  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

side mirrors not folding in. what to do?

First thing I would do is check the settings on the mirror switches. Easy to bump them accidently and turn that feature off.
Folding/Unfolding the side view
mirror
The side view mirror can be folded or
unfolded by pressing the switch
when:
Left (1) : The mirror will unfold.
Right (2) : The mirror will fold.
Center (AUTO) :
The mirror will fold or unfold automatically
as follows:
- The door is locked or unlocked by
the smart key.
- The door is locked or unlocked by the
button on the outside door handle.

Thank you, it worked.

Resurrecting this thread — admittedly in hopes of a Hail-Mary end zone score.

The 2013 Genesis 3.8 I'm considering has (both) power folding mirrors that no longer live up to their name. As with others who have had this issue, you can hear the motors working, but also the telltale "ticking" that is likely the sinister sound of a worn/broken plastic gear.

I really appreciate the very detailed post and several equally detailed DIY videos, but

Confession: I'm not certain I have the confidence or courage to undertake the removal, disassembly, and repair of the mirrors. In this case, I would rather not "learn by breaking" — i.e., respecting my limits rather than testing them. Yes, sad, I know.

I am hoping a fellow forum member—ideally one reasonably close to Richmond, VA or the VA region and with experience in this repair—might be willing to assist.

Please know I am NOT looking for a "freebie," but only to avoid the excessive non-warranty (dealership) cost for replacing two full mirror housings… And hey, meet a fellow Genesis owner!

Apologies if this question breaks any formal or informal rules regarding requests. Or just say "Oh, grow a pair and do it yourself." I can take it. (ha ha)

Cheers to all.

I try not to use mine... because of the little plastic gears inside inevitably will go Bye-Bye!
Is there a way to simply turn the folding/unfolding feature off on a 2015 Equus. Mine folds and unfolds, but the driver's side makes a clicking sound for about 5 seconds afterwards. Thanks.

Ed, do you know if there is a way to simply turn off the folding/unfolding feature on a 2015 Equus? Thanks for all of your answers and direction on this site. Jeff

If it is like the G80, you just hit one of the switches on the door but I'm not sure which one. I know I set mine not to fold but that was a few years ago.

Ed,
Thanks so much for your reply. Newer models do allow one to push on the left or ride side of the auto fold/unfold button on the door panel. But unfortunately, the 2015 Equus only allows one to push down on the auto fold/unfold button. I need to check the owner's manual to see if there is a specific fuse that I can remove to disengage that feature. Have a great weekend.
Jeff

I did the metal gear swap on the driver side mirror of my 2015 5.0 and worked find for two years. Now it has stopped working again, as has the passenger side. I fear that the other plastic gear must have shredded, though I haven't opened it up to confirm. Does anyone know if there is a replacement for that, or is it time for me to go used mirror hunting?
