  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Software update

Tbh unless Hyundai come up with a way to update 2015 models I fear we are stuck with the original os and software. Kinda disappointing that a premium brand is unable to be updated….. like buying a smart phone that cannot be updated ….🤬🤬

Name any other 7+ year old cars that are getting non-maintenance updates? How long should they spend money on adding features to cars that they sold over seven years ago? How much would you pay for such support?

I’d be happy to pay for an update that’s the issue there is none. I took it for a service and was willing to pay for it to be updated but was told it couldn’t be done.
Before this I had always owned BMW and even with older cars you can at least have the maps updated so many manufacturers do offer this at a price

Map updates are available for your car, twice a year!

Don’t seem to be available in NZ unfortunately… either that or the dealership is not that great

That could be true, updates are still available in the US.
You shouldn't be going to the dealer for this. MapNSoft provides the map updates. You can go to their website and check, or sign up on the Hyundai owner's website and get to the free map downloader there.

None of that is applicable for Aus/NZ. Our map updates are locked behind a dealer portal so only the dealership has access to them

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Interesting.... On the latest update, I don't see that folder nor do I see that file anywhere.

I've dug through pretty much every file (up to 20mg), using text or hex editors and have found nothing (that isn't machine code) that resembles a configuration file.

I would install the original firmware that came with the car but Hyundai nixed that option once you upgraded. I'd like to know the reasoning behind removing that option. Why? Thanks Hyundai.
6 months later.... Did you get anywhere? Would luv to have GPS turn by turn on the HUD.

I’m guessing the turn by turn was completely disabled for the au/nz market with no way to activate it.
I would assume you would need access to the actual control modules to modify this, if it was a BMW it’s simple with bimmercode (had coded my previous BMW’s with this) but alas nothing available for Genisis or indeed Hyundai that I am aware of

you need to activate Turn by turn to be shown in options as I remember

This option is tucked in settings but apparently that’s was disabled for the au/nz market speed is shown as well as lane departure lines but that’s all I can get

Have you tried the Navigation Updater available here: https://update.hyundai.com/NZ/EN/Main? The download menu in the updater includes an option for NZ, but I have not tried to download the NZ maps. I log in to the updater with my MyHyundai login, but I do not know what the NZ equivalent is. You may need a 32 GB flash drive (my 2015 Genesis came with a 16 GB flash drive) and possibly a USB drive to complete the update.

Concur with Kiwiger. Although the setting is there on mine it makes no difference if it is on or off. Additionally the Navigation updater (in Aust) is for the Hyundai GPS "Standard" version, and it is post 2018. The 2015 Genesis Ultimate has a specialised "premium" gps. The irony.

what is that dongle you using?
I'll see what I can do... Had it so long I dont remember - I think it was a "donation" at first for a new product.

So just a quick update on turn-by-turn navigation - it will never work for the AU/NZ Genesis models of our generation.

I pulled apart the map binary for the US and compared it to the AU one and they're completely different. The US one contains code that sends the turn-by-turn information over CAN to the HUD. The AU map binary does not. That's basically it. Even though our HUD can display the turn-by-turn info (by kicking it into service mode with GDS), it never receives anything from the maps program to display turns. And it's basically impossible (very very very difficult) to patch it in without trying to break both the program (patching in stuff is hard) and whatever verification checks they do.

Same with Apple Carplay / Android Auto. I think Suburbazine was testing the AA/AC firmware from the newer (2018+) model but couldn't get any sound to work. That same software wouldn't even boot on my AU model. I think something went wrong when they brought the car here as the code is littered with comments like `// For AU model, need to disable boot` with code missing or removed to get it to run here. No idea why.

Shame. Took it for a service at the Hyundai Stealership as they said they were going to update the headunit as well but never did. Apparently they don't know how 🤷‍♂️

The downside to buying the "premium" late model stock car systems is that they are very hard to update to newer technology or features.

On most older(pre-2010) premium audio systems, you could just swap in an aftermarket head unit with newer features and maybe use an aftermarket interface module to connect to the CANBUS system and stock amplifiers. Now, the premuim head-units are built-in to the dash with large fixed screens and the software features are next to impossible to change unless you can find an company that makes interface modules that tap into the audio control module. Unfortunately, not many(if at all) aftermarket companies make any interface units for the 2015 Genesis premium audio system.

Over the last decade; it seems that you are stuck with whatever premium audio system features and tech that you receive in your car and the automaker's ability(or desire) to keep it updated. Especially with the 2015 Genesis premium audio system.
