  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2G Genesis Sedan (2015-2016)
Hi all
I have a 2015 nz new Genesis 3.8 as far as I know I can’t update the software in it, I’d love to add apple car play but can’t now load this from myhyundai because I’m in New Zealand and it does not recognise my VIN. I have seen several videos showing it can be done but these are all in the states. My models is not the ultimate but does have HUD and the almost double glazed
front windows ….. can the software be updated??

You might need to call Genesis/Hyundai support

Different than the US model since you have the HUD. What size screen, 8" or 9.2"?

I would think Hyundai customer support can help you, perhaps a different web site.

I've had a DH 2015 Ultimate 3.8 v6 for 7 years now. I love this car. Only 45k kms done. (28k miles) Would luv to get the Entertainment/Handsfree working with either Android Auto or Apple Car Play. It's a pity.car.webp

Looks familiar :) I use an AA dongle that works really well.
Thanks for the tip. What does it allow you to do with incoming calls and SMSs? I used to love the way Cortana on my 2016 windows 10 Mobile phone would read out my SMS messages and allow me to reply all by voice over the Genesis handsfree. Flawless. I've tried the same with Hey Googles... Sigh.

Texting Works fine with an iPhone with any additional hardware or software. Just hold down the talk button on the steering wheel. iphone will read your texts and reply or create a new text.

Just to confirm what I am after. It's for new Texts while driving, not for old notifications. When I receive a new text, google assistant, or Siri (if iPhone) will announce; "you have received a new text from Bob. Do you want to read it or ignore it?" If I reply "read" it will read out the text and then ask if I want to reply. If I say yes it will take my reply, repeat it back to me, asking if it is correct, allow me to redo if not correct, and then send it. Without me touching a screen or a button, or saying Hello Siri, or Hello Google. All through the hands free of the Genesis.

Hi
Just did a quick measure and it looks like the 9.2 screen NZ new so it will be Australia/NZ spec. Pretty sure it’s a tech package

Cheers

Go to And make sure you select your region from the top right menu and follow the instructions carefully.

Thanks,

Understood. I suggest you take a backup of your Genny's Memory Card and store it somewhere safe. Then try the same site with 2016 model. Try it at your own risk. It worked for me.

Good luck.

Hi Husam, Kia ora Kiwiger. I think the challenge is that you get different options with the software if you select the US vs if you select Aus or NZ, or EU. For example are two pics below from the model selection screen. One for Aus the other US. NZ & EU seems the same as Aus. Aus only allows you to update a 2021 G80. Whereas US allows you to go back to 2014. I'm guessing it's got something to do with the fact that in Aus and NZ they charge (a pretty penny) for Map updates out of Warranty. I wonder if you could update the head unit to US and then update the maps separately. I'd assume the map file would have to remain compatible with diff versions. But perhaps not.

My software version is DH.AUS.SOP.10.004. Map Ver is 2020.

Hello,

It's not possible to do a split update. In this case, and sadly, you'll have to do it at the dealership!

I think I might do a file compare between the files on a US Update SD Card and my current Australian one. Even if it gives me a Head Unit that has only US region Maps worse case is I go back to Hyundai and pay them to put it back the way it was. Will still cost me close to the Map update cost anyhow. But before I do that I'll call them and find out if I can even upgrade the Head Unit through the dealer. It will take a while 'cos i'm going on a driving holiday to Tasmania and don't want to screw the Navi before I go.

I did consider that myself and update the head unit with US software, if it meant you’d be left with US maps it’s a minor issue as you’d just use google maps and Bluetooth the directions ….

Yeah I've just had a bit of a "mans look" at the upgrade files. Downloaded both the Aus 2021 G80; just for the Map and reference Files, and the US 2015 G80 9.2inch update. Of course the file system layouts are totally different for each version. But I can replace the map files easily enough they default to a directory /Data/Nation/NA for North America and /Data/Nation/AUS for Aus. The problem is deciphering the Address Search and POI database There are also some other compressed images but they are encrypted!!!!. So more time needed. Funnily enough I found the config file where you change "Gas Stations" to "Petrol Stations". :)
Will do some more playing.

What I did notice with interest is that my original 2020 Update SD Card (The one they gave me for my last free service Upgrade) has NZ Map files included. So I think NZ and Aus are the same in the old 9.2 Navi Setup. If you want @Kiwiger I can shoot you a copy of it. It's a November 2020 Update so only 18months old.

@Gertsy that would be awesome if you could thank you 😁

I've just acquired a 2015 Ultimate and would be keen for those as well @Gertsy.

I even have the original sales brochure for Australia in my possession.
