Has anyone found other All Season tires that are much better? -- I used to have a Lexus GS300 rear wheel drive and drove around in the snow with Michelin All Season tires. They were much better than the Dunlops on my Genesis.

I have got to say that the Genesis with the Dunlops is terrible on packed snow and ice. I know Blizzaks is the real answer, but I'm wondering if anyone had any luck with other All Seasons?
 
Just posted in another thread that I switched my OEM Dunlops with 25,000 miles on them to Goodyear Assurance TripleTreds last week. I had a little bit of trouble getting around on the OEM Dunlops last year. We haven't had that much snow in Chicago yet this year but I have noticed a difference on ice, slush and the little bit of snow we have had. I can't tell any difference on dry pavement.

Thanks for the suggestion. The only thing that bothers me a bit about these tires, is that they appear to be very 'low-profile'. With the harsher ride of the Genesis, I may lean to the Bridgestone Serenity. It does show the Continental better in snow, but the Bridgestone rates higher in Noise, Ride etc. Etc - Do the Continentals ride better than the Dunlops, as far as harsh, stiff?

Did you consider the Bridgestone Serenities? -- I've got these on my Lexus and Like them.

All tires of size 235/50/R18 are going to be the same size in all dimensions. The profile (50) will be the same between tire manufacturers. Note, there may be some minute deviation in size, but nothing noticeable.

OK, understand. -- The Tire Rack pictures of the 2 Tires is what I was looking at. Probably not accurate pictures of the actual sizes.


Bit more importantly, the ratings on Ride Comfort, Noise and dry Pavement Performance the Bridgeston Serenities seemed to have an edge on the Continentals.

Well, I will go one further. I live in the south, but recently we've had a cold snap down to 32 degrees, and the Dunlops are sliding all over the PERFECTLY DRY roads.

Compound just isn't designed for cold weather. When the weather was pegged at 95 degrees every day the tires were the stickiest I have ever had.

But I have never had dedicated summer performance tires on a car before.

By the way I, too, would lean towards the Bridgestone Serenities over the DWS contact, and give up some winter traction for the better, quieter ride. Actually, I don't need quieter, but I would like smoother.

I rode today on snow packed, icy roads and it was like I had 4 bald tires on that were pumped up to 80 pounds apiece. The worst traction I have ever seen on a car!

Edit - Just Bought 4 Bridgestone Serenities -- Will put them on tomorrow. Cost me about $1000 -- for everything including lifetime rotation and tire balance and road hazard ! - I think it was this or wreck the car!

I think you are wise to change the tires. There is no reason to risk your life in the bad weather, not worth any amount of money. I am traveling to Cleveland for X mas, and I will be driving our daughter's Passat with all-weather Michelin tires, though the Hyundai is much quieter, and more comfortable. It's just not worth buying tires for the one week a year I spend up north. But I will replace the Dunlops, when worn, with all season tires.

I don't like giving up my ride. I have 17,500 miles on my 2010 Genesis, and am almost disappointed that I have so much tread left on the Dunlops.

I am spending the winter in Amelia Island Florida, and your post made me think "What the heck am I waiting for?"

Todays drive on snow packed roads was enough for me!

Well then listen up. I wanted the Contis but they were BO so I settled for the Serenities. I can compare both since I have the continentals (same models as I linked to) on my Mercedes SL and the Serenities on the Genesis. For ride comfort and noise level, Conti all the way. Not saying the Serenities are bad, just the Contis are better. You also asked about a good performer in snow for an all season. Contis are top rated and the Serenities are poorly rated. If I had to do it again, I would wait for the Continentals to be out of BO. ;) I have dedicated winter tires for winter but then again I live in Montreal, Canada.
 
Perelli P Zero Nero are also supposed to be good all weather tires and are said to improve the ride of the Genesis.

I have the Continental DWS and it is the same profile as the Dunlop 235-50-18 the picture is of a 20" and not an 18". The picture is not a 235-50-18. The Bridgestone Serenity is another nice tire but you will get better wet and snow traction with the Continental DWS. I had the Michelin Pilot HXMX4 235-50-18 on my 2007 Lexus LS460 and like them real well, was going to put the same on the Genesis but tire dealer talked me into the Continental. I drove a Genesis loaner that had the Michelin Pilot HXMX4 235-50-18 and was quite impressed.

I took delivery of my car with the Dunlop’s for two days about 250 miles before they changed them to Michelin Sport A/S Plus. These tires are every bit as good for handling, performance, ride and comfort and in addition they are A/S and rated highly in snow although I have not driven in snow yet.

The Michelin Sport A/S is a nice tire but for some the only draw back is it is directional tire that can only be rotated front to rear and you have to be careful that they are not rotated any other way. Some people may not see this as a problem and that is ok.
