  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Shimmying/Shaking Over 60 MPH

is a newer..or new g80 considered immune from this shimmy? according to the genesis site a g80 is just 589 on lease which i can definitely do. but it's a bit less than 1 hour to the closest dealer so i wanted to do research before considering going.

other dealer has an older one, i think 2020 but unsure if that shares the same platform as the g90 with the issues in this thread

So... after reading page after page...

Is there a "guaranteed" fix for this problem...?

Have you test driven a G90 and know for certain you even like the vehicle?

if there was, even if it was a few K, id have bought the used g90 i literally had a deposit on and ready to buy. it just wasnt cleaned up so they needed it a few more days. then i came home, read this thread, and others, and told the guy i want my money back. carfax indicated many alignments and tire issues. it's a shame really because it was the car i liked the most. even over the old S550 i drove.

i researched and found some people had an ez fix and were happy, others had their car bought back. i cant take the risk. wound up with a lexus. not an exciting as g90, but you know it wont have that kind of issue.

I've been fortunate with my 2 Genesis cars, but not everyone can say the same. Enjoy your Lexus.

What Lexus did you buy?

I assume an LS460?..is so what year?

they had a used ls500 and i peeked in the window but 56K was too much for me. so i settled on a practical car. es 350. i went for reliable, cheap to fix. about the same HP as my impala 3.6L but seems a tad faster probably because you have better visibility. it's a bit shorter and lower and definitely sportier. in a few years of genesis gets rid of the shimmy issue id def consider it again. also this dealer is 30 min from me yet will valet me another car to drive while they give me the next 4 maintenances, gave me cpo unlimited warranty till mid 2028, and other things i probably forgot lol.

Care to expound on the long answer? :)
Dont have a long answer....though it seems some people had issues based on owners reports
I dont have the issue and have no first hand knowledge, but clearly some have.
For a vehicle that has not sold in larger numbers, I can understand a prospective buyer having concerns on a few reported issues.

This might sound strange...

But can the G90's hollow wheels be ruled out as the cause?

yes had deposit on 2018 ultimate till i read this forum. then got it back. no way with that car fax would i buy the car.

also for those not sure the 2021 and newer definitely has a new platform. to me in this news release they basically admitted there was a problem with the old ones. and maybe once a g90 gets down to my price range in a few years ill get one. i sat in new 70 and 80 and found them nice but i admit the screen was a tad far to reach and i loved the 18 g90 just overall better so i think the other 2 would be too small for me. as a temp car i have a lexus which should hold its value for a few years pretty decently.

The G80's rear-drive unibody structure has 6% greater tensile strength than that of the previous G80, thanks in part to increased use of high-strength steel and hot stamped parts ( 42% more hot stamped parts than previous.) They make up the A- and B-pillars, floor crossmembers as well as rocker panels and provide the highest possible strength through hot forming and quenching processes.

The roof crossmembers, transmission tunnel, front chassis extensions and parts of the rear structure are made of advanced high-strength steel, while the cowl, floor panels and rear parcel shelf are comprised of high-strength steel. As a result of this material placement and optimization strategy, the G80's M3 platform is 6% lighter than that of the previous G80 (55 lbs less).

A newly added horizontal strut brace, die-cast aluminum front and rear shock towers, and a rear subframe benefiting from rear stays and increased bushing size, further enhance rigidity and improve NVH characteristics. Organic geometry was used during the design iteration process to leverage the efficiencies of nature and obtain the lightest and strongest possible structure.

As a result of the careful design and material choices, torsional rigidity of the new model surpasses the outgoing car by 3%

I'm a pretty intelligent guy (I am sure some would disagree).

But I cannot find where Genesis "basically admitted there was a problem" with the G90 2017-2020.

And even then, the article is about the G80.

He is assuming that since they made a change, it must be because something was wrong.
He is completely ignoring that the changes were made to support the weight of the electric option that is now available.

This problem shouldn't be a fundamental design issue or else every G90 would exhibit it. No problems after 70K miles on mine.

So did you actually test drive a G90?

I dont see how that new release relates to a G90?
