  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Smart cruise

To all:
PLEASE read the OM on the SCC. It specifically warns not to trust it in rain, on hill or curves, or for stopped traffic. Yes, my experience is also that it DOES work in those situations, perfectly in fact. But those cautions are reason enough to act before the car does.
Don't mean to sound like the old man lecturing you, but all of us can get lulled into a false sense of complacency.
Happy New Year!

To the other replies, yes the car did stop. Do I use this method every time, not on your life. As I said in the post my yesterday,I only tried it because it had been done by other owners to see how it worked. I believe that one of the owners, put up boxes instead of a car as his way of seeing how it works. Your caution is well taken. At the tender age of 65 and driving a $50,000 car I don't take unnessary chances!!!!

Happy New Year to all members:)

I have this feature and can't believe how well it works on my 3.8

I just finished a round trip of 100 miles and on the highway and on country roads. I had one car slow dramatically and the SCC did in fact apply the brakes and slow before I reacted.

One thing to watch is set the speed by the digital read out on the center console and not the Speedometer . The digital read out is much faster than the speedometer reacting so you can quickly find yourself at 100 mph with out intending to. So my car was still accelerating after I had let go of the accelerate button. It spooked me until I figured out what happened.

One of my favorite features:)

Hmm.... so if it uses Radar, then what is the Laser in the vehicle front window area for? The safety data on the laser is listed in the owners manual, but it doesn't state what the laser is actually USED for... Thoughts?

The laser looking thing in the front window is actually an infrared refraction detector for detecting raindrops on the window for the automatic windsheid wipers.

So are there 2 systems dedicated to this function ?

You can set the distance to just one bar and then use it in most cases like old tech cruise control. BTW we love the smart cruise and use it everyday in Atlanta GA traffic and it works flawlessly.

Funny thing. I was just driving back from Atlanta to Virginia last week (in a rental car) and was ticked that I had to cancel CC so many times because of people pulling out in front of me outside the greater ATL area. I thought, "Wouldn't it be great to have smart cruise control". This week I was shopping for a new Genesis and found out about this feature. Can't wait to pick up my new car next week.

Anybody else noticed that the brake lights of the small icon of the car in the center display come on when you are using the smart cruise and approach a slower moving vehicle. Does this mean the main brake lights are coming on as well?

Yes, I think that is the indication that the brake lights are on, though I have never seen that indication on my car. I'm wondering if it's something only done on cars with the newer color display or if I'm too busy looking at the car in front of me to notice.

Yes, that was an addition for 2012. But the actual brake lights come on even in older cars.

For the most part I like the smart cruise. I can move with rush hour traffic from 70 mph down to 9 mph and never touch the gas or brake.

There are several roads it doesn't work well on. The northern section of the WV Turnpike is twisty and fun to drive. I typically have the cruise set at 80 in the truck and other cars. The Genesis thinks that is too fast for some of the curves and cuts back to around 60 and on a few corners all the wall back to 55. I have to override and push the accelerator or I'll really screw up the traffic flow.
