If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. SiriusXM is losing subscription when I turn the car off.

I've had my 3.8 ultimate for about 7 months with no issues. The other day I got in and started it and the Sirius XM channels said no subscription. I called Sirius and they said everything on the account was good and they sent a refresh signal. Everything came back to normal until I turned the car off. Now every time I start the car I have the same "no subscription" for any Sirius channels. It doesn't matter how long the car has been off. What appears to be a signal refresh has restored service a couple of times after a few minutes of driving but other times it will not come back without requesting a refresh signal. All other aspects of the system seem to be working fine. I tried using the small reset button on the head unit but it did nothing different than just a power-on reset. There has been no change in where I park or drive so the signal strength has been the same.

Anyone else experience anything like this?

This exact thing happened to me a few weeks ago. I park in my garage. When I pulled out the sirius signal did not appear and I got the subscription message. Drove all the way to work like that (9 miles). Turned car off then turned car on again and just sat there for 10 minutes. Signal finally connected with no further problems. For some reason Sirius cannot run its diagnostics when the car is moving. I've always been told that especially with the initial subscription. If you can start the car, out in the open, and idle for a few minutes and see if the problem goes away. Otherwise it might be a Sirius receiver issue.

Same thing just happened to me. I left the car at the dealer for a week while I was on vacation to replace the peeled suroof gasket and fix a headliner rattle. Sirius didn't work when I drove it home and now "forgets" it's subscription after you shut the car off. I've had Sirius refresh 4 times already and on every restart (regardless of how long the car has been running), Sirius tells me it has no subscription!! So back to Hyundai it goes!

BTW - Sunroof seal replacement was a crap job:

  • Doesn't appear to be uniformly sealed
  • There is now a gap at one corner and I saw water draining in when I washed it. When I opened the sunroof the next day, the wind deflector was wet - I've never seen that wet in the year I've owned this car!
  • Now the rear sunroof panel is making rattling/creaking noises that it never did before
  • The front sunroof panel is now rattling when tilted open
  • The first time I closed it (from fully slid open) after the "fix", It made a very loud, disconcerting "thump" noise!
  • The headiner rattle is still there - not fixed

Overall, I'm not at all pleased with the quality of Hyundai service - I have more problems now that I did when I brought it in and the issues they were supposed to fix are not fixed! Not feeling great about the support for my $50K Hyundai!

Thanks for your response. I am due for an oil change soon so I will have the dealer check it out. If either of you find the source of the problem, please post it here.

Something has definitely changed between this gen and the 1st generation. My XM will sometimes switch to channel 1 when I'm in the garage (almost exactly like it's losing its subscription or whatever), but it typically doesn't remain in that state. Once I pull out I can switch to my regularly scheduled channel 76. None of this ever happened with the first generation.

I spoke to a tech at SiriusXM in their customer advocacy group. He said about once a month they get a report of a radio consistently losing subscription. It is generally related to a hardware or software update being required. However, he also said this is the first report they have had for a Hyundai.

Aquineas....we have the same happen every time I start the car in the garage. XM wants to flip back to channel 1. While I get no reception in the garage nothing plays. As soon as I back out I switch the knob to my first preset and all is fine. Have had XM/Sirius for more than 10 years in Volvos and it never did this. Would always begin playing where it left off. Not a big deal at all to me just one of those odd things.

Same thing happening here on my 5.0 Ultimate. Have you found any resolution as of yet?

Thanks,

Todd

Re: SiriusXM is losing subscription when I turn the car off.

My 2009 and 2013 both revert to different stations when I turn off and back on. I even had radio on '13 replaced and it still happens......very aggravating. Luckily I don't lose subscription. For a car this price I expect better. The 2009 had the 14 speaker system and the 2013 has 17 speaker with DIS.

I had the same problem as the OP where I had a get a refresh signal from Sirius every time the car was turned off. I took it to the dealer and after they were able to replicate the problem they ordered a new radio/head unit which they said cost Hyundai $5200. I should get it the first week of August since Hyundai is not releasing it until July 29. The dealer said it was upgraded and hopefully the problem will not repeat.

Thanks for your reply. I am the OP and plan to take mine in for service in a couple of weeks. Very interesting news about the revised head unit. Hopefully, they have resolved the problems.

I posted this in a different forum and a few people are reporting a similar issue. One poster said his dealer is replacing the head unit with a new version that will be released at the end of July. Hopefully, the new version fixes the problem. I have not scheduled mine for service yet.

I am having the same problem as OP. Dealer is replacing the radio which he said costs $5,200.

Got the radio head unit replaced and now Sirius works fine. Only issue was mechanic left navi card in the old unit and I had to go back to the dealer the next day to get it back. They said it was the first time they replaced head unit on 2015 Genesis.

Thanks. Good to know that replacing the head unit fixes the problem.

I have an appointment at the dealer on Friday to see if I can get mine fixed. Hopefully, they will replace the head unit.

I took my car in for service today and had them check out the Sirius XM issue I reported here. They had a new radio in stock and replaced mine. Now the SiriusXM works great. They left the navi software card out of mine as well. They had already shipped my old radio for repair so they had to get a navi card out of one of the new cars on the lot.

I'm just noticing this now, but it seems like every time I shut off the car, SIRIUS jumps to the preview station. All of the presets and subscription options are still there, so I don't think it's the same issue. Anyone else notice this?
