  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Slight hesitation

I have about 2000 miles on my 4.6 Premium/Tech and am now wondering if I have a problem. I have noticed, I think, a slight hesitation from when I slightly step on the gas and when the car actually moves. It usually happens at a stop light or turn and is very, very subtle. Almost so subtle that I think I might be imagining it.

At first I attributed it to getting used to a new car. I also thought that I might be just being shy on the pedal because any extra force really started the car off to0 quickly and jerky.

It's really hard to explain but it feels like there's a very small dead zone on the pedal just where I want to gently move forward. I don't think it's a safety issue as it's not as if I can't just push harder and quickly move it's more a problem with a gently controlled drive.

Anyone else see this or has it been reported?

Thanks in advance.

All models of the Genesis are known for this even previous to the 8 speed. There's tons of threads on this, but basically the car has drive by wire (sucks) and lazy trannsmission programming for lack of better terms.

I read some of those and didn't think this was the same thing - I guess because the thing is always in first gear when it happens. It's more like it's just not injecting the gas for a moment. I can describe it, as and old gamer, like a dead zone around the center of a joy-stick or I guess in my case the accelerator pedal position sensor.

Anyway thanks for the response.

I can relate to your experience though....I have just gotten used to it over the years, so it's almost like it's not a problem for me anymore, but when I take my car out of storage next week, I'm sure I'll be snapping my neck back against the headrest for a few days.

I did not accept this issue. I had a cold start issue and the codes it threw resulted in a reflash of the ECU. Guess what-no hesitation and the car pulls from the get go. Check my post on my problem. I would force the dealer to do a reflash with the latest software. The difference in drivability was dramatic.

reflash = updating the software inside the engine computer (commonly called "ECU" or "ECM")

thanks for posting to this thread as I experienced the exact same thing on my brand new 2012 v-8 4.8L. From the cold start, it lags. I brought it to the dealer's attention last week (car is 6 weeks new and has 1500 miles on it), and they claimed it was normal. No way is this normal...it definitely lags when you begin to press on the accelerator. My 2010 v-6 did not do this and spent $5 grand more for the v-8 and should not do this. Thanks for alerting me to how to overcome this with the dealer!!

I've been playing with the manual transmission, if you can call it that, and I've noticed when I shift to manual at a stop there's no hesitation. I hate manual shifting though but it gets me through the stops. I am going to bring it to the attention of the dealer when it's time for my first service.

All of you are right and wrong, go in ask for the latest reflash. Which will cover ecm if that doesn't fix your issue request a new throttle body. If they say they can't ask for the Hyundai customer service number. They will fix your car when the crap rolls down hill from Hyundai corp. I know its happened to me on a 2010 sonata with 92000 miles and only 3 verifiable oil changes. Hyundai gave her a new motor.

I've only have my car a couple of weeks, so I guess it's possible it has the latest. Is there any way of knowing weather or not you have the latest version before going through the trouble of taking it into the dealer?

I don't know how accurate it is but I was told that the cars aren't flashed up to the latest versions upon delivery.

Now after driving my car for a few days to get accustomed to it again....I do not have any delays in accelleration. Maybe I'm just used to the car and know where to have the throttle position upon starting up after slowing down or being stopped??

Call your service dept. Give them your vin# and they can look up your super screen to see if you have any open campaigns for ecm/trans reflashes. Or you can call or text me ur vin# 803-565-4889 during the day and i'll look for you
