  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Yesterday I got in my car to go to work, the radio was off. I turned it on and hit the XM button on the dash. The stereo went to AM. I have re-started the car several times to no avail. I've tried the thing where you turn the car off and wait a few minutes before opening the door. I've tried disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes, that also didn't work. Has anyone else experienced this? It's as if someone re-programmed the buttons on the stereo and now XM goes to AM. I thought maybe it was a subscription issue but it just renewed and even if it was I would still be able to tune to the XM preview channel or the radio ID channel. But nope.... no matter what buttons I push XM will not turn fire up. FM/AM CD/Aux/Bluetooth and everything else works fine.

I'm hoping I don't have to replace the head unit. I'm at 76k and out of the CPO warranty for electronics unless there's a recall I don't know about. I live in Los Angeles and we have had a major heat wave the last few days so maybe that fried a solder joint somewhere? Scratching my head.....

I've searched the forums and found some people had issues with no signal and the antenna fin on the back but that doesn't seem applicable here as my antenna looks fine, the head unit just wont go to XM.

Anyone? Can anyone tell me if the head unit of the radio is what's on the dash with all the buttons or is that just a controller to a box somewhere else? Might buy one on eBay and try to swap it out.

I just realized Bluetooth no longer works either. My phone doesn't recognize the Genesis and the radio setup screen no longer offers a Bluetooth setup. WTF is going on with this car!?!?!

Sorry for your pain. Somebody here can likely steer you to a head unit supplier.

Just one more reason for everybody to buy an extended warranty. Vehicles are just too prone to electronic failures these days.

Thanks. It really does suck and I can't figure out if a radio reset will work or how to do one. Some say there's a little hole next to the cd changer you have to push but I can't find it. I don't think it's on the base model sedans. I'm not even sure if the area with the radio buttons is the "head unit" that would need to be replaced. If it is I could probably do it myself and get one off eBay for about $100 it looks like. But for all I know that's just a controller to some other box hidden under the hood or in the trunk. Cars these days are so complicated.

Just unplugged the battery from the car for over an hour...... no luck. XM button still takes the radio to the AM stations and the "setup" knob shows absolutely no bluetooth options as if they were never installed in my car in the first place. WTF!?

Cancelled my XM service today since it's pointless to have something I can't listen to..... Starting to get really frustrated with this car. About 24k to go on my 100k powertrain warranty. Might be time to trade it in for something else. We had a good run but this is getting ridiculous and thinking back on all the poor dealership experiences I've had with Hyundai who basically treat customers like idiots I think it's time for something new.
