  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Nothing special....just had it tinted with Formula One Pinnacle ceramic tint....

Looks real nice. My 2012 is about 9 months old. Too late for tinting? Did you have the dealewr do it? Can you share a ball park figure on what it cost? What darkness should I get that won't get me stopped by the cops?

I had an authorized Formula One dealer do it. The lifetime warranty works anywhere in the U.S.

The tint darkness would be dictated by your state, as they are all different.

For ceramic tint (known for better heat rejection, not interfering with GPS, keyfob transmission, and FM reception quality) cost me $350. You can get plenty cheaper via dyed or metallic film, but the dyed film tends to fade after time, and metallic reportedly interferes with electronics to a certain degree.

Thanks Philth. I'll see if i can find a place. All I've found so far that has great Yelp reviews is a place that uses only different types of 3m products.

Just looked for Cali tint laws. Unless it's not current, 70% visibility front, any darkness in rear.

Nothing special? Looks freaking great to me! I was really torn between the Titanium and Black... either one looks great in the '12s. :)

Congrats!

BTW I got the sputtered metal film, and after a month, not a single issue of bad reception on FM, XM or Nav. And definitely no TPMS issues. Cost me approx. $200 installed, with a lifetime warranty on it.

I got 35% all around.

If you live in the San Fernando Valley, I have a great place that I have been going to for years. Sunsheild off Van Nuys and the 101. PM me if you want more details...

Need guidance please. I was referred to a great tinter by a person who has done a number of cars there. He does 3M Crystalline or Color Stable? The Crystalline is $595 the Color Stable about $200. Any thought about that? And what shade shoudl I get? Doesn't say anything about percentages in the companrison tool below.

Thanks!

Honestly if you paid $595 for a tint job, that had better be for a couple of cars:D

When ceramic films were 1st introduced a typical sedan would run about $600, but ceramics aren't new anymore. I'd get a couple of quotes.

Thanks Scott. That did seem a little steep too. But then again maybe I'm paying for the skills of the installer i.e. no bubbles.

Huper Optic is considered one of, if not, the best tint films in the industry. Even that brand is around $400 - $450 installed. All films typically come with a lifetime guarantee, which includes protection from the film bubbling.

I have Crystalline tint on my car that Sunshield installed. The reason I got it is I have a coupe that I have a very light tint on, but the film is such that it will still work without being dark. Color stable is still excellent film and warrantied. The installer is more important than the film being used, as long as it's not budget autozone film. Ask Sunsheild about 3M Ceramic. It's in between Crystalline and Color Stable. Find out more here:

Be carefull on guarantee's. There is a film quality warranty and also an installation warranty backed by most installers. Some don't warranty their work at all.

Some films are 1 year warranty and some are lifetime warranty. I know as a tinter that if a customer doesn't have a problem in the 1st few months after installation, that they aren't going to, so I warranty for 1 year, but my film is lifetime warranty in terms of color stability and fading. Bubbling has absolutely nothing to do with the film, but rather the installer or contamination which is most common. This should be warrantied by the installer, but is not always. Marketing is a tinters friend - "Lifetime warranty", but they don't explain in the add the lifetime warranty is only for the film, not the installation.
