If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Sirius XM Malfunction

Schadenfreude is defined as feeling happy when something goes wrong for someone else.
no. I'm not happy that things go wrong for others. I'm happy that this is a shared problem and therefore not a defect in my electronics.

Same exact issue, that started about 3 weeks ago. Coincidentally, my 2016 Genesis ultimate was in the shop getting a drive shaft flutter fixed (ticking sound at 25-35 mph) and a driver seat that was moving while going around corners. Both had TSB's and both are now fixed, but after I picked up the car, the XM would hang on a station, then eventually even my NAV would hang. Have to turn the car completely off to get it to work, but then after a few minutes, it will hang.

Sounds like I will need to cancel my XM traffic services, although all I have is "mostly music" and weather/gas station information/movies theaters, etc. I am not a computer expert, but this sort of makes sense. Sirius XM is a one-way signal. Sat to you in a constant data stream. That means for local weather and gas station information, etc., your NAVSAT system must communicate in some way with the XM data stream and reconcile all of that data based on your position on the "map." (Does that make sense? I am guessing) If that data stream is not recognized, it will cause issues. It is probably why it starts to work, but then a cascade of errors occur, culminating in loss of NAV too.

Head unit SW will need an update, or XM will have to change its data stream to be compatible. Meantime, I will cancel the travel link options and keep the music only, and let you know how it works out for me. If my head unit is not looking for XM data for traffic, etc., maybe it will not lock up.

Cheers, friends.

I have a 2019 G80 Sport and about 3 weeks ago my car radio also started locking up after a few minutes of listening to SiriusXM. I took the advice of a previous post and tried only using FM radio and indeed the problem did not occur.

Based on a previous post I called SiriusXM to have the “Traffic & Travel link” disabled until Genesis squares this problem away. After 30 minutes and 2 service people at SiriusXM, I was informed that since my “Traffic & Travel Link” was paid for by Genesis for 3 years (part of the new car offering) if they disabled it they would not be able to turn it back on unless I paid for the subscription. They said I should get the dealership to issue the credit. For me it is not worth the hassle. I’ll wait a week or so and then try again to get Genesis to correct the issue.

I cancelled Sirius XM Travel Link on my 2015 Genesis Ultimate with jog dial and everything seems to be working normally now! I haven't taken a long trip yet, but I have high hopes that that is the problem.

Same problem here....now for 3 weeks with no fix

This documents the issue I was seeing with SiriusXM (SXM) radio in my 2018 G80 3.3T Sport w/ 9.2” Touchscreen navigation system. Subsequent to my SXM Travel Link services being removed Feb. 19, 2021 the issue is resolved in my vehicle.

Current/Short term fix:
Remove/unsubscribe from SXM Travel link services.

Long term fix (my speculation):
MapnSoft will issue a DIS/NAV update that addresses the issue. Per MapnSoft website “We usually release a new map update twice a year (in March and September) or once a year (in March).” MapnSoft only produces the map/navigation data. Hyundai/Genesis or Navigation manufacturer (LG) provides the software/firmware updates to MapnSoft for distribution.

Symptom:
After starting car I switch to/play SXM radio. 5 to 10 minutes later changing channel using screen, jog or steering wheel, screen shows channel changed, but audio remains on original SXM channel. Channels change to show "Acquiring Signal". I can switch to other sources (AM/FM, Media etc.) and sound/controls work. Attempting to switch back to XXM, sound goes away for 10 seconds, screen does not switch to SXM radio and it returns to original source (e.g. FM radio) and FM audio resumes. Stopping car for ~5 minutes w/ restart or pushing reset button in DIS/Navigation restores SMX radio channel change functionality, but issue re-occurred.

There have been reports of other issues (home screen freezing, analog clock malfunction, hair loss, incontin/impotence etc.), but I don’t believe these are related to this specific issue.

The issue started after installing v14.10 update around ~January 23, 2021. Based on current information this was coincidental and I do not believe the v14.10 updated caused the issue. I had done 4 updates previously with no issue. All updates were done using MapnSoft provided SD card. I never used the MapnSoft download to SD card method.

Root cause:
Issue appears to be related to SXM Travel link Infotainment service (weather, fuel prices, movie listings, sports scores and stocks). (IMO/Speculation) SXM made a satellite signal protocol change in January 2021 that our DIS/Navigation don't like. I hypothesize this revised satellite data stream is causing software crash in the DIS/navigation system (Android, based on my research).

I attempted the following to resolve the issue, but they did not work or only worked briefly.
- Re-ran NAV/DIS update. This did not resolve the issue.
- Reduced SXM presets to 6 from 18. Temporary/intermittent fix.
- Went to SiriusXM website and sent a Activation/signal refresh. This did not resolve the issue.
I did not attempt, but do not believe replacing DIS/NAV head unit, antenna or antenna cable will resolve this specific issue.

I logged a support ticket with MapnSoft early Feb 2021 and their initial response was take to dealer/contact manufacturer. A couple of days later they replied asking for further details. I had numerous e-mail exchanges for about 2 weeks. MapnSoft indicated it was related to SXM Data (Traffic and Travel Link) subscriptions and later narrowed it to SXM Travel Link subscription. MapnSoft indicated Hyundai/Genesis was aware of the problem and submitting requests to SXM to disable/Unsubscribe affected users from SXM Data services.

Feb 15, 2020 I contacted SMX and requested they cancel/UNSubcribe my SXM Data subscription. SXM indicated they could not. I speculate because SXM Data service was a car purchase/complimentary 3 year subscription. Others in this forum indicated they could cancel entire subscription (including SMX radio) and re-subscribed for SXM radio with credit from their cancelled subscription.

Serendipitously, my complimentary SXM Data subscription was expiring Feb 19, 2021. I was driving/using SXM Radio Feb 19th and received a screen notification that my subscription had been updated. It was followed by a DIS/Navigation update that took about ~5 minutes. Subsequent to this subscription update SiriusXM radio has been functioning without issue. Checking subscribed services in my car they were …
SXM Radio: Subscribed
SXM Data services
SMX Traffic: UNsubscribed
SXM Weather: UNsubcribed
SMX Stocks: Subscribed (odd because it’s part of SXM Travel Link subscription).
SMX Sports: UNsubscribed
SMX Fuel Prices: UNsubscribed
SMX Movie: UNsubscribed
SMX AGW: UNsubscribed (No idea WTF this is !?! )

Oddly, ~ Feb. 26, 2021 received a screen notification that my subscription had been updated yet again. Changes were …
SMX Traffic: Subscribed
SMX Stocks: Unsubscribed
Subsequent to this subscription update SiriusXM radio has continued to function without issue and was now getting traffic data/reports :) .

This sounds like the issue. I have just duplicated your process. Thank you.

Bought 2019 G80 3.3t on 12-21-20. Xm worked perfectly for about 6 weeks.

After a few minutes, xm will not allow channel change. I have to reset the system to get it to work, but the problem just recurs. Is there a fix?
I have the same problem...any resolution?

Is there a fix I am not seeing on this forum? Thanks
I guess these threads and posts are not clear enough?
Post #26 above pretty well explains it all.
Work around for now: Cancel travel link from Sirius XM.
Actual fix: They are working on it. They may or may not have one in the next software/map update release, possibly in April.

I'm having the same problems. Yesterday (3/5/2021) I was listening to the radio and the screen changed from the map screen to to the home screen. I could access al the different parts of the home screen except for the map screen.
This is the response from Genesis on a previous email I sent them: " We are aware that Most G80 owners are experiencing Sirius XM is intermittently freezing up. our engineer team is working actively to resolve this issue. In the meantime, SXM will deactivate Travel Link to temporarily resolve the concern. Once the issue is resolved, SXM will reactivate Travel Link back to you. You will be provided Goodwill with 3 months of Travel Link services."

Worse than everyone says. Very dangerous. Cannot use navigation., clear screen, use phone. Genesis and sirius do not respond. Cannot cancel travel link.

Issues here as well, this is very embarrassing. Passengers mock my expensive car because the sxm is stuck on the same channel.

Having same Sirius Radio problem with my 2017 G80 Ultimate. Called Genesis Customer Care who advised it is a known issue that Sirius is working on, with no known timeframe for resolution. Asked Customer Care rep to open a Genesis case for me, which he did. Even if it is a Sirius programming issue, Genesis should take the lead to resolve this for their customers. We were promised exceptional customer care when we purchased our luxury vehicles, and Genesis has been backing away from all their promised Concierge Care services. Great car, but serious corporate issues. The dealership I purchased my new Genesis from has stopped being a Genesis dealer. This happened to other dealerships in my area. I have to travel now to a dealer further away if I want my car serviced.

Deleting Sirius/XM Traffic/Info from my account worked (for now). I found it necessary to get a Refresh Signal though.

First, thanks to BillN for post #196 in another forum thread which alerted me to this fix. I also spoke with my Genesis Service department who were useless. Genesis is taking no ownership to help deal with this issue at all but that's for another time.

First I logged into the Geesis Mapcare (MapnSoft) account here: Genesis Mapcare | Customer Login

Then I had the following chat and got the problem resolved.

Me

My Genesis G80 Nav screen is hanging up and affexting XM radio selection, etc. I am told that the problem is with downloads of travelink info and that you can stop the downloads until the problem is fixed.

After the Bot couldn’t respond correctly I had an option to talk with an agent.

Talk to an agent

Our team member will connect with you shortly.

Oliver

Hello, this G80 is the 9.2" touchscreen correct?

Me

Yes

Oliver

Thank you, and you are correct that the Sirius XM Travel Link data is causing an issue with these vehicles. We are happy to help but we will need certain info to proceed.

We will need the vehicle VIN, a photo of the System Info page in the vehicle showing the Map version and also we need to see the SW version to make sure the data is recorded and reported correctly. Finally we will need the Sirius XM ID number so we can have the service disconnected from the vehicle.

Me

Sirius XM ID (I typed my ID)

VIN (I typed my VIN)

Oliver

Wonderful, the final thing that we would need is the photo showing the map and sw versions the vehicle is currently running.

Me

Can you give me a few minutes to get that for you?

Oliver

Absolutely

Me

Here (I attached a photo)

Are you able to read the info?

Oliver

Yes I am, thank you very much

Me

Perfect.

Oliver

One moment please.

OK, I can resolve this chat and create a ticket with our conversation and info. I can escalate this to have the service disabled and then can follow up with you once I receive a response. Was there anything else that I can assist with in the meantime?

Me

No Oliver, but I really appreciate the help.

Oliver

You are most welcome, I do hope you have a wonderful rest of your day Jeff. You should receive an email soon stating a ticket has been created. If you ever have any questions you can email me directly from the ticket, or call/chat is available as well.

Me

Thank you! Great service. And really appreciated. You have a great day too!

Same here. Cancelled travel link. I still have SXM mostly music, and no more issues.

Does anyone see a red circle icon with what looks like a rectangle and speaker (looks like a move camera facing right) that now appears on my dashboard since the map update? I have the head's up display, and the red circle (that looks like a TV camera facing right with a horizontal traffic light above it) now appears when the speed limit does not display. Is it just the map telling me that it has no speed limit or other data on that road? When I drive on a main road, it goes away and displays the speed limit sign, on my dash and on my windscreen.

Never saw it before.

I have a G80, 2019 Genesis and started having problems with the SiriusXM radio and data about 1 month ago. I contacted Genesis Customer Service and they are aware of the problem. They also suggested they disable the SiruisXM data travel link on the radio until they are able to fix this problem. They also said when a fix is completed, they would continue with the free subscription that was suspended. In the meantime, theSirius XM radio would work.

Same issue with my 2017 G80 3.8 in Canada.
XM lock up with Nav system lockup soon to follow.

Found if you do not use XM (Juke box or radio only) the nav system will not lock up.
Noticed that a 'Featured Favorites' selection appeared on XM menu recently which may be part of the problem.
When attempting to refresh the XM receiver online, system states that radio is not active.
Radio ID also disappears from time to time in XM radio status (renders only ---------)

My dealer in Edmonton has been silent on this issue since bringing it up 3 weeks ago.
