  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I was driving on a deserted road yesterday so figured i'd do some 0-60 runs in my 2010 4.6.

First run i had esc on, from a dead start and just floored it in automatic. i looked down and was shocked to see 8.3 seconds come up. so figuring i timed wrong or messed up something i went again

this time i did a rolling start at about 5 mph, esc off and full auto mode. this time i managed a 7.6

not knowing what to think, i did a third one. this time with esc on, rolling start, and in manual mode. still was at 7.8

Granted my measuring with an iPhone stop watch isn't the most accurate, but this is absurd! where is my power? I'm worried the engine is misfiring, but no lights are on. on a good note i was getting 33 mpg highway, but i'm really questioning what could be wrong here

any ideas?

You really drive a 3.8?

The problem is you are 22. It will pass.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
CP - stands for car performance - is an iPhone app that might be more accurate than your iPhone. With those times, did you say yours was the new V4?? You couda had a V8!! Sorry, that was cruel! ;)

What grade of gas did you have in your car? Premium will produce better performance. The advertised performance numbers are based on the use of premium fuel.

Vehicular Hypochondria

A severe mental disability in which sufferers chronically experience acute anxiety attacks related to the welfare of their vehicles. A typical vehicular hypochondriac may face bouts of depression and paranoia stemming from the false belief that his/her car is malfunctioning when it is in fact operating in perfect order.

Sane Human Being: Why are you giving away all of your earthly possessions and digging a large hole in the ground in front of a tombstone with your name on it?

Vehicular Hypochondriac: Well, my check engine light came on today. I'm going to die.

Phones' are usually far from accurate, which is why Motortrend and C&D etc. use tools designed for this test. Just because the phone's capable of this test, doesn't mean it's any good at it.

I had a G-tech meter years ago when I was 18. Purchased the tool through Summit Racing - this would be much better than your phone, plus they still sell them these days.

HA! I know what 5.5 seconds feels like and the 4.6 gets there, with no drama. I don't need an app for that.

33MPG on a 4.6 V8? WOW!!! This is equal or better than V6. Best I've got on my former 2011 Genesis 4.6 was 27 on hwy.
Anyway regarding your 0-60 times - iPhone is by far the worst method for this type of time measusrement. The expected accuracy should be in the range of tens of miliseconds so the time measurement posted here are completely off the chart.
I suggest you take your car to the nearest drag strip and post us on the results.

Come on man, these times are reached by professional drivers, in testing conditions. Just flooring it isn't going to give you the same times.

I would be willing to bet that a stock 4.6 liter Genny will not hit 5.5 secs from 0-60. I don't care what the hyundai stat sheet claims.

i just took my new 2012 4.6 on a highway tour of about 80 miles and got an avg. of 33.5 mpg. now overall driving it is around 23 because i like to put my foot down at the lights.

i wouldnt bet against it, i had a 06 dodge daytona with all the performance add ons and it did 13.4 in the quarter and to tell you the truth this car doesnt seem that far behind. it is a different type of car the dodge was more muscle but this car is pretty quick

From MT:

In fact, with 0-to-60 and quarter-mile runs of 5.5 seconds and 14.0 at 103.7 mph, respectively, the Genesis is quicker than most of the vehicles within its competitive and image sets, including the Infiniti M45, the Lexus GS 460, and the Hemi-fied 300C.

BTW if you do a google search you will find a few other car magazines claiming the same time 0-60 mph.

you drive a 3.8 so how would you know what a 4.6 will do 385hp will get you there.

OH SNAP! burrrrnnnnnnnn :D

A month ago, I posted here some video of my 2010 4.6 (17,000miles) 0-60 tests. I was able to easliy repete 0-60 times of 5.5-5.6 just by stomping the gas from a dead stop.

I am not a pro driver.

A couple notes about my tests:

Temp was 55F (Temp makes a big difference - hotter is bad)
Road was almost perfect (new pavement, flat road)
I'm east Coast, so I can get 93 octane gas (it does make a difference)
1/2 tank of gas, just me in car, nothing in trunk (weight is bad for 0-60)

So, my conditions were "ideal".

With the ESC button off (not fuse pulled), and a little break torque, I was able to easily spin the tires all the way through 1st gear (again, I posted the video of that)

I still plan to head to drag strip in the next month or two and post my results.

Just one thought........where you going in a straight line? If you where at all turning during the test (like an off ramp), the ESC will hit the brakes in the car and crush any 0-60 runs. This can also happen on a very un-even road where one wheel is higher then the other.

I'll take that bet........and I have the video to prove it.

Go to the thread in this forum called "0-60 times" from about 1 month ago and you'll see what im talking about.
