  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Side view mirrors holding their position

Gen 1 side view mirrors aim down when the car is put in Reverse - if the mirror adjust switch is in the "L" position, both aim down, and if the mirror adjust switch is in the "R" position, only the passenger mirror aims down. Not sure how Gen 2 mirrors compare.

However, at any rate, the issue with mirrors adjusting themselves and not holding their position is caused by faulty position sensor in the mirror which erroneously reports a needed adjustment to match memory settings. IOW, the mirror is telling the ECU that it is out of position from assigned memory settings and needs to be adjusted one way or the other. I had this issue in a previous luxury vehicle and the fix was to replace the side mirror assy.

Hope this helps!

Yes, I agree that this is the issue and should be corrected by the factory... but for someone to try and use this as qualification to return the vehicle under lemon law provisions is just crazy.

srobak is correct. This is an illustration of our culture's "entitlement pandemic". You don't NEED a car with eleventy hundred unnecessary sensors and in respecting that, state law does not need to insure your decision to buy one.

I've experienced this problem with my Geneis from day one. Mainly the passenger-side mirror not fully returning to its preset position when shifting out of reverse. I took the car to three different Hyundai dealerships. All of them said the reverse tilt-down feature was working correctly. I assured them it was NOT working correctly and I was having to manually re-adjust my passenger door mirror several times a week. I finally got sick of this issue and decided to turn off the auto tilt down feature. Go figure I was trying to parallel park into a parking space with a high curb. I wound up scraping both right side rims (custom 20" rims) because i wasn't able to properly see the curb since I didn't have the auto tilt feature on. Very frustrating!

Hmm...

I think that's a high tech option that's only available on Korean Domestic Market cars! :D

I found a tool I already had on me that turns any non-functioning automatic side mirror into a fully-functional manual side mirror.
