Almost $500 here in Indiana between the yearly excise tax and wheel tax, just to then pay to register your car.
That makes sense, I remember paying ~$400 a year for a 1977 Datsun 200SX in 1980 and STILL charging me out of state tuitionYes, used to be more than double the tax rate in Indiana.. Plus ridiculous low depreciation rate that would have 10 years cars taxed at almost half original list price.

Thats crazy!! You have to pay that every year?!?! Does it go down, once the value of the car goes down??

You all should understand you own no property anymore. Only license it revocable.. And pay annual license fee like you would software. Never own it..altos is but one example of no property ownership. One of the big planks (there are ten) of the communist manifesto. If alive today, our founding fathers would have hung millions of .gov warrior employees and leaders by now for high war crimes against them.
Neo, you are a slave.
Fixed that for ya...If they were alive today, many of our founding fathers would be hanged for that little thing called slave ownership.

No way. Its the upfront tax. 8% Not recurring.
I know about the upfront sales tax, but they are saying its property tax. Which is paid every year??

I pay property taxes yearly but it has nothing to do with my car. Its based on home value.
Yes, everyone pays home property tax. But they are talking about property tax on cars??
Probably because most people in NYC don't own a car, and even wealthy people in NYC may only own one car (registered in that state). The cost of renting a parking spot for a car in NYC is usually more than car payments.I was just pointing out that i live in NY state and I don't pay that tax yearly. I have never heard of it. Just sales tax up front on the purchase.
The Commonwealth of Virginia welcomes you. Now, please pay your damn taxes!
