  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

As I had posted in an earlier thread, my 2015 5.0 was in a wreck and totaled. I have just purchased it's replacement. It is a 2015 5.0 black with beige interior. I had a smart key for the old car which I asked the dealer to reprogram for the new car. They said that it cannot be reprogrammed and that I have to get a new smart key.

Does anyone here have knowledge about that? I would rather not spend the money to buy another one if this can be reprogrammed.
Thanks for any input.

I really cannot see how it is not programmable again. I really think they just cannot be bothered with it since there is little money in it for them. Unfortunately real service today is rather poor almost every where you go. Money talks.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Should of worked it into the deal of your new car. It can be done they are just to ungrateful. The only problem is they likely cannot cut the old key as it is already cut for your old car. But, programming should be simple, you can have three Fobs programmed to the same car. They should be able to clone your old FOB to the new car. There is a specific procedure which they use.

It may be that the Genesis will only recognize a max of two smart keys.

That's not it. I have a third key fob being made. Dealership will make as many as you want as long as your willing to pay for it. Luckily the dealership is covering my cost for this one.

The OP's dealership is just being lazy.

A max of three keys are allowed per the manual.

From the manual:

Loss of a smart key
A maximum of three Smart Keys
including Card Type Smart Keys can
be registered to a single vehicle. If
you happen to lose your smart key, it
is recommended that you should
immediately take the vehicle and
remaining keys to your authorized
HYUNDAI dealer or tow the vehicle,
if necessary.

Just to make things clear. Yes a maximum of 3 keys can be operational at any given time however if I were to loose those 3 keys I can always have up to 3 more reprogrammed to start my car. There is no way a key fob can be programmed once only and then your done. That would be like saying if the Hyundai dealer programmed it wrong the first time he would need to chuck it and get another to program. Makes no sense at all.

That is my thinking. I bought the new car at a different dealership. They took the smart key and my key fob back to service and came back to me saying they couldn't get it to reprogram. I wanted this dealer because they are the most convenient to me for service but I hope they will be better on other matters.

I called the dealership where I bought my first car and who programmed the first smart key for me. They said they had never tried but if I bring the smart key to them they would give it a try. I will probably go there next week. They have a great service department, but the dealership is more difficult to get to.

As one side note, they were not able to cut the manual key part the first time I had it done. They said that the key was too thin for the laser to cut into (once it is set up the laser wouldn't reach it far enough to make the necessary cut). I compared it to the key in the fob and it is much thinner. Was anyone else able to get the key portion of the smart card cut?
