read that no mechanic can really find this problem upon inspection.

here are more facts which really skew the results now. assuming they are true then g90 is a super super small population out there. so if i read 30 owners on this forum had the issue that really is a significant number to me. or you could say 970 out of 1000 do not have the problem so your odds are good? question drives me crazy.

going a quick google one article says its pretty much just the back seat stuff that id lose. which admit literally never will be used. discounting back seat comforts what would i lose?

You need to sit in and drive both. That would be the best way to minimize your risk in buying the wrong model.

Not sure your point on yearly car sales, but I assume 22 went down on anticipation of 23 redesign and lack of inventory.

if i find 30 valid stories on this forum about shimmy issues and i know there were only 2000 cars sold, thats a much bigger deal than if i read 30 stories on here about a honda accord having the serious issue.

oh i know i love the ultimate but in my area (meaning 50 miles away) there are very very few g90 of any kind. i even expanded the area to 100 miles and it's just the one ultimate. i cant buy the white one i drove the other day because of the carfax. but am looking at a 2019 3.3 with 37K miles for 37K. which to me seems a lot higher than that 2018 with 24K miles for 36K. paying more for 50% more miles seems crazy to me. but this 2019 has no flags on carfax at least. see below. i do worry about turbo costing more to fix though. i do know the maintenance is higher. i read the manual.

I have a '21 G90 (TTV6) and the car DOES, 100% shimmy and shake as you go over 55 to 70. I haven't done anything about it, the last I read switching out the tires to another model might be the best way to go, but I'll be doing that next year.

2018 G90 TWIN TURBO, no vibration with off-brand tires installed by 1st owner.

I am not sure if this was posted however, attached is the TSB for how to balance tires.

I do not think that Genesis would be selling vehicles with a known steering wheel shimmy for years without addressing it. I suspect that a proper balance will fix a vast majority of the cases.

In my opinion...the V8 is smoother, and the MPG difference is negligible.
While the 5.0 was only a $2500 option ..it seems to bring more than that difference is resale over the 3.3TT

Keep in mind with Carfax
If the vehicle was originally leased...as a lot of the G90's were....if the owner bought the lease out it will show as an additional owner, though technically the car never changed hands.

it's nice to see there is a potential solution but i wonder, after re reading the thread, why the people went to such extremes as replacing steering racks, drive shafts etc etc. some had success. some not. and genesis agreed to even buy back a few cars. also since it's such a long drive to a genesis dealer the logistics of dealing with the issue just seem excessive to me as i have no other car to drive while its in the shop, if it needs to be.

the car i looked at 2 weeks ago went down 2K so i guess they really want to get rid of it.

also i looked at an older S550 but after researching how much just normal maintenance and repairs are on it, decided against it.
