If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Is there any way to turn this bloody thing off?I have read and reread the manual, and the dealer can't tell me
Newbie 3 day owner, too old for this electronic stuff I guess at 72

I have an '09, so I'm having a hard time understanding your question.
Did you mean the ACC(Active Cruise Control) is engaged all the time?
Or is it that you can't make the ACC act like a normal cruise control?

Dan

In the 2010 manual its referred to as "Smart cruise control", but yes, I cannot make it act like a regular cruise control. There are 3 settings to choose from, 85, 130, 180 ft.When you get to one of these preset points it shuts off. Just the thing for passing on two lane roads!

I'm confused by your description. The smart cruise control keeps your speed at the set speed just like a normal cruise control. However, if your speed is faster than a car ahead, it will reduce your speed to keep you from colliding with the leading car. Is it your desire to allow your cruise control to rear-end a car you are following? You can't tell it to do that.

It doesn't shut off when you get to the set distance, it just reduces your speed to hold that distance. If the car ahead accelerates or moves out of your lane, your car will accelerate back to the set speed. If the car you're following slows down, your car slows down to maintain the distance. While tracking a car that is ahead, there should be a car icon displayed over the 1-2-3 bar distance setting. When the lane is clear, you will see the 1-2-3 bar distance scane without a car icon.

When passing, just put your foot on the gas pedal and manually override the speed. When you release your foot pressure, the cruise control will resume holding the speed you have it set on.

Don't worry about your age. I've met plenty of people in their 20's and 30's that are just as closed minded!:D

I'm not close minded, just stupid!

Stuz88, I haven't found a way to completely turn it off either. I will say that initially, I felt as you do, but now that I've gotten used to it, and I've grown to like it.

stuz88, how about I yank out my regular cruise control system out of my car and switch it with yours for ya? :D

It is off until you turn it on by pressing the button on the steering wheel. What exactly do you mean by "completely turn it off"? What are you trying to accomplish?

Well what I think he was asking is, how do you turn off the "adaptive" portion of the cruise control, and this was something that I too wondered when I first took delivery of my car (I've since changed my tune).

Unfortunately I jumped into print too soon, thinking the cruise was turning off when it was merely slowing down to match speeds. Now I realize how it works, I'm fine with it. Guess I should "look before I leap" (donning sackcloth and ashes).

"Set" light - Smart Cruise control

I just bought a 2010 Genesis with smart cruise. My salesman told me that the "set" light would come on in yellow next to the word "cruise" (which is green). This does not happen when I engage the cruise control with the "set" button. Any thoughts? Is this supposed to happen?

You got the wrong info....there is no set light .....green light goes on and you can feel when it engages

MATT Z - thanks. I thought this might be the case. I think what the salesman should have told me was the "adaptive bars will appear in the center window above the steering wheel when the cruise is engaged" - this really is the only visable way to see the cruise has engasged after you push the "set" button.

He's right! I forgot about the bars .........you can set the distance from the vehicle in front of you with the bars ...the speed mph will actually display

Has anyone pressed and held the RES + button for more than 1 second? The car is supposed to accelerate until the button is released, mine continues accelerating until I hit the brake. The SET - button does the same thing, will keep slowing until I brake or turn the cruise control off. Its definitely not right. The single press works correct up or down, and the Smart Cruise Control works properly. I'll have to take it back in again, the original ESC module failed on delivery, resulting in the cruise not working, now the new unit seems to malfunction.

Right. You'll see just the bar(s) if there's no car close enough in front of you. If you come up on a car, you'll see the vehicle icon, although in my experience the vehicle icon shows up a bit before the ACC actually slows you down. Another thing I noticed, if you override the cruise by pressing the gas, the "set speed" display (under the bars/icon) will flash for the duration of the override.

For the most part I like ACC. The only mild annoyance is that on 2-lane highways where passing means going into the opposing lane, the ACC pulls up well back of the slower vehicle, and you can't really pass from there so you have to override the cruise to get closer in preparation for passing.

I will say the Genesis ACC is not quite as smooth as the ACC in my wife's Volvo XC60. The Volvo slows more gradually as you come up on a slower vehicle, where the Genesis brakes later/harder. I've also noticed the Genesis braking on downhills where I didn't think it was necessary and coasting would have been sufficient. (Keep in mind I'm in SE Texas, so when I say "hill" I'm talking about little stuff like freeway overpasses).

Let's say you are set to 50 mph. This is indicated in the center of your instrument cluster as the digits 50. Tapping it once brings the new speed set up to 51 and naturally the car accelerates to accomodate the new speed. On the other hand, if you would have tapped it 5 times it would have been set to 55. Here's your problem, holding it for more than 1 second will cause it to increase 10 fold as in jumping from 50 to 60, keep holding and it will jump to 70 etc. According to the way you say it is supposed to work, it sounds like you inadvertently set it to 10 or 20 or more miles per hour over what you were initially set at so naturally it feels like it is accelerating until you apply the brakes. The + button is not an accelerate button, it is a speed set increase button and also serves as a resume to speed button if you needed to slow down using the brakes.

But every other cruise system I have ever had does not do endless acceleration unless you continue to hold the resume button down. Resume on other systems typically does 2 functions, first brings you back to your originally set speed, second if held down will accelerate the car to whatever speed you desire and releasing the buttons et the new cruise speed. The Genesis system is not the same. Not clever.

I don't have ACC but are you saying what Vega said to be true? That seems crazy... Just like you said, when you press and hold the cruise on a 2009 it stops when you've reached your desired speed.

I don't like the idea of pressing and holding it for like 5 seconds while going 55MPH to 75MPH.
