  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

. . . which I bought exactly one year ago, after going back and forth between it and a new Genesis. I think my heart was leaning toward the Hyundai, but my head kept getting in the way. The Mercedes just had to be the superior car.

Let me tell you. It isn't. While it has an admittedly beautiful interior, it's a tinny econobox in disguise. What I was looking for most - a solid car, that moved with quietude over whatever the road served up - turned out to be not at all what I purchased. It's light, it isn't quiet, and it just felt completely insubstantial.

And so, disgusted with my car (and with my seeming inability to make a sound decision), I traded it in a week ago on a 3.8 Genesis. And finally, I own the car the Mercedes was supposed to be.

Team genesis!

congrats. the gen2 taps into something the gen1 couldn't do, and that's desirability.

I had a c300 for a loaner for a few days. I agree with you, it is not what you would expect from Mercedes. Also, I hated the Ipad stuck on the dash look, it looks out of place. The Genesis is a solid well built car and also has a beautiful interior.

Welcome to the madness :)

Honestly - I am surprised to read a comparison of the C class to the G2 - as they are completely different ballparks. You would have had to step into an E class - at least an E350 to get on the same, level playing field as the G2. Of course the pricetag comes with that step up - and that is where the G2 wins the game. Same level sharp looks, similar powertrains and AWD option, same level stylish interior, same level interior & exterior build quality, fit & finish, same level (or better) toys/gadgets/features/amenities... at significantly less $ - even NewInBox MSRP.

The G2 is intended to go head-to-head with the E350 (or higher E), 535 (or higher 5), A6, GS350 (or higher GS) and the Q40/50s.

To be fair - I'd put a C class up against a current-gen Sonata Limited - and the Sonata would still come out as the better car - despite the price. Even if the price tags don't match - always gotta compare apples to apples... and once that is done - then you look at the price and buy the Hyundai :)

Just to further my earlier point...

I just did an online build of an E350 4Matic that matched my G2 3.8 AWD Ultimate in powertrain, features, amenities and accessories.

Final price was 76,417. A full 33,000 more than what my car was originally at MSRP.

That's another CAR in price difference. A decent car, too! And that pretty much answers that question. :)

:welcome: aboard the forum an congrats on your new ride. You won't be disappointed.

Hyundai has done the next to impossible with the completely redesigned 2015. For now Hyundai products are a steal however I am sure their prices will escalate as the rest of the world slowly catches on just like the Japanese cars did.

I just bought my daughter a 2016 Elantra GT limited a month ago. Holy crap, talk about a nice small car at an unbelievably low price, Loaded with everything even Navigation and panoramic roof, very impressed and so is she.

Of course, you are completely correct. The only thing truly comparable between them was price, which is why they were both on my shopping list.

I can't imagine selling a new car after a year, but that's not really relevant to this thread.

I find this to be a very interesting post, because I was dead set on getting the C-class until I happened to see a 2015 Genesis and couldn't identify it. Looking into it online, I realized I could get so much more for less money. I'm glad to hear that the Mercedes isn't that great, honestly, because I still had a bit of "what if" in the back of my mind.

I understand that Hyundai wants the Genesis to rival the E-class, and perhaps it does. However, that's not the way I (and many people) approach buying a car: Hmm, I want a big fancy car for 70k, oh wait I can get one for 40!

I was looking at cars in the 40k range, and the C-class looks really nice. Cool tail lights, front end looks nice. Great interior (in pictures, like the one attached...blows the Genesis out of the water, until you sit in it).

What I didn't like was that it was so small, and that to get the options I wanted most, like leather seats and a panoramic sunroof, put me well over my initial plan of 40k. Who wants to buy a cool expensive luxury car that is cramped and devoid of luxury items?

I have no interest in the automated driving stuff and live in the South, so the 2016 Genesis 3.8 RWD with the Signature Package has literally everything I could think of for about 43k MSRP. The idea that it is actually cheaper than the inferior C-class makes me feel like I'm beating the system.

Welcome! I'm not in position to bash Mercedes, but I do think the E-Class (and up) is where you start if you want the traditional Mercedes experience. I also believe all vehicles have trade-offs and areas that the engineers can improve on. The 2nd generation Genesis certainly isn't perfect by any means. It is however, pretty damned good, and an exceptional value. I love my Genesis and don't regret it one bit. Even with over 17K miles, it still feels like my one indulgence and my "secret" that other luxury car owners don't know about- yet.

The lease on my bimmer is up next March and I began scoping out "the next car" almost a year ago. For a long while the new C Class was number 1 on my wish list. Like like someone who posted above, a Genesis caught my eye one day. Researching soon began and the Genesis quickly hopscotched over the C. I'll just need to find one without the vibration issue when it's time to buy. There sure is a lot of "bang for the buck" with the Geni.

It will be easier to find one without the issue than with - based on stats here and elsewhere. If thats your only concern, odds are you got nothing to worry about.

What model are you coming out of? I can't tell from the pic. If it is a 3 series then the G2 will be a NICE step up. If a 5 then it will be on-par. If it is a 7 - then not so much - especially if it is loaded. That being said - if you want the style & lux of a 7 but in a smaller package - without having to pay for a 5... then the G2 is the answer. I spent a lot of time (~1 year) doing apples to apples comparisons between the 5 & 7 vs. the G2 before ultimately deciding on the G2.

Just find one with the tire recall performed (Michelin tires) and you are good to go.

is bimmer pronounced beamer?

Yes. And the motorcycles are spelled Beemer (or Beamer in more minor circles).

is bimmer pronounced beamer?

Google it under general bmw questions on bimmerfest.com and you will enter a flame war. Among BMW enthusiasts it is pretty much agreed that a BMW motorcycle is a beamer or beemer (another war there,) and BMWs with four wheels are bimmers. But that doesn't answer your question which is about pronunciation. Answers among BMW enthusiasts are divided on that. Some argue that in the German language bimmer is pronounced beamer, and that's how it should be pronounced. Really a German would pronounce it as a Bostonian would and say, "Beam-ah." For this group beamer and bimmer are pronounced the same.

Another group pronounces bimmer with a short "i," sound like in Jim or gym. This is how I pronounce it, but this pronunciation is not universal, and it is probably not pronounced this way by the majority.

ksoze, I started the poll thread about the vibration issue. With around 90 respondents to the poll, more than 25% have an unresolved vibration issue. I've test driven to different cars and both had a noticeable vibration problem that did not go away (which was supposed to go away as the tires warmed up after "flat spotting.") The first test drive lasted a bit over a half hour, the second test drive was for well over an hour. When I find one without a vibration next March, I think I will be very well pleased. This car is very nicely executed in just about every other way.
