As per consumer reports survey - Genesis / Hyundai / Kia (all same manufacturer) took the top 3 spots in 2018 Best Car survey.
That says a lot on the reliability of Genesis / Hyundai brand .

Cant believe Honda is that low and that too under likes of Dodge, Chevrolet. But Genesis brand is growing and even US news has it ranked 2nd after 5 series in luxury mid size cars.

Going to save this. Thank you.

I am looking for 2016 3.8 V6 which is more than enough power for me.
And I thought it was just Nissan CVT tranyy's which were bad and not the Infinite ones which runs into these issues. Glad to know.
I will check the cost to replace the parts and see which one makes more sense.

Thanks
I am taking about the Nissan engines which are in the Infiniti cars. Many Nissan engines become oil burners and smoke after 100k miles due to piston ring issues. Infiniti transmissions are pretty good if the owner change the fluid.

ok got you. Thank you.

Here, all models dont come with heated steering wheel. Will make sure of that.

Wish key fob had remote start through Hyundai instead of third party and Canadian cars for some reason cant use Bluelink.
Yes remote start on Bluelink seems hit and miss many times

To the OP, only you can tell if you can afford any of these cars. There are just too many unknowns for us to offer a yes or no. Things like family health issues, job security, etc, only you know. If all the cars you listed cost about the same, it would just come down to what you like, and can you bear the cost of the ownership. What kind of MPG ( or KPG/L ) does each average? Do any REQUIRE premium fuel? I know the Genesis gives the option of REGULAR.

From my own perspective....I usually buy good cars that last. I drive them until the wheels are about to fall off. However, it doesn't take too long before the thrill is gone & they become just transportation. That has not been the case with our Genesis ( 2015 5.0 tech ). We've had it just at 3 years and I still love driving the car. I still get in it and just go for a drive, with no destination in mind. I just like driving it. It has given us zero issues. The only expenses have been routine maintenance, insurance & fuel.

Hey ,

MPG doesnt matter much as I have been driving V6 engine for my 10 year driving history and gives same mileage as Genesis. And Acura, Infiniti requires Premium fuel But didnt know that genesis could take regular fuel as well. Good to know.

I have been driving Audi A4 for last 6-7 years and has almost 170k kms on it and its time to sell even though I love driving this car. Its just it is getting older now.
Good to know that regular oil changes would be good enough for the upkeep of this car.

All that is left is to test drive the car now.

Did you get any third party remote started installed ?
And does it void any kind of warranty?

What difference do you feel in driving genesis vs A4?
I have a V6 A4 and it fells very responsive and sporty while driving.
Is it the same of different?

And cant wait to be a king. lol
Did you buy extra warranty? If yes, then how much did it cost?

This is my 3rd Genesis (09 V6, 12 V8, 15 V8) and all were the top models. Only issues with the first two were the backup camera and stereo head units being replaced. Current model experienced an AWD Transfer Case failure @ 55000km so it and the associated computers were replaced. Not something common so probably a fluke. Bought 3.5yrs ago as a demo unit and overall has been problem free. I do my own oil changes so it hasn't ever been to my local dealer (AWD repair was done while South in Florida last fall at a Genesis Dealer) and I hope to keep it that way. They're ok, but they have very limited experience with GenII Genesis sedans.
I like the current model the most of the three that I've owned and plan to keep it beyond the 5yr 100000km warranty. Currently doing some research on extended warranty pricing. So far, Hyundai has quoted $4300 for an additional 5yrs/100000km warranty which sounds kinda rich to me - and they have to inspect the car for an additional fee to see if it needs any repairs first (even brakes/tires). Looking for other options because I'm not sure if I want to chance going further without a full warranty. Repairs for major items (and they all seem kind of major) are a bit scary with all higher end vehicles.

This is not correct, the rankings are from the JD Power Initial Quality Study. It is based on the first 90 days of ownership which may or may not carry over to long term reliability.

$4300 sounds pretty steep to me as well. Maybe talk to other dealers as well and see if they can offer a better price.

Hi there guys,

I am looking forward to replace by 2009 A4 which has been very reliable and served me well.

I have had few considerations on what car to choose based on how much I earn and other monthly expenses.

My choices are:

Acura TLX 2017/2018
Genesis 2016
Accord touring 2017
Infinity Q50 2016

I make 4.5k per month after taxes.Monthly expenses are 2k roughly right now.
leaves me with 2.5k roughly which is good enough.
All of these cars are close to 25k CAD. Would it make sense to buy a car worth this much? And how expensive could the repairs be so it doesnt break my bank.

Also, Audi would sell for 7-8k and I would use that + additional 4-5k as down payment, making loan amount close to 13-14k.

Car Insurance would range from 100 to 150 with Accord and genesis on the lower end of the spectrum.
And I drive 10,000 kms in a year which is mixed of highway/city.

Thanks for reading.

I was between a brand new Honda Accord Touring or a 2015 Genesis 3.8 AWD Ultimate. The Accord Touring is a great car, almost a sports sedan and certainly more sporty than the Genesis, plus it would be brand new. In the end I decided on the Genesis and am extremely happy with my decision. Much bigger car, much more luxury, etc.

I am almost taking out the Accord out of picture. Left with TLX, Genesis and lexus GS.

Did you also consider the Lexus ES? If I remember right, the GS is a little smaller and has more of a sport-oriented suspension while the ES is a luxury cruiser like the Genesis.

The only reason I didn't get the ES is the adaptive cruise control. The ES cruise control cuts out somewhere around 25 mph while the Genesis easily handles stop-and-go traffic.

I was considering ES but no AWD in those so dropped the plan. IS350 is too small of a car so not considering that as well. Have to test drive each of them and see if the newer Acura tlx outweighs the year older genesis or lexus. I am like 70% sure on buying Genesis but you never know.

The Honda will be the most reliable and still have a factory warranty. The Acura and infinity will cost the most to maintain. The Genesis will be the most fun to drive, be fairly reliable and get you into an entry level luxury car.
My Genesis ( 2015 3.8 sedan) has been very reliable and every bit as much a luxury vehicle as the above mentioned vehicles and BMW and Mercedes in its class.
