  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Small vibration in seats during idle

I have the same issue, and was also told it's "normal". I have owned a lot of different cars in my 30 years of driving, this was never "normal" on any other vehicle (some of them were manuals though).

Disappointing for a supposed "luxury" vehicle, but my whole experience with the Genesis so far has been dismal. I'll get my car back tomorrow (supposedly) after over 30 days at the dealership due to the steering wheel vibration issue that others here have reported on. My initial rental car was a Chevy Cruze base model, after some arguing I managed to get an "upgrade" to a base model Hyundai Sonata, which is better than a Cruze but far from a full-size "luxury" car.

I'm pretty sure this was my first and last Hyundai or Genesis product - the experience in the first 12 months of ownership was worse than my Chrysler 300, and nowhere near my previous Audi A8 and A6 experiences, which is what Hyundai/Genesis claim they are aiming for. Audi leases are crazy expensive, so they are off my list, but the lower price of the Genesis lease is frankly not worth the hassle, especially when I pay for a Genesis Ultimate and drive a Chevy Cruze and Hyundai Sonata base model for several weeks.

No response from Hyundai customer service to my request to look into this issue for me, after an initial call to confirm some details. Total silence. Luxury car experience my a$$ ...

I understand...they know its problem but basically told me last week they had not experienced this from others. I told them about multiple forums where people have the same experience. I have had the Regional Service Manager trying to fix mine HIMSELF but he finally said it was just how the car operates (Characteristic of the car). That is when I started up the ladder and talked to lawyer. I left Caddy for this and it is not something a car of this class should be doing. I expect them to confirm today when they call be back what they told me last week that they had done all they can. This will be when I call the lawyer back. Customer Service told me to give them names of people who also have this issue but I have none. I was hoping to get some backing when I joined this forum.

This is a serious issue and needs to be treated as such.

Feel free to send me a private message - I have that same issue, and no solution. If it's simply a question of finding a group of people who have the same compaint/issue, I'm happy to provide my name to get Hyundai to work on a solution.

Yes it would be very helpful to get them involved . If you and anyone else that needs their car repaired for the same reason will send me a message I will provide you with the info and message traffic I am having with them. The other day they offered me some reward points to go away. I said no way and then they offered me employee discount off MSRP and told me to g in a build me a 2017 but the link they sent would not let me do a Genesis....but I have stuck to fixing or replacing. I have told them I am going public on the 1st. That means Dallas TV news and let my wife go on Facebook and Twitter. I just hate some major company brushing off an issue like this. I need names to help fight them. In my emails you will get my case manager that says they know of no other people with this issue. Please send me your info ASAP

Please send me your email address

I will send it in a PM, but you have personal messages turned off in your user account options.

I have the same issue. Painful to get in my 2006 Sonata v6 and experience "more luxury" stopped at a light. I live in Houston, so the AC is always running.

I believe it's a badly designed or executed hydraulic motor mount in conjunction with a low idle speed. I was holding out for a TSB, but I don't think they will do anything about it.

I recently purchased a Hyundai CPO 2015 Genesis 3.8 AWD with Signature and Tech package. I have noticed a vibration in the steering column and entire car when it is idle and in drive gear. The AC has no effect on it so I'm not sure if it's the same vibration upu discussed but in researching it I came across your post and wanted to respond. I will gladly add my name and email to your list as I have discovered this vibration is not occurring with other people I know who also own one.

@ jschellinger.
I would like to send you my email address, but you the forum gives me this error:

I do not know how to turn that feature on so a little help would be appreciated?
My email is jschellinger1@msn.com and here is where I stand. The Customer service rep has told me this has gone to regional level and they say it is characteristic of the car and they will carry it no farther. He (Elmo Odums) is also telling me they know of no other people with the same issue but then if no one else has mentioned it how do they know its a characteristic of the car. No car of this class should have this characteristic. They are hoping I and now we,will go away but I will not. They tried to stop this for 8 months on my car alone before taking the stance they are taking. They are a large company and do not care about us individually and there will not be a TSB unless everyone starts complaining. My case # is 9729151 (so tell them the number) and because I will not take trinkets for my issues they are trying to close my ticket. If they do I just call back. I just want them to idle the car up ~ 150 rpm more and this will stop or get me in another car without this issue . It is a design flaw.If you steering wheel vibrates and they pass it off this way what will they pass off next. They can pay millions for Superbowl ads but not fix an issue with our cars. Please send me you name and please go on their CS page - NationalCA@hmausa.com <NationalCA@hmausa.com>and send them a message. I am ready to send this issue to the four TV stations in Dallas area for them to investigate as well as Facebook ( I do not have account but wife does). I need your help as well as you need mine. Please write me ....jschellinger1@msn.com Sorry this is long winded but I am mad!

Please be advised that I will send them an email regarding the issue. i believe it's a design flaw in the motor mounts (which are probably hydraulic). Increasing the idle speed will mitigate the problem somewhat, but won't eliminate the noise and vibration. One owner has mentioned a clunk or thump on startup--I experience that also.

On only one occasion, while idling in park with the AC off, I experienced the "no engine" luxury mark in this car. I've owned several Asian cars with V-6 engines--all of them were butter-smooth. When idling, it was impossible to tell that the engine was running unless you looked at the tach. With 80k miles, my 2006 V6 Sonata is far more refined. My Camry was ridiculous--it was like there was no engine.

I must admit I was not watching my P's and Q's like I should have when I test drove the car or else I would have noticed the noise and vibration at low engine speeds and the crappy brake pedal.

Thanks for starting this thread. I started a thread here about the bad brake pedal ergonomics a while back--I got no traction with Hyundai on the ergonomics, though they did fix the problem with excessive pedal travel during a panic stop.

I am going to test drive a G80 when I go to the dealer for service and find out if these things have been fixed. If they have been fixed, they have no excuse not to fix them in the 2015-16 Genesis sedans.

They are SO close to making a truly great car.

Seejay - sorry to hear of your continuing issue. I can say that I have no vibration at idle. I did a test this morning after pulling in my parking garage at work.

1. Engine at idle, in Park. - No discernible vibration in the seats or steering wheel.
2. Engine at idle, in Drive with foot on brake . - No significant vibration in the seats or steering wheel. You can tell that the engine is running when holding the steering wheel, but I would not characterize this as objectionable in any way.
I estimate Idle RPM at 600-650 RPM based on the tach.

Have you been able to test this in other G2s?

Yes, every one I have test driven (I tested quite a few when I had the brake pedal issue), some worse than mine. In Houston, the AC is always going at a good clip. It was the absence of it in the winter and occasionally driving my old car that made me realize what was up. It really is one of those "power of suggestion" things--something you don't notice until the absence of it makes it obvious, or someone whose opinion you value mentions it.

I made sure the A/C compressor was running. Still no more vibration than any other car I've owned. I do recall reading that somebody had an issue with motor mounts. IIRC, replacement of the mounts solved it for that person.

I recently purchased a 2016 3.8 AWD Ultimate demo with 1,500 miles on it. I have a vibration coming through the steering wheel while idling. When I turn off the ac it stops. I've driven 4 cylinders that idle more smoothly. Anyone have any updates to this apparent design flaw on a $53,000 car? (Of course I didn't pay $53,000 lol)

Yes, I was a bit disappointed in myself that I did not catch this during my test drive.
The cam timing is so hot to get 300 hp out of 3.8 litres, that during idle, the engine will shake somewhat, and then shake even more when a heavy load is put on the crank. The design issue seems to be that the motor mounts used (probably hydraulic) are not up to the task.
I have been told it has been fixed in the 2018 G80, but I have not test driven one to verify.

my 15 3.8 had some vibration during idle (more when a/c is on) and could feel a bump for a second when starting engine. took it to the dealer and they said weak engine mounts and it was replaced under warranty and that fixed both issues.

I will give that a try, thank you.

Definitely worth a shot! This car overall is too nice to put up with an issue like that. It seems to be a complaint that shows up for some users, but I can tell you that I've not encountered the problem after driving 4 or 5 samples of Genesis. Let us know how you make out.

Interesting the mounts might fix it. Mine will sometimes idle a bit rough and a different '15 v6 I test drove back when I bought mine did it too.

I did notice no vibration at all in the '18 3.3t sport I drove, so maybe they did indeed fix it.

I have the AC vibration at idle, goes away when you bump up the idle or turn off the AC. June 2015 build on a 2016 G2
