This documents the issue I was seeing with SiriusXM (SXM) radio in my 2018 G80 3.3T Sport w/ 9.2” Touchscreen navigation system. Subsequent to my SXM Travel Link services being removed Feb. 19, 2021 the issue is resolved in my vehicle.
Current/Short term fix:
Remove/unsubscribe from SXM Travel link services.
Long term fix (my speculation):
MapnSoft will issue a DIS/NAV update that addresses the issue. Per MapnSoft website “We usually release a new map update twice a year (in March and September) or once a year (in March).” MapnSoft only produces the map/navigation data. Hyundai/Genesis or Navigation manufacturer (LG) provides the software/firmware updates to MapnSoft for distribution.
Symptom:
After starting car I switch to/play SXM radio. 5 to 10 minutes later changing channel using screen, jog or steering
wheel, screen shows channel changed, but audio remains on original SXM channel. Channels change to show "Acquiring Signal". I can switch to other sources (AM/FM, Media etc.) and sound/controls work. Attempting to switch back to XXM, sound goes away for 10 seconds, screen does not switch to SXM radio and it returns to original source (e.g. FM radio) and FM audio resumes. Stopping car for ~5 minutes w/ restart or pushing reset button in DIS/Navigation restores SMX radio channel change functionality, but issue re-occurred.
There have been reports of other issues (home screen freezing, analog clock malfunction, hair loss, incontin/impotence etc.), but I don’t believe these are related to this specific issue.
The issue started after installing v14.10 update around ~January 23, 2021. Based on current information this was coincidental and I do not believe the v14.10 updated caused the issue. I had done 4 updates previously with no issue. All updates were done using MapnSoft provided SD card. I never used the MapnSoft download to SD card method.
Root cause:
Issue appears to be related to SXM Travel link Infotainment service (weather, fuel prices, movie listings, sports scores and stocks). (IMO/Speculation) SXM made a satellite signal protocol change in January 2021 that our DIS/Navigation don't like. I hypothesize this revised satellite data stream is causing software crash in the DIS/navigation system (Android, based on my research).
I attempted the following to resolve the issue, but they did not work or only worked briefly.
- Re-ran NAV/DIS update. This did not resolve the issue.
- Reduced SXM presets to 6 from 18. Temporary/intermittent fix.
- Went to SiriusXM website and sent a Activation/signal refresh. This did not resolve the issue.
I did not attempt, but do not believe replacing DIS/NAV head unit, antenna or antenna cable will resolve this specific issue.

I logged a support ticket with MapnSoft early Feb 2021 and their initial response was take to dealer/contact manufacturer. A couple of days later they replied asking for further details. I had numerous e-mail exchanges for about 2 weeks. MapnSoft indicated it was related to SXM Data (Traffic and Travel Link) subscriptions and later narrowed it to SXM Travel Link subscription. MapnSoft indicated Hyundai/Genesis was aware of the problem and submitting requests to SXM to disable/Unsubscribe affected users from SXM Data services.
Feb 15, 2020 I contacted SMX and requested they cancel/UNSubcribe my SXM Data subscription. SXM indicated they could not. I speculate because SXM Data service was a car purchase/complimentary 3 year subscription. Others in this forum indicated they could cancel entire subscription (including SMX radio) and re-subscribed for SXM radio with credit from their cancelled subscription.
Serendipitously, my complimentary SXM Data subscription was expiring Feb 19, 2021. I was driving/using SXM Radio Feb 19th and received a screen notification that my subscription had been updated. It was followed by a DIS/Navigation update that took about ~5 minutes. Subsequent to this subscription update SiriusXM radio has been functioning without issue. Checking subscribed services in my car they were …
SXM Radio: Subscribed
SXM Data services
SMX Traffic: UNsubscribed
SXM Weather: UNsubcribed
SMX Stocks: Subscribed (odd because it’s part of SXM Travel Link subscription).
SMX Sports: UNsubscribed
SMX Fuel Prices: UNsubscribed
SMX Movie: UNsubscribed
SMX AGW: UNsubscribed (No idea WTF this is !?! )
Oddly, ~ Feb. 26, 2021 received a screen notification that my subscription had been updated yet again. Changes were …
SMX Traffic: Subscribed
SMX Stocks: Unsubscribed
Subsequent to this subscription update SiriusXM radio has continued to function without issue and was now getting traffic data/reports
