So I just had a jaw-dropping experience at the dealership...

So I dropped my car off at a dealership today, and I had TWO events that really left me confused. The first one was with a technician. I told him my driver's door window was leaking air into my cabin (pretty common one I searched this up on the forum) and asked if he could repair it. He then proceeds to open my door...put his knee on my bottom of the door so it won't move....puts both his hands on the top of the door's frame...and starts pulling and bending the door towards toe car.....is this normal? My eyes were literally like and I told him it's not the car frame, it's the window. I then took him for a test drive and he said he'll adjust the window.

EDIT: My apologies! Just googled this and it appears to be a valid way to fix car door leaks! I didn't know it would also work on the window. I stand corrected! Thank you Mgrig

Second experience was when I was speaking to the service advisers. As I was signing some papers, another customer walked to my car and started slapping the top of the trunk. I didn't say anything and I regret it now. Hopefully, he didn't have a ring or something on his hand. I have no idea why anyone would touch another person's car!

Just wanted to vent my frustration...Car has been great so far except for some sensor and transmission issues...

The window "adjustment" I have been doing for 25 plus years. I have a number of American Muscle cars and 52 cars over my lifetime, I was taught this trick years ago on a 70/71 Nova SS. It works like a charm as a minor adjustment. Just curious how old was the tech?

Welcome to Hyundai. That is why I am so disappointed in the Hyundai experience. I was looking to change cars just to get a better/different service experience. I cant stand the low end stuff they pull.

They refuse to fix my rear sunshade. They just keep trying to make it hold on

It was actually a random customer who hit my car with his hand, and not a Hyundai employee What I should've said to the man was "Do you mind if I slap your brand new Santa Fe?!". Wish I thought of that earlier. My blood still boils when I think of what happened...

What's wrong with your rear sunshade?

And my rear sunshade rattles over a bump. Its like it came lose on the drivers side and smacks the rear glass over bumps or when I have the windows down. They refuse to fix it properly and have just "bent the arm to put more pressure on the glass[sic]".

This "old school" fix goes back to the days when American cars were a lot more crappy than they are today. Cars often came from the factory with seam gaps, and hoods, trunks, and doors not fitting properly.
He probably should have waited until you weren't around before he did his fix.

Ooooh I understand now. Yes. Whenever I go into the service bay, I always smile and bow to the service advisors. I'd like to think if I treat them well, they will treat me well. I also stand far away from other cars and make sure I don't have any exposed metal that would scratch someone's car.

Is there a loose pivot joint on the rear sunshade? I'm gonna take a look when I go back to my car. I would HATE having to hear a rattle in my Genesis. I do get grinding sounds when coming to a stop, but I think it MIGHT have to do with the winter tires.

Most body shops have a length of 2x4, covered in carpet, that they use to bend doors to fit better.

Oh that's interesting! I got the car back, but the wind noise is still there. Not sure what to do now. The sheet they gave me says "Window adjusted" but this is the 2nd time they've adjusted the window. I'm not sure if I'll go back and ask them to fix it again. ..might post in the "problems and fixes" section to find some DIY fixes.

Close the door on a dollar bill. If the bill won't slide out, open the door and move the bill to a slightly different spot.....Repeat until you find a spot where the rubber seal isn't tight.....
You can also "eyeball" the door to see if there are any parts that stick out more than they should.

Ooh that's a good one! I'll have to try it on the window run channel. It seems like that's where the leak is coming from as I can "fix" it when I touch the window down butto n for a split second. Thanks, Bill!

That Dollar Bill test has been used for years also.
After I bought my first Cadillac there was wind noise and the Tech asked if I had a Dollar Bill.
I said, "Hey, this is a Cadillac, here is a Twenty".

Edit: I just tried this during my lunch break with a strip of plastic about half an inch in width, and both my front two windows failed to provide a tight grip. The back windows can grip onto it no problem. Maybe I need to have the window adjusted in relation to the motor?

I think this thread may be turning into a problems and fixes thread lol.

So, you're posting on a forum full of Hyundai (Genesis) owners and basically insulting all of us? A pretty classless act in and of itself... I'm just going to credit the source on this one with a #SMH.

I don't believe the gent was specific to genesis owners, most likely he was referring to folks purchasing models below the genesis. Also the fix for the window shade was appropriate just as long as it does not interfere with the mechanical functionality of the shade. Though as would be preferred a new shade would be the best option.

I should have posted its not everyone buying a Hyundai Elantra or Sante Fe but I have seen some interesting people along side the nice ones at my Hyundai Dealer. I don't beleive either of you guys are being thrown in the dung here
